NEW BOOK ADAPTATIONS
STEVEN ROWLEY'S GUNCLE
A number of books have sold rights for adaptation last week, so I'm updating you with that today, beginning with sinfully gorgeous best selling
author Steven Rowley whose latest novel THE GUNCLE will be adapted into a feature film by Lionsgate to be produced by Cruella's Kristin Burr. This delightful heart warming book was published only last week by Putnam, and revolves around a reclusive, once famous gay TV star who takes his young niece and nephew into his Palm Springs home after their mother dies suddenly, introducing them to his outsized life and unique wisdom and bringing about healing for all three. Rowley's other two books Lily and the Octopus and The Editor are also getting movie treatments over at Amazon and 20th Century Studios!

THE LOST APOTHECARY
Meanwhile,
Fox will create a period set TV series out of Sarah Penner's THE LOST
APOTHECARY! Set in the 18th century London, it is set in a secret
apothecary shop that caters to an unusual kind of clientele. Women
across the city whisper of a mysterious figure named Nella who sells
well disguised poisons to use against the oppressive men in their lives.
But the apothecary’s fate is jeopardized when her newest patron, a
precocious twelve year old, makes a fatal mistake, sparking a string of
consequences that echo through the centuries. Meanwhile in present day
London, aspiring historian Caroline Parcewell spends her tenth wedding
anniversary alone, running from her own demons. When she stumbles upon a
clue to the unsolved apothecary murders that haunted London two hundred
years ago, her life collides with the apothecary’s in a stunning twist
of fate and not everyone will survive. Imagine the uproar if the book
was about men killing their obnoxious and toxic wives with poison?
Fox will turn the book into hourlong series |
THE BROKEN EARTH SAGA
By N. K. Jemisin was already announced for adaptation before, but now Sony Tristar has given a 7 figure price for the rights on all three books The
Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate and The Stone Sky, which all won Hugo Awards. THE BROKEN EARTH is set in a harsh futuristic Earth on a continent called the Stillness, which endures seasonal apocalyptic events that shake the world and its inhabitants during these “seasons.” They hole up in communities and then rebuild. Key to that effort are “orogenes,” individuals who can draw incredible magical power from reservoirs of the Earth. They are trained for the task from childhood in brutal fashion, by a societal order called the Guardians. The orogenes kind of hold the world together and stave off eruptions, but they are treated badly.
Jemisin will write the scripts herself |
All three of those sound good. I would watch any of them.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your question on my blog. I actually gave a book a 1 star rating on Thursday. It's not often I don't like a book because I'm picky about what I read.
Oooh, I must visit that post with one star :)
DeleteIt's really annoying that I can't comment using firefox. Even with Edgy, I only see one google profile available...do you just allow blogger to comment? There used to be 3 choices.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that I can comment even though I'm also using Firefox. My blog allows everybody with Google account to comment, I haven't changed that, it has been like that for years. I used to allow anonymous too, but haven't for a year or so due to spammers. Does this happen to you on other blogs too?
DeleteTry to report the problem at Blogger's help forum, their administrators might know something more than we do. It is here: https://support.google.com/blogger/community?hl=en
Three very interesting and new books. Sounds good.
ReplyDeleteWe do love book adaptations!
DeleteDon't be silly, Dezzy. In today's climate, it's perfectly acceptable for women to kill off their husbands in books and film. If they are straight white men being killed, all the better! I have never understood why society thinks it's okay when women commit violent acts against men. I always told my girls that they better keep their hands to themselves, even if boys are taught not to hit women. If they do and a boy retaliates and hits them back, they freaking deserve it. I also hate those jokes about "daddy is going to be meeting his daughter's new boyfriend at the door with a shotgun." If I had a son and some whacko waved a gun at him just for showing up to pick said daughter up for a date, this mama would be on that porch faster than he knew what hit him shoving that gun right up his ass.
ReplyDeleteAs for Guncle, I had to look up the author to see this ridiculously gorgeous man. I hardly ever google an author to see what they look like, but glad I did here. He is a cutie with such a lovely smile.
Totally agree. I also hate when there are articles about a wife who cut her husband's willy off and all the emojis are smileys. Imagine if a husband cut his wife's tatas off.
DeleteIsn't Steve cutie? He actually retweeted us last night :) He has a lot of silly videos on his profile that he makes for his books, hilarious and cute.
How lovely he retweeted you! Gotta love those who stay humble and appreciate all of the press they get for their projects. Makes me want to read the book and see the film asap now!
DeleteI figure he liked that we called him smoking hot LOL I do like to flirt with them celebs :)
DeleteI'm with Theresa.. I'm off to look up the Guncle author so I can swoon along with you. All three look pretty good, although Guncle looks like it could be a bit depressing with the dead mother. As a mom, I'm more afraid of leaving my children behind than I am of the actual death.
ReplyDeleteThat's the parental predicament. Which is why I hate it when parents behave irresponsibly with their own lives. Once you have kids your life is no longer just yours.
DeleteGuncle is such a thing IRL, too! 🤷♂️ So, who do you think could play The Guncle? 🙂
ReplyDeleteObviously it has to be someone gay, so Chris Evans! But I have not read the book, so I do not know what type of gay he is.
