HISTORY CHANNEL ANNOUNCES EPIC NEW MINI TV SERIES
THE PLAGUE YEAR
Earlier this year I told you that History Channel will focus on making historical mini series instead of regular shows and now they've officially announced first two. THE PLAGUE YEAR, coming from Tudors and Vikings creator Michael Hirst is a portrait of 1665 London, during one of the all-time worst outbreaks of the Bubonic Plague. It’s the story of a society in
turmoil, struggling to adapt to a new set of rules, finding its footing during a time of fear, paranoia, and suspicion. As Londoners flee in droves, those who remain in the city, whether by choice or by fate, find their resolves tested and old wounds reopened, as they are faced with an impossible question: how do you keep going when everything around you has fallen to pieces?

Created by Ric Burns, explores one of America’s most iconic and tragic pioneer stories. Setting out for California in the Spring of 1846, James Reed, his family, and a hopeful wagon train of migrants were drawn by the promise
of a better life out west. Little did they know that their ill-fated expedition, doomed to be trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains for the winter, would face unimaginable hardships that brought out the best, and worst, in humanity. If you recall, History also said some of these mini series will be Ancient Rome set, so stay tuned.

A movie about the plague is all too relatable with current events. Can they skip that one and then do in 2025?? lol

DeleteI've seen BBC's holiday schedule today and it is filled with dark thrillers and a serial murderer series for Christmas and New Year's. Such cheerful programmes for the end of the doom year indeed LOL
Not really my kinda thing so, I won't be tuning in. The reality is enough of a sh*t show 😜

DeleteYou know, I much more prefer mini series lately over film, so it makes me happy they are shifting their focus in that direction. I have a really hard time making it through a film these days without falling asleep. Hell, it's hard enough making it through a 45 minute show sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThey saw that seasonal series do not work after the flop that was Knightfall so doing limited mini series is more convenient for them financially. BBC tried that two years ago with tons of three or four episode series and it did not really work for them as most of their minies were horrid, but it might work for History.
DeleteI've seen a lot of books about plagues come out. It must be a topic on everyone's mind so authors and moviemakers are capitalizing on it.
