NETFLIX'S MUNICH
GATHERS A STRONG CAST
Two war projects from Netflix today, starting with a rather strong cast for MUNICH which is currently shooting in Germany for a 2021 release. Jeremy Irons, our fave German star Jannis Niewohner, Robert Bathurst, Martin Kiefer, George McKay and Martin Wuttke as Adolf
Hitler are starring in the Christian Schwochow directed movie based on Robert Harris' novel. Set in 1938, as Europe stands on the brink of war, the film follows Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, who travel to Munich for an emergency conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the centre of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger.

THE ENDLESS TRENCH TO
REPRESENT SPAIN AT OSCARS
Spain has chosen sweeping war epic movie La Trinchera Infinita or THE ENDLESS TRENCH for foreign film Oscar race. The film opens in USA November 6. 1936. In a little and remote inland town of Andalusia, Higinio is
a tailor and a town councillor who has recently got married to Rosa. After the outbreak of Spanish Civil War by General Franco's coup d'etat, Higinio hides in his own house awaiting the right moment to escape with his wife but is caught in his attempt by his neighbour, Gonzalo, who blames Higinio for his brother's death and is looking for revenge him. Captured by Franco's soldiers, Higinio is driven along with other opposition prisoners to a nearby prison, but the unwitting distraction from one of the prisoners gives him a chance to escape and runs across the town to his house where he is to remain hidden in a secret bunker as long as the war lasts. In the meantime, Gonzalo pays his wife occasional visits in the belief that she knows his whereabouts, sometimes torturing her to extract a confession.

About time Netflix got something worth watching on its streaming service. I'll add both of these to my queue.
ReplyDeleteThey actually saved the year, if you ask me, cinemas and networks are dead, so streamers are the only ones offering something to watch these days. I find myself covering Netflix's programmes here more often and often.
DeleteIt’s a bad day to mention a civil war as I fear that’s a very real possibility here. That aside, these both look good. :)
