DeleteI would love to see this for Valentine’s Day, but I think my husband would rather watch paint dry. I’ve read all of Jane Austen’s novels. The films never compare, but maybe this will be the one!

DeleteEep! I'm afraid to ask, but what don't you like about Jane Austen? Her love stories may not be the most believable, but they are romantic.
DeleteWe used to dread reading her books in school When I had spinal surgery in 2010, my father gifted me with her whole collection. I read them all since I couldn't do much else, and enjoyed escaping to the foreign world she wrote about.
Frivolous, superficial, vain, repetitive, idiotic topics, snobbish especially for a century which saw so many people dying in poverty, slavery, from hunger and injustice, she chose to write only about frills, laces, balls, vain girls and other self-centred thrills. Her writing is a bit above the level of today's cheap weekend romance novels, but just a bit. It's just not a serious literature and should not be studied or viewed as such as it lowers the level of quality our kids should be taught at literature classes.
DeleteOk, that makes sense. It's like watching a soap opera from a different time period. Maybe that's why I found her books so entertaining.

ReplyDeleteWomen really should never forcefeed their poor husbands with Austen :) I remember when Sanditon was on, the ladies at their Facebook page were like horny teen girls who drool over Justin Bieber. It was rather appalling, especially as they kept cheering for the bad guy instead of the good one, it was disgustingly superficial.... It is the same type of vain ladies who support Outlander like groupie girls.
DeleteWomen do tend to fall for the bad guys, sadly. I stopped watching Outlander after season 2, or maybe it was 1/2 way through season 3. Though, I know it still has a pretty strong fan base.
