After The Railwayman with Colin Firth we are getting a new movie on the horrors of infamous railway in Burma during World War II! As 'Deadline' reports, director Justin Kurzel has boarded Freemantle's small screen adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s acclaimed novel THE NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP NORTH which has the story set against the backdrop of the horrific Burma Railway in 1943 and across the Pacific during World War II. The mini series will chart the cruelty of war, the tenuousness of life and the impossibility of love, as seen through the eyes of an Australian doctor and prisoner of war.

Speaking of war, check out the new poster for Sam Mendes directed WW1 epic 1917 which DreamWorks is currently pushing like crazy for the Oscar race.
It follows
Schofield (George MacKay) and Blake, two young British soldiers during the First World War, who are given a seemingly
impossible mission. With time against them, they must deliver a message, deep in enemy territory, that will stop their own men, and Blake's own brother, walking straight into a deadly trap. Shot to look like one long single take, the film also stars Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong and Colin Firth!

For some reason I never watch war movies or series. Do you reckon this is a good one?
ReplyDeleteI liked Journey's End last year with Sam Claflin, I'm a bit bitter that they did not notice or nominate that one for anything, but they will this one because it is from a major studio and influential director.

ReplyDeleteI bet he will! I do like George MacKey, he is one of those actors that star in everything, is always brilliant, but nobody remembers his name.
Delete1917 is something that I would definitely watch, although I'm sure it will make me cry a time or ten. How was the book The Narrow Road? I just finished a book and am looking for the next read.
