'BOYS' TV SERIES CASTS

Well, this is quite a cast, indeed! British Channel 4 has rounded up actors for their new five part series BOYS from Russell T. Davies. The series that charts the joy and heartbreak of four friends during a decade in which
everything changed including the rise of AIDs, will star Neil Patrick Harris, Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry, alongside Years and Years singer Olly Alexander, Shaun Dooley, Omari Douglas, Callum Scott Howells and Lydia West.

Boys follows the story of the 1980s, the story of AIDS, and the story
of three boys, Ritchie, (Olly Alexander), Roscoe and Colin, across the
decade. The young trio, strangers at first, leave home at 18 and head
off to London in 1981 with hope and ambition and joy. However, they’re
walking straight into a plague that most of the world ignores. Year by
year, episode by episode, their lives change, as the mystery of a new
virus starts as a rumour, then a threat,
then a terror, and then
something that binds them together in the fight. It’s the story of their
friends, lovers and families too, especially Jill, the girl who loves
them and helps them, and galvanises them in the battles to come.
Together they will endure the horror of the epidemic, the pain of
rejection and the prejudices that gay men faced throughout the decade.

Sometimes I feel like every show follows a similar plot. This finally looks like something different!! Although it centers around something that my trigger my health anxiety..

DeleteI will definitely tune into Boys. I remember how Ryan White was a huge deal here in the 80's. Even though I was just a little girl, my heart broke for him and the treatment he received from everyone. I followed his story all the way to his death. I am so glad we're more educated now, and while we still have a long way to go in acceptance of those who do have the virus and towards the LGBTQ community, this new generation and hopefully future generations will squash all of the bullshit ideas that our grandparents and parents tried to pass down to us.
ReplyDeleteI our country we still have nurses and doctors who are afraid of HIV positive patients. And LGBTQ rights are mediaeval even though our prime ministress is a lesbian (albeit an evil one).
