PREMIUM SPOTLIGHT ON TOLKIEN BIOPIC ON THE AUTHOR OF LEGENDARY LORD OF THE RINGS SAGA WITH NICHOLAS HOULT, LILY COLLINS, DEREK JACOBI

'TOLKIEN' EPIC BIOPIC
DEPICTS A LIFE OF LOVE, COURAGE AND FELLOWSHIP
Hoult previously played J.D. Salinger as well
A few months ago director Francis Lee found himself in a sort of a pickle when the family of famous fossil hunter Mary Anning refused to give any support to his film Ammonite in which she is played by Kate Winslet as the film portrays her as a lesbian and there are no real records or evidence that she ever was lesbian. Something similar is happening now to another biopic - TOLKIEN on the famous author of legendary Lord of the Rings saga. His family has also decided not to endorse the movie and hasn't been a part of

its production in any way. But then again, they did not give support to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies either, but they did back the upcoming Amazon's TV series on the famous saga (for which they did get about $250 million for the rights - deservedly if I might say so). It seems that Fox movie studios did not even try to involve the family in the movie which depicts the early years in the extra ordinary life of J.R.R. Tolkien which influenced his later writing. His son Christopher Tolkien said that the commercialization of his father's work has reduced the aesthetic and philosophical impact of the creation to nothing! With or without the family's support, Dome Karukoski's movie in which Nicholas Hoult

plays famous story teller is ready to hit theatres around the world next month.

THE STORY OF TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the "fellowship" apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels. The movie also sees Lily Collins playing his wife, with Derek Jacobi, Patrick Gibson, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle also in the cast.

  1. I'm looking forward to this movie a lot!

  2. It goes without saying that family should be contacted and consulted before filming and even during filming, if the directors and everyone involved want a smooth production.

The trailer and the leading actors in Tolkien are lovely!

    1. Yes, but, sadly, it is an American way to think that everything that is public (meaning also public persons) belongs to everyone. I don't know if you heard that recently legendary Olivia de Havilland sued a producer of a TV show about the feud between Bette Davies and Joan Fontaine in which Olivia was shown as someone who played a part in their feud even though she claims she never was and that she always maintained a spotless career far away from tabloids and Hollywood hoopla. Producers think they have the right on portraying her life anyway they want, obviously, and even the fact that Olivia is now 102 years old did not stop them in blemishing her spotless image. She took them to court of course. Imagine being 102 old, a Hollywood legend, and having now to deal with modern uncaught Hollywood brats with no respect, dignity and decency.

    2. Thanks for the story. Didn't know about Olivia's sueing a producer.
102 old! Wow! Kudos to her!

  3. Why can't I have interesting family members? I'd be okay with selling the rights to their story for a mere 250 million as well.

    1. She's older than century :) And looking much better than Kirk Douglas who is about her age, methinks.

    2. Amazon is spending half a billion bucks on LOTR series, not this movie, but half of it goes for rights to Tolkien's family :)

    1. Peter has nothing to do with this one :) nor with the TV series! Probably thankfully, as he really eff the Hobbitses up. Mortal Engines too recently.

    2. Nothing? Absolutely nothing? Well, he'd still better listen after The Never Ending Hobbit.
