  1. Jane Austen's books are widely read and loved. Regarding Emma, my memory needs a bit of brushing up. I understand she's trying to play matchmaker for her friends. It would be interesting to note the difference between past matchmaking and the modern dating.

    1. Yes, and I've never understood why they're so read and loved... I've always considered her writing an utter trash and base snobbery.

    2. Trash?!?!
We may or may not like a book, but I believe nobody's work (which sometimes takes years to get finished) deserves to be called trash, certainly not that of Jane Austen.

    3. It is trash if significance is given to something that only deals with superficial aspects of human life, not to mention the level of mediocrity of her plots, characters etc. And mind you, I say it as a professor of English literature. The fact that Western culture would call the likes of her a writer of classics and put her next to Dickens, Tolstoy, Dostoyevski, Hugo... just shows the superficiality of their criteria. Her writing is not much different from today's cheapest daytime soap operas on TV. And that IS trash, which might be fun sometimes, but it is still trash.

  2. Sounds like she would be the modern day Match.com robot. I've heard too many bad matchmaking stories to ever let anyone, real or robot, try to set me up. If I can't find him myself, I guess I just don't need him.

    1. I don't like the actor who is playing him, way too present lately in series with not much charisma
