Toronto Film Festival is just around the corner, so we're period set and international today, people, starting with the first photos from German and French language historical drama ANGELO set in early 18th century when an African slave boy is chosen by a European Comtesse to be baptized and educated. I probably won't watch 'Angelo'. I despise colonialism. I don't like people treating others like toys, taking them away from their homeland, playing God by trying to educate, convert, integrate people of a different race without giving any thought of what awaits these people in the future. (Society does not and will not accept the other, it only looks like acceptance). In fact, nothing good awaits both parties in the long run. The racial conflcts in USA, or the conflicts in Canada with the 'first nations' - are unsolvable. All we see is cosmetics and sweeping conflicts under the carpet.
Colonialism is the nastiest thing ever, just another word for fascism, because how else would the West cover up its fascistic murderous past then with some vague sounding word? Just look at how they celebrate their queen Victoria who enslaved how of the world and killed God knows how many people around their colonies (or slave camps as they'd better be called).

DeleteAlthough I intensely dislike the way Africans were treated during Colonialism, the movie sounds good, and seems like one worth seeing.
