'FIVE FACES OF MARIA'
HEROIC RUSSIAN WOMEN OF WW1
Maria Bochkareva in WWI
In the light of the Armistice Day which was last weekend, here are a few war projects coming up in the future all of them speaking of the bravery of Slavic people in times of great turmoil! 'Deadline' reports that Francis Lawrence will direct FIVE FACES OF MARIA for Universal Pictures which tells the true story of Maria Bochkareva, a Russian soldier who overcame poverty and abuse to fight alongside male soldiers in Word War I. After rising through the ranks and displaying stringent discipline and unwavering support for the motherland, Maria formed and led the heroic

'THE FORGOTTEN 500'
ON HEROISM OF SERBIAN VILLAGERS IN WORLD WAR II
Based on Gregory Freeman's book
Another example of the heroic sacrifice of Slavic people during great
wars will be seen in THE FORGOTTEN 500 based on a Gregory Freeman book
about brave Serbian villagers who risked their lives to save American
pilots from the Nazis. Young American airmen, eager to join the war and
fight the Germans, took part in often deadly trips from Italy to bomb
German oil fields in Romania. They found themselves parachuting out of
crippled planes and into the arms of Yugoslav villagers who, despite
being surrounded by the Germans, risked their own lives to help the
downed airmen in the fight against the Nazis. With crucial fighter
support from the Tuskegee Airmen, American cargo planes descended into
Nazi territory for the greatest secret rescue mission of World War II.

yes, militaristic superheroes to teach kids they should join the terrorist army :( The vigilante seed of revenge is the worst one you can plant in your kid :(
I'm not usually a fan of war themed movies, but when they encompass the human spirit and a selflessness that crosses political/national boundaries, I'm good to give it a go. I've heard about the Women’s Battalion of Death before. Super scary stuff there. When a woman goes on the war path, beware. ;)

I certainly wouldn't want to be on the bad end of the stick with Maria. She sounded like one bad ass lady.
ReplyDeletesuch a glorious hero! We had women who led army in Serbia too in WWI, some of them even became generals, their stories are so filmic!
DeleteHopefully we'll see more films about these women.
Deletethe best of stories are usually not seen on film because films are done in Hollywood and Hollywood usually does only American heroes.
DeleteAnd that's why Hollywood puts out mostly shit these days.
