THE FIRST TRAILER FOR 'THE NEMANYICHS: BIRTH OF A KINGDOM' EPIC TV SERIES ON SERBIAN MEDIAEVAL DYNASTY IS HERE! 'PRINCE RASTKO OF SERBIA' MEDIAEVAL DRAMA ALSO IN WORKS

'THE NEMANYICHS'
BIRTH OF A KINGDOM EPIC SERIES
It's a very slow beginning of the week, so we are going to stay in the middle ages, but after yesterday's Spanish 16th century, today we're heading further down in history all the way to the end of the 12th century when a kingdom was born at the Balkan Peninsula. Serbian national broadcaster has released a trailer for their biggest series ever THE NEMANYICHS: BIRTH OF A KINGDOM which will air in Serbia towards the end of the year marking the 800 years from the coronation of King Stefan the First Crowned that started the Golden Era of Serbian mediaeval state and the Nemanyich dynasty.

 RISE OF A DYNASTY
With more than 200 actors, 3000 extras and 300 locations) 12 part epic TV series THE NEMANYICHS: BIRTH OF A KINGDOM , filled with political drama, family wars, romance and turbulences, will follow the rise of The Nemanyichs, one of the most powerful mediaeval royal dynasties in Europe which ruled the vast Serbian Kingdom from the 12th to the 14th century. The first season will follow King Stefan the First Crowned (played by Voyin Chetkovich) and will cover 80 years of time. The series will also cover his marriages with Byzantine princess Eudokia Angelina, the niece of the Byzantine Emperor, and with Anna Dandolo, a granddaughter of the Venetian doge who gave him his heir King Stefan Urosh!

 DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
The royal house which produced 11 Serbian kings, despots and emperors, from 1166 till 1371, reached its zenith during the legendary reign of Dushan,       Tsar of all Serbs and Greeks, who ruled a massive empire occupying today's Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro and Albania. It was the most developed country and culture in Europe of that time. The mediaeval kingdom of Serbia fell apart with the Ottoman invasion and the lack of strong       heirs to the royal crown of Serbia which resulted with Serbia becoming a part of Turkish empire for long, and very bloody, 500 years.

'PRINCE RASTKO OF SERBIA'
ANOTHER PROJECT FROM THE ERA OF THE NEMANYICHS
It is interesting that at the same time the production is under way for another project on this era. This one will be a big screen movie PRINCE RASTKO OF SERBIA, which will depict the life of his youngest brother Rastko, who after establishing Serbian Church, became known as Saint Sava. Young Filip Hajdukovich plays the lead role in the film based on a Milovan Vitezovic book which depicts his teenage years at Serbian court and his later enlightenment and religious life. As the youngest prince of the Serbian dynasty he negotiated with the Pope and won the crown for the Serbian kingdom and his brother Stefan the First Crowned. He was a man of faith and as such he became a monk and worked on spreading Christianity and education throughout his brother's kingdom.

  1. Sweeping historical epics sure are popular these days, aren't they? They're overtaking superheroes!

    1. it is funny that these two are actually the first ones in many years in Serbia. Even though Serbian history is equivalent to the fantastic stories from Lord of the Rings which it often surpasses in so many ways, and has stories Hollywood would kill for, these projects are still very expensive and thus nobody makes them here. I mean we're barely surviving here, let alone having big bucks for movies

  2. These look fascinating. I'm always interested in stories based on historical figures, and the Middle Ages are quite fascinating.

    1. I don't like the acting in it, sadly, but they've chosen a lot of mediocre stars for it :( Some are pronouncing their lines as if acting in a high school play, especially the mediocre actress that plays queen Anna Dandolo (who got the role just because her husband plays the lead).

    1. Phillie, did you know that many of Serbian queens were French? One of our most beloved ones was an Anjou!
