After airing their lavish television series on
Sofia Paleologa last winter, Russian national broadcaster is now producing another massive mediaeval small screen project, this time on the inglorious
THE GOLDEN HORDE directed by
Timur Alpatov. This sixteen episode 13th century set historical saga should start airing in motherland Russia sometime later this year, I'm guessing Autumn or Winter and as you can see from the first photos from the sets it will be a parade of rich, pearl and jewel encrusted headpieces and

and beautiful Russian sarafans costumes! The cast is lead by gorgeous
Yulia Peresild, Aleksandr Ustyugov and
Sergei Puskepalis! The series, that took two and a half years to be written, is described as a mix of
Game of Thrones and
Magnificent Century!
YOUR HEART OR YOUR COUNTRY
The story is set at the end of the 13th century. when
Ancient Rus'
suffers under the yoke of the
Mongols and
Tatars.
Grand Prince Yaroslav
dreams of uniting the disparate Russian princedoms and throwing

hated yoke, but along this path he finds enemies in his own brother -
the disgraced
prince Boris, and the eldest son Vladimir.

DeleteThose headpieces truly are magnificent. I am not much of a hat wearer, but give me one of those and I'll walk around wearing it like I'm queen of the world!
ReplyDeleteyou'd be awfully hot, though, back in those days the weather wasn't this scorching as it is today, so they were more able to wear all those veils and scarves around their heads even during summer.

DeleteIt looks like a lot of work went into the sets and costumes. The trailer was all in Russian. At least on my computer it was.

DeleteThe number of sweeping historical films produced by Russia never fail to amaze me. I so admire what I've been able to see so far & hope to be able to see all of them (with English subtitles since I unfortunately do not either speak nor understand spoken Russian or any other foreign language. American culture does not encourage children to learn other languages from an early age, which would actually would be a a good thing.
ReplyDeleteit is true and also sad, especially since other cultures are so much more rich and enchanting, especially Slavic ones, and the Western world does not know about it since they force their kids to read only Dickens and their classic writers and Grim's fairy tales.

DeleteThe musics is very similar to the film score in "The Magnificent Century".
