I will not lie to you, my spylings! When it comes to epic programmes, the newly arrived year 2017 will not come even close to 2016 which was, honestly, probably the best year in history in the genre of period set series, bringing us such master pieces as were War and Peace, Medici: Masters of Florence, Versailles, Victoria, Poldark, Beowulf, Jericho, Indian Summers, Home Fires, Tutanhkamun, Doctor Thorne, Marco Polo, And Then There Were None.... There will be some costume drama, though: you saw the first teaser for Starz' White Princess two days ago, and today Hulu and ITV are presenting us with the first, positively scandalous, teaser for HARLOTS, their new period set mini series!

BROTHELS AND HARLOTS
To bring outrageous scandal, slutty delights and sin to the small screens from March 29th, HARLOTS, an eight part series, will have the cast lead by Samantha Morton, Lesley Manville and JessicaBrown Findlay!  Set against the backdrop of 18th century Georgian London, HARLOTS is a powerful family drama offering a brand new take on the city’s most valuable commercial activity - sex. Based on the stories of real women, the series follows Margaret Wells (SamanthaMorton) and her daughters, as she struggles to reconcile her roles as mother and brothel owner. When her business comes under attack from Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville), a rival  madam with a ruthless streak, Margaret will fight back, even if it means putting her family at risk. Brown Findlay will star as Charlotte, Margaret’s eldest daughter and the city’s most coveted courtesan who begins to grapple with her position in both society and her immediate family.
