HULU AND MGM PREPARING 'DAWN' PREHISTORIC EPIC ADVENTURE TV SERIES WITH FOLA EVANS AKINGBOLA, CARL SHAABAN, MATTHEW HOPKINSON!

'DAWN' EPIC SERIES
SET IN PREHISTORIC TIMES!
Earlier this year when Lifetime unfortunately decided to pull the plug on their long awaited pilot for CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR epic series adapted from the same novel series, I thought we wouldn't see anyone else trying their chance with a prehistoric drama, but I was, thankfully, wrong! As 'Deadline' reports Hulu has decided to venture into primordial history with DAWN series and they've already done the casting as well!

DAWN OF HUMANITY?
Set on an epic scale, DAWN follows a tribe of Neanderthals as they struggle to survive and hold on to their way of life after coming into contact with a family of Homo Sapiens. At the intersection of evolution and genocide, DAWN asks the fundamental question, what does it mean to be human?

THE CAST ALREADY SET!
To be run by Hank Steinberg (The Last Ship) and writen by Ken Nolan with Maleficent helmer Robert Stromberg directing the pilot, DAWN has assembled an international cast lead by Fola Evans Akingbola (Game of Thrones, as Pakalan), Temuera Morrison (as Wikkanak), Carl Shaaban (as Buzur), and Matthew Hopkinson (as Kamak)! To be produced by MGM, the series will start shooting tomorrow in Ireland where another of MGM's series VIKINGS is also produced.

  1. Beautiful pictures as always ;) And prehistoric seems like a make or break period to film...Seems hard, but I'd watch the first episode!

    1. After 10,000BC movie from ten years ago I thought there would be some TV series as well, but we waited for a very long time.

  4. I didn't realize Clan of the Cave Bears was a no-go now. I am sure someone will pick it up eventually.

Dawn does sound interesting, and you can't go wrong shooting in beautiful Ireland!

    1. It is, I'm not optimistic for the Bear Clan since it's been some time now since they let it go... even though the casting was done... I forgot what was the main reason... I think they didn't like the tone of the pilot, whether it was too blah or too violent for Lifetime, don't know....

  5. Hulu seems to be producing a good bit of their own work lately. I've just recently gotten hooked on Vikings and didn't realize it was filmed in Ireland.

    1. I stopped watching VIKINGS after the third episode when I realized they're glorifying the mediaeval Nazis and butchers. Most of the epic shows are shot either in Eire, Wales, Hungary or New Zealand. Parts of GOT are shot here in neighbouring Croatia and Dalmatia

  6. Sad about Bear Clan. That series has gone on a long time with a lot of followers. Seems like it would come with an automatic audience.

    1. yes, as I said in one of the comments above, I think the network didn't like how the pilot turned out, either it was too violent or to childish, one of those two :)

  7. I'm not sure that Lifetime was the best place to shop that series. Their movies seem to have a certain formula to them and prehistoric is not really on the menu. But then again maybe the pilot had issues.

    1. If I recall correctly the original series back in the days before we were born was campy too :)
