'TERROR' 19TH CENTURY
EPIC SERIES FROM RIDLEY SCOTT
Only some period set series for you today, people, starting with the report coming from 'Deadline' that AMC has ordered THE TERROR into ten episode series! Based on the bestselling novel by Dan Simmons it will air sometime in 2017! Ridley Scott will produce the series set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crews in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival. It is a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.

If you can't hardly wait for the second season of POLDARK to start at BBC this spring, here's something you can pass your time with: ITV will launch their new Julian Fellowes three part historical series DOCTOR THORNE this Sunday evening based on Anthony Throllope novel!

Tom Hollander (Rev, A Poet In New York, Pirates of the Caribbean) takes the role of Dr Thomas Thorne, who lives in the village of
Greshamsbury in Barsetshire with his young niece, Mary (Stefanie Martini),
a girl blessed with every gift except money. Mary Thorne 
has grown up
alongside the Gresham family, whose house, Greshamsbury Park, and status
dominate the county. With Francis Gresham Senior (Richard McCabe) having frittered away the family 
fortune, however, his wife, Lady Arabella Gresham, played by Rebecca Front (War and Peace, Humans, Lewis, The Thick of It), their 
daughters Augusta (Gwyneth Keyworth) and Beatrice (Nell Barlow), and their handsome brother Frank (Harry Richardson) face losing their home. Ian McShane also stars.

Tom Hollander is a great actor.

DeleteI read the book The Terror, which, while not my favorite book of his, could make a fun series, especially if Ridley Scott is involved.

DeleteDoctor Thorne might be good, although the story a bit typical for it's type. I don't know anything about The Terror and would follow your advice on that one.
ReplyDeleteWe has just gotten back from my mother in laws house darling. She is so sad and so lonely but we do know in time she will pull out of it. The Hubby and his sister are leaving Friday to spend three days with her.
Yep, Throllope is the most typical of all the mediocre Victorian writers, no wonder Fellowes lurvs him dearly :)
DeleteIt will take lots of time for mother in law to recover. Could she spent a few weeks with you and hubs and then a few weeks with his sister, not to be alone?
She's at that age where she wouldn't leave her own home. She would see herself as being a burden. My Aunt Bridey wouldn't do it after her husband passed either.
DeleteI know, but sometimes they must, and if she sees it as a possibility to help her kids by cooking sometimes for them in their homes or taking care of the kids or the house, she might accept it... that is if she wouldn't disturb your own privacy :) In my country our grannies and granpas almost always live with us like in Asia. It's a part of our culture and they usually help a lot because they take care of their grandkids, cook meals etc so the parents can work or do other things.

The Terror sounds gripping. I hate open water for the creatures lurking around. This would give me nightmares, I bet.
