Earlier last month I announced most of the sitcoms that have been
ordered into whole seasons by the major networks and now some of them
are in the process of recasting before the shooting starts. One of them,
NBC's PEOPLE ARE TALKING has just done it by putting gorgeous Vanessa
Lachey in the lead female role instead of Meaghan Rath. This might lead
to one of the most beautiful couples we've ever seen on TV since she
will play the wife of Mark Paul Gosselaar! PEOPLE ARE TALKING is an
unabashed comedy about two diverse couples — one played by Mark Paul
Gosselaar and Lachey and the other by Tone Bell and Bresha Webb — who
are neighbours and best friends.

Franco and Robert Pattinson in the sprawling epic story. The film had its premier at this year's Berlin Film Festival (where it received 
mostly negative reviews) and should hit European cinemas this Autumn although it still doesn't have a USA opening date.

Filmed in Morocco QUEEN OF THE DESERT is a historical biopic and a chronicle of Gertrude Bell's life, a traveller, writer, archaeologist,
explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at
the dawn of the twentieth century who is credited with helping to
catalyse the creation of the Middle East. Damian Lewis is Lt. Colonel
Charles Doughty Wylie, an unhappily married
British soldier who starts a turbulent affair with Bell between 1913
and 1915, before he was killed in active duty at Gallipoli.

That's a shame QUEEN OF THE DESERT received such negative reviews, since Gertrude Bell's has so much potential. Of course, as much as I could watch Nicole Kidman in anything, she does seem oddly cast here.
ReplyDeleteThey say the film was uncharacteristic for Herzog. Kidman is almost always miscast. She gets the best roles which would almost always fit better to some other actress

DeleteWhile I was watching the trailer...I wanted it to continue. Damian Lewis is just amazing in any role. So is Nicole Kidman.

DeleteNicole Kidman doesn't seem right for that roll. I can only think of her in seductive rolls like Eyes Wide Shut. Somehow, I do not think Gertrude Bell's life story would have that seductive edge, but then again she was having an affair...

ReplyDeleteI haven't either, but I usually catch up on Kidman's movies at some point. She has good movies and bad roles :) Pattinson... I just don't do....
DeleteI wasn't too keen on People Are Talking, but we do love Mark Paul, so I may give it a few episodes and see how it goes. I don't know much about Vanessa Lachey, other than her pretty face. We'll see if she's much of an actress in this new show.
ReplyDeleteshe is awfully cute, kinda like Nick is... they're such a loving and cute couple... it is always nice seeing their idyllic family pics ... you can just see that he found in her everything he didn't have with Jessica :)
DeleteI thought Nick and Jessica made a pretty couple too, but their personalities were just way off. Jessica seemed like a free spirit and Nick runs a tight ship, and kind of seemed like a jerk in some of those Newlywed episodes. I hear all the guys from his band had attitude problems. Not very welcoming to new music artists on the scene. But I agree. I think Nick and Vanessa seem like a lovely pair and wouldn't mind seeing more of them on the screen.

DeleteI know Jessica comes off as stupid, but honestly think it's all a public act. The girl can't be that stupid to build the empire she has. I'd act like I didn't have a clue too if it got me the fortune she has ;)

yes, I've read somewhere that the mark for the movie at Rotten Tomatoes is currently zero :) Not that we ever trust the Rotten fanboys over there....
DeleteEven when one of his films tank, Herzog is always interesting. He's got the most unusual vision of any director I've ever known of. He likes to keep the camera on an actor just beyond the point where it makes you uncomfortable before he'll change scenes.

DeleteI haven't seen a Warner Herzog movie in years. They're usually huge, glorious, sprawling messes. Sounds like "Queen of the Desert" is more of the same.

DeleteI'm sure men would say I was crazy for saying Vanessa Lachey is a lucky woman! I always thought Nick Lachey was handsome. He must have come along before I started seeing 20-something men as children!
