SNOW GIRL & THE DARK CRYSTAL
A MESMERIZING FAIRY TALE!
Something that will truly keep you captivated and mesmerized is almost mind blowingly stunning trailer for the magnificent Chinese epic fantasy fairy tale movie ZHOG KUI: SNOW GIRL AND THE DARK CRYSTAL which is currently earning big money in Chinese cinemas around their New Year's Holidays bringing some of the most luxurious and creative visuals, costumes and sets we've ever seen on the big screens! Gorgeous Li Bingbing plays a snow demon opposite Kun Chen’s Zhong Kui, a ghost who maintains order in the afterlife. He is legendary Chinese anti-hero, a young man endowed with mysterious powers who is forced into a battle among the realms of Heaven, Earth and Hell in the course of his attempt to save his countrymen and the woman he loves.

'DEADLINE GALLIPOLI' TRAILER
1ST CASUALTY OF WAR IS TRUTH
A week or two ago I introduced you to new Australian historical TV series GALLIPOLI on the famous World War One battle, but there is also another project being prepared on the same subject. DEADLINE GALLIPOLI has a much more star studded cast lead by Sam Worthington, Hugh Dancy, Charles Dance, Rachel Griffitths and Bryan Brown! To air Down Under this April in four episodes the four-part series explores the Gallipoli Campaign legend from the point of view of war correspondents who lived through the campaign and bore witness to the extraordinary events that unfolded on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915. These were the first truly embedded war correspondents whose defiance ignited a change in the campaign’s course and whose commitment to the stories of the men turned the war from a strategic failure into a triumph of the human spirit.

  2. I hear China is really motivated to make their own movies than for Western movies to dominate the silver screens. Same thing with cartoon characters too, which I hear they're having a tougher time with

    1. that goes for most of the freedom loving countries around the world. France, Russia, China, Serbia... always have domestic movies breaking records instead of the US ones.

  3. Following on what Adam said -- In Canada, we try to make our own movies too. It's not making them that's the issue -- it's distributing them. All the movie screens are owned by the American cinema chains and they give only minimal space to our own Canadian movies. So there's never any hope of making money off them and it discourages our domestic industry.

    1. it's different here, all cinemas are extremely happy to air domestic movies because they're the only ones that bring hundreds of thousands of people into the cinemas

  4. ZHOG KUI definitely looks interesting - very visual, but a simple story at its heart.

American movie houses/industry are such pigs.

  10. I doubt I'll see the Chinese movie, so I'll just enjoy its beauty here. I thought of you last weekend when we went to the movies. I'd see a movie trailer and think, "I haven't seen that on Dezmond's blog yet!"

    1. those Asian movies do get US distribution sometime later in the year.
Yep, you haven't seen a movie trailer here if it is too bloodthirsty, action, superhero or offensive :)

  11. The 'Deadline Gallipoli' looks interesting but even with Worthington people here are a bit jaded with yet another movie on it, particularly of the made-for-TV variety, no matter how accurate the portrayal. We're just going through one at the moment which is (in my opinion) brilliantly done but the combination of viewer boredom with war movies plus the relentless ads that pollute anything worth watching on free-to-air TV combine to make it a complete ratings flop. Which is a real pity as its worth watching as we commemorate the centenary of Australia's 'baptism of fire' as a nation at Gallipoli. Still, the presence of Worthington may pull a few bored hausefraus with 'Deadline'... (as will Rachel Griffiths for me! ;-)

Dancy would be the one pulling me to watch it in my case :)

    1. I've always thought that Asian movies are so much ahead of any of the American ones, not just in visuals but also in depth and emotions.
