JANUARY 2015 MOVIES: 'THE LOFT' WITH KARL URBAN, JAMES MARSDEN, WENTWORTH MILLER, 'BLACK SEA' WITH JUDE LAW, ASIAN EPIC 'TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN', 'STRANGE MAGIC' ANIMATED EPIC

 'THE LOFT' CAUSES PARANOIA
IN KARL URBAN, JAMES MARSDEN AND WENTWORTH MILLER
Today I'm reminding you of four films that are coming to cinemas this month, starting with THE LOFT which opens January 23rd with a hunky cast lead by Karl Urban, Wentworth Miller and James Marsden in the story of five married guys who conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city, a place where they can carry out hidden affairs and indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in THE LOFT, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Paranoia seizes them as everyone begins to suspect one another. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller. Matthias Schoenaerts and Rhona Mitra also star.

 'BLACK SEA' HIDES
SECRETS FOR JUDE LAW
Coming out the same date is Jude Law's BLACK SEA suspenseful adventure thriller directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald, centring on a rogue submarine captain (two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law) who pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumoured to be lost in the depths of the BLACK SEA. As greed and desperation take control onboard their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival.

ADVENTURE AWAITS IN
 TAKING OF THE TIGER MOUNTAIN
Suspense will also be seen this January in THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN Chinese epic directed by legendary Tsui Hark! This magnificent 3D epic has the story based on Qu Bo's novel which describes a true event from Chinese history focusing on a communist soldier who went deep undercover amongst a gang of remote bandits in order to take them down from within. The cast includes Zhang Hangyu, Han Geng, Lin Gengxin and Tong Liya. Check out the extremely captivating and mindblowingly stunning trailer below showing the enchanting wintery setting of the movie! The novel has also been turned into a  very popular Beijing opera!

 GEORGE LUCAS UNLEASHES
SOME 'STRANGE MAGIC'
If you're for something more relaxing and fun, animated adventure STRANGE MAGIC written by George Lucas will also open in the last week of the month!  Popular songs from the past six decades  help tell the tale of a colourful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.

    1. it's always a scary month, they often release horrors in January too as if the usual rise of the prices in the first month of the year and the horror of spending all the money at holidays isn't enough :)

    2. Listened to Leona Lewis' song, "Run". Such a beautiful song, and her voice is like a symphony. Thanks.

    3. she is amazing! She left her old label which didn't treat her right and is preparing a new album with a new label.

  2. Happy New Year :)

By the way, The Loft is the remake of a Belgian movie by the same name and the same director. Matthias Schoenaerts stars in it as well. I only saw the original one so far, but I heard they are very much alike.

  3. Happy New Year, Dezz! I hope 2015 will be an awesome year for you!

"Black Sea" looks intriguing. I'm quite confident that I've already figured out who the killer is in "The Loft."

    1. Thanks, Debs, wishing the same to you!
Who, who, who? :) I'm guessing one of their wives....

    2. Yup, me too. Or a conspiracy of all their wives.

    3. that could be possible too!

  4. I'll definitely be putting THE LOFT on my list. And it's got the lovely Karl Urban ... need I say more :)

And although the very talented Jude Law is in BLACK SEA I probably won't watch that one. Don't do films with submarines ... yikes. Gives me the creeps.

TAKING OF THE TIGER MOUNTAIN also looks extraordinary well done, however, I don't particularly enjoy subtitles. Shame.

And STRANGE MAGIC - well, that's right up my alley! Looks an absolute delight :)

    1. Karl is my all time obsession! Boo and hiss on Fox for cancelling ALMOST HUMAN just when I got used to seeing Karl every week :(
What? You don't like subtitles? Well, imagine us outside USA - all of the films and series here are subtitled.

    2. Yes, and I sympathise enormously!

    3. over in my neighbouring Hungary they synchronise everything with voice overs which is so weird and horrible. I do prefer subtitles

  5. Considering The Loft has the hunky (you got it right, Dez!) Wentworth Miller and it is also the name of my favorite clothing store....I will definitely be watching it. Happy new year!! Xo

    1. tis true, although, maybe their wives weren't angels either :) Methinks, I'd forgive all three of them if they were cheating on me LOL

    2. Methinks divorce should be front and center instead of shelling out marital money for a high rise apartment to commit sins against the wife. Don't care how hot they are. They all deserve a little Lorena Bobbitt treatment! ;)

    3. Pfft... who says it was marital money :) And what if their wives didn't give them what they needed or were neglecting them or molesting them or whatever... Some people are stuck in unhappy marriages and have the need to vent off somewhere. Not that I'd ever do it...

  12. "Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder..." so basically, it's like in real life? Now let's see... the second movie: "greed and desperation..." Oh darn. Movie #3: poor little horse... Damn that tiger! Now I'm really in for something more relaxing and fun. I choose movie #4. Just one question, though: who says everyone deserves to be loved? Lucas...
