DISNEY'S 'PETE'S DRAGON'

We've mentioned our most beloved Karl Urban just days ago as the possible AQUAMAN villain, and now Disney has snatched the Kiwi actor for a role in their remake of PETE'S DRAGON! He will join Wes Bentley, Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard in the film in which newcomer Oakes Fegley plays little Pete whose best friend happens to be a dragon with whom he lives in a forest after his parents died in a car accident. Robert Redford will be playing a local resident who tells tales of dragons that no one in town believes, and Bryce might play his daughter! Oona Laurence will play the daughter of a mill owner, while the other characters will include a forest ranger who finds young Pete, the mill owner and his greedy brother. Karl Urban could possibly play the mill owner?

'HOW TO BE SINGLE' ROMCOM

In the news from the romantic front, upcoming new ensemble romantic comedy HOW TO BE SINGLE is rounding up its stellar cast! Dan Stevens, Dakota Johnson, Leslie Man, Alison Brie and Rebel Wilson are the first names in the cast! According to 'Deadline', spanning a multi-year period, the film (based on Liz Tuccillo novel) suggests it is not our relationships, but our single times in between, that truly define us. The film will give an honest portrayal of both the female and male views of singlehood. Additionally, the film will look at relateable issues such as; online dating, the debate about how long to wait before having children, when to get married, blind dating, casual sex and the fear of commitment.

Talk about a dream duo! According to latest news we could soon see a rather stunning pairing, both visually and talentwise, of Kate Winslet and Michael Fassbender on the big screen! Michael Fassbender will take the lead role in STEVE JOBS biopic to be directed by Danny Boyle. Seth Rogen will appear as Steve Wozniak, while Kate Winslet will portray former Macintosh marketing boss Joanna Hoffman! Jeff Daniels will appear in the film as former Apple CEO John Sculley! The production is already underway in San Francisco. 

FASSY GOES 'SLOW WEST'
Speaking of Michael Fassbender, his latest movie SLOW WEST has been sold both in US and Canada. Set at the end of the 19th century, the movie follows the story of 16-year-old Jay Cavendish (Cody Smit McPhee) as he journeys across the American frontier in search of the woman he loves. He is joined by Silas (Michael Fassbender), a mysterious traveller, and hotly pursued along the way by an outlaw named Payne (Ben Mendelsohn).

Fresh rumours from Hollywood today say that two of the huge future projects have put their eyes on possible lead stars. Young Liam Hemsworth has allegedly received an offer from 20th Century Fox to lead INDEPEN- DENCE DAY II which will again be helmed by Roland Emmerich with the premiere date set for June 2016 which is exactly twenty years after the original! Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Randy Quaid are all expected to return to their original roles! Michael B. Jordan might also join the cast!

Meanwhile, over at Disney, they apparently want GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY star Chris Pratt to take over INDIANA JONES adventure franchise from Harrison Ford! He has already taken over another of their adventure series JURASSIC WORLD! The revival of Indiana Jones saga isn't expected before Disney launches their leading STAR WARS project. Frank Darabont was previously working on a possible new scenario.

'VIRTUOSO' HISTORICAL SERIES

When it comes to today's television headlines, not only that the news say we are getting another historical TV series, but also the first one in recent years on classical musicians. As 'Deadline' reports, HBO has ordered a pilot episode of Elton John produced musical drama VIRTUOSO with the story set in the 18th century! With the production scheduled to begin this May in Hungarian capital Budapest, the story of the hour-long period drama will go on in 18th century Vienna, revolving around a class of young musicians attending the prestigious Academy of Musical Excellence. To be written by TRUE BLOOD's Alan Ball who will also direct and produce, VIRTUOSO already has the cast chosen: Peter Macdissi will play the lead, composer and teacher Antonio Salieri, who runs the musical conservatory. Iva Babic will play Leonid, a Russian cello prodigy. Francois Civil will play Isidoro, a Spanish guitar and flute prodigy. Lindsay Farris is Heinrich, an Austrian piano prodigy, our dear THE VILLAGE star Nico Mirallegro is Franz, an Austrian self-taught violin prodigy. Alex Lawther is Battista, an Italian castrato prodigy.

In period movie news, 'The Hollywood Reporter' writes today that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will take the lead role in SEACOLE historical biopic in which the story revolves around Mary SEACOLE, a pioneering Jamaican doctress who battled prejudice to play a key role in the Crimean War, rivalling Florence Nightingale.The film, to be helmed by Charlie Stratton (IN SECRET) will reunite her with THE HELP producer Brunson Green.

Seacole was born in 1805 to a free Jamaican woman and a Scottish officer. She followed in her mother's footsteps and became a nurse versed in traditional Caribbean and African herbal remedies. When the Crimean War broke out, she applied to be a nurse for the British government, but her request was denied. She paid her own passage to the Crimean Peninsula and set up a hotel for soldiers.

Content Media has announced today that they will distribute internationally a ground breaking new sf movie PANDEMIC which has mind blowingly gorgeous Rachel Nichols in the lead role (she was Scarlett in GI JOE and I know that tones of you loved her in CONTINUUM series) alongside Mekhi Phifer and Alfie Allen. It is set in the near future, where a virus of epic proportions has overtaken the planet. There are more infected than uninfected, and humanity is losing its grip on survival. Its only hope is finding a cure and keeping the infected contained. Lauren (Rachel Nichols) is a doctor, who, after the fall of New York, comes to Los Angeles to lead the charge in the hunt for uninfected civilian survivors. Lauren's objective is simple - lead her team into the field and rescue survivors. Lauren and her team  put on their anti-contamination suits, complete with cameras so their experiences can be used for research, and leave the compound. But nothing could have prepared them for the mayhem they are about to walk into.

Rival NBC has, meanwhile, hired Monica Potter to topline their new multiple camera sitcom produced by Ellen Degeneres. The story will revolve around a woman whose dating life is hampered by her family and three ex husbands according to 'Deadline'!

Fox has ordered an untitled family sitcom pilot from FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES producers which will be told from the point of view of a working mom who is in constant competition with her perfect, stay-at-home sister-in-law.

I've recently shared with you the first photos from Spike TV's upcoming mini series on king Tut, and now it seems we will be getting another Ancient Egypt set series, but this time  at ABC! OF KINGS AND PROPHETS will be an epic Biblical TV drama bringing the saga of faith, ambition and betrayal as told through the eyes of a battle weary king, a powerful and resentful prophet and a resourceful young shepherd on a collision course with destiny. They could be talking about King David here. We announced a series on him a year ago from EOne, but we haven't heard anything about it later on.

Meanwhile, rival NBC has ordered a pilot for new TV series from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, the creators of popular historical series THE BIBLE,  and the upcoming epic mini series AD and THE DOVE- KEEPERS. Their new project UNVEILED will have the story revolving around an ensemble of flawed guardian angels who intervene in the lives of those who find themselves facing crisis in an attempt to restore their faith and, often, save their lives. As you remember Roma Downey was the creator of classic series TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL which had a similar storyline.

According to 'Latino Review' Warner Bros. is planning on our beloved Karl Urban to take a supporting, possibly villain, role in AQUAMAN! Last year we announced that the superhero movie will have a 2018 summer release date and will star Jason Momoa in the lead role. He will probably appear first in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and then in two JUSTICE LEAGUE movies as well. Karl Urban is doing STAR TREK 3 this year as Dr. Bones, and he has also been announced as the lead in THE WONDER fantasy adventure about a group of schoolkids who follow a rainbow that magically transports them to China, where they find themselves pursued by a mysterious organization as well as the cause of a natural disaster.

In TV news, AMC's new martial arts epic fantasy show BADLANDS has added another name into its cast. The show which will be based on the 16th century Chinese tale 'Journey to the West' following a highly skilled warrior named Sunny (Daniel Wu), who goes on a journey through dangerous land with a young boy in search of enlightenment, will see FRINGE's Orla Brady playing a Baroness and the ex-wife of gang leader who runs her domain with an iron grip! Emily Beecham plays The Widow, a regal beauty and a cunning strategist with extravagant fashion taste who has gained power the old fashioned way – she’s spilled blood for it. Sarah Bolger plays Jade, a porcelain beauty who masks her ambition with fragile innocence. Oliver Stark plays the warrior’s son Ryer who has not lived up to his father’s expectations!

In the main television news today, CBS has found the young actress who will take the lead role in their SUPERGIRL series! GLEE's Melissa Benoist has got the job! The new show will be produced by Greg Berlanti, who is currently producing ARROW and THE FLASH at CW. The show will centre on Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. 

'APOCALYPSE SLOUGH' CASTS

In news coming over from Great Britain Sky1 has teamed up with American NBC to produce new sf comedy drama APOCALYPSE SLOUGH which will revolve around a group of seemingly unconnected characters, as their lives start to intersect when it is reported that a large eight mile wide comet will collide with Earth. Together, they hunker beneath the town of Slough, about 20 miles west of London, to watch the end of the world on TV.
Rob Lowe will lead the cast as Father Jude, who holds the position of Devil’s Advocate in the Vatican. He is a charismatic, irreverent, rebellious but also deeply moral man who is passionate about his faith but doesn’t feel the need to constantly prove it. Jenna Fischer (The Office) will appear as mild mannered Rhonda, sent to prison in New Mexico for a crime she did not commit. Her wish is to be reunited with her family. 'Will and Grace' star Megan Mullally is Leanne, a white supremacist who takes Rhonda under her wing. Matthew Baynton will feature as bank manager Jamie, inspired by the impending apocalypse to find his wife - who disappeared in mysterious circumstances seven years ago. Pauline Quirke will play Jamie's mother Paula, and Joel Fry is confirmed as Jamie's hedonistic best friend Dave. Paterson Joseph is cast as General Gaines, who briefs the United States president on high-level military matters.

I'm a bit late with this one, but then again it's never really too late to post anything on magically stunning Emily Blunt! After getting a Golden Globe nomination (her fifth in total) for her performance in INTO THE WOODS she might go into epic waters again since rumour has it that she might be the new villain in THE HUNTSMAN prequel to the SNOW WHITE, which has ditched Kristen Stewart and will focus on Chris Hemsworth's character's origins. This would also mean that Charlize Theron might not return as evil queen Ravenna either. Frank Darabont has left the director's chair last week due to creative differences with the studio, but it seems that Universal already has another helmer in mind. April 2016 is the release date! Emily is also wanted for CAPTAIN MARVEL!

We continue with updates on new sitcoms today, people, starting with the news coming from NBC. Earlier this Autumn I told you that both ABC and NBC were courting Eva Longoria to come to them with her projects, and now it seems NBC has won since Eva will both produce and star in their new sitcom TELENOVELA! In the thirteen episode comedy series she will play the wilful, popular diva Ana Maria, the star of Latin America’s most beloved TELENOVELA, who strives to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared to the drama off-camera.

Speaking of NBC, I've already announced that from March 17th they will have a new comedy hour with UNDATEABLE and ONE BIG HAPPY and now we have trailers for both. Coming from Ellen Degeneres, ONE BIG HAPPY will follow two  best friends Lizzy (Elisha Cuthbert) and Luke (Nick Zano). As kids, they saw each other’s parents go through divorce and have ever since formed an inseparable bond. Now, all grown up and still single, they’ve decided to start a family of their own, but in a non-traditional way. Lizzy, who is a lesbian, wants to raise a child with Luke by her side. Then one night, Luke falls for Prudence (Kelly Brook), a free-spirited British girl who’s due to go back to England in a matter of days. Then, just as Lizzy discovers that she’s actually pregnant, Luke announces that he and Prudence have gotten married and in an instant — a different kind of family is born.

Coming on March Tuesday nights right before ONE BIG HAPPY is the second season of last year's truly beautiful smash hit comedy - which will now air in early spring instead of May like last year when, thanks to its warm humour, it became NBC's most watched summer sitcom in last ten years. The sitcom stars delightful Brent Morin as Justin, a 30-something carefree guy who becomes friends with a bunch of people who have qualities that make them unattractive to the opposite sex. Second season will continue following their adventures in dating and finding partners, and in developing warm friendship between this band of oddballs. Also staring are Chris D'Elia as Danny, Justin's roommate and business partner, Bianca Kajlich as Danny’s baby sister, David Fynn as Justin’s gay bartender, Rick Glassman and Ron Funches as the regular jokesters in Justin's pub. Disney star Bridgit Mendler is replacing Eva Amauri as the new optimistic waitress!

I have a bunch of comedy updates for you, so we shall have NEW 2015 SITCOMS days today and tomorrow starting with the first trailer for THE ODD COUPLE which has finally been released by CBS! Moving in together February 19th will be Matthew Perry as endearing slob Oscar Madison and Thomas Lennon as uptight neat freak Felix Unger, two former college buddies who become unlikely roommates after the demise of their marriages. It’s not long after Oscar lets Felix move in that Oscar fears he’s made a monumental mistake. However, despite how exasperated they make each other, these mismatched friends agree they can help each other move on from their divorces and somehow make their crazy living arrangement work.

Meanwhile, Fox has released the first clip for their new sitcom WEIRD LONERS which will gather the weirdos together March 31st  in the comedy about four relationship-phobic, quasi-underdog 30-somethings who are unexpectedly thrust into one another’s lives, forming unlikely bonds in a Queens, NY, townhouse. Becki Newton plays Caryn, a cute, but high-strung dental hygienist whose romantic life is dictated by the love-crazed, ultra-romantic 13-year-old barricaded inside the control room of her brain. Zachary Knighton is Stosh, a handsome, charming and whip-smart Wall Street player, at least until he romances his boss’ fiancée and gets unceremoniously canned! Nate Torrence is his cousin, Eric, a sweet, odd man-child, with whom he has to move in. Meera Khumbhani is Zara, Caryn's new roomate, mysterious and ethereal, a lifelong heartbreaker who’s only capable of living one way – “in the moment.”
