CATE BLANCHETT AS SHIP CAPTAIN IN 'CASCADE'? DELIGHTFUL 'ESIO TROT' TRAILER WITH JUDI DENCH, DUSTIN HOFFMAN! BRADLEY JAMES TO LEAD 'DAMIEN' TV SERIES, SEQUEL TO 'OMEN'

CATE BLANCHETT TO
COMMAND A SHIP IN 'CASCADE'?
In her career she really played the most various roles, but this one will be very unique for Cate Blanchett: she might become an action heroine in 20th Century Fox thriller CASCADE in which she might play the lead role of a ship's captain! This Ridley Scott produced movie would have the story set in the aftermath of an oil tanker's collision in the Persian Gulf, which escalates into an international crisis. Cate Blanchett will play the ship's captain, who tries to find a way to prove that she did not commit a terrorist act. You will watch Cate as her Elven highness queen Galadriel in THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES this month and then next spring as the charmingly wicked stepmother in Kenneth Bragnah's fantasy extravaganza CINDERELLA!

BRADLEY JAMES
TO LEAD 'DAMIEN' TV SERIES
And here is someone we've truly missed a lot in TV news today: dashing Bradley James, who became popular playing King Arthur in BBC's beloved fantasy saga MERLIN, will come back to the small screens, albeit in a project I personally wouldn't choose for him - he will take the lead role in Lifetime's DAMIEN series which will be a TV sequel to THE OMEN classic horror movie! The good news is also that our beloved Shekhar Kapur (ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE) will direct the first of the six episodes which will delve into the life of Damien Thorn as an adult, years after the 1976 film which told the story of his childhood as an Antichrist. DAMIEN will be forced to come to terms with his true identity in the face of the satanic forces around him.

LOVELY 'ESIO TROT' TRAILER
JUDI DENCH & DUSTIN HOFFMAN
Your bit of utter delight today is the first trailer for enchanting ESIO TROT small screen adaptation of the Roald Dahl story which will air on New Year's Day at BBC One! Directed by Richard Curtis (LOVE ACTUALLY) this lovely TV movie will see Dustin Hoffman portraying Mr Hoppy, a retired bachelor, who harbours a secret passion for his neighbour, Mrs Silver (Judi Dench). Unfortunately, she lavishes all her affection on Alfie… her pet tortoise. He devises a plot to win her affections, after he learns of her wish for Alfie to be bigger. James Corden and Ricky Gervais also star in the film.

  1. Our Cate certainly is working a lot lately. I think these kind of roles will be good for her career over the long term. It shows her depth and versatility as an actress. As Hollywood is unkind to women as they get a bit older all these roles could secure a lifelong career for her.

The Epsio Trot trailer was an absolute delight darling. It is perfect that they are to air this on New Years Day. Starting the year with something funny and heartwarming is a good thing. Also anytime Dame Judy acts, it a bright spot for the world. BBC One is quite nice about allowing people to put their work up on the Youtube as well. So that's good for me.

    1. She does need more lead roles now when she is in her prime!
Yep, and 6pm too at New Years' Day, what a lovely way to spend the late afternoon if you're in UK :)

    2. She will age well I suspect and she has a dignity and grace about her that time cannot steal.

By the way, our Winter Painting Challenge starts in five hours. Wish me luck!

    3. I can't believe she is already 45!
The bestEST of luck, dahlink :) May more paint end up on the figurines and not on your fingers :)

    4. I didn't know she was 45. I thought she was in her mid thirties at best. Oh to have cheekbones such as hers.

    5. Her kids are probably close to their teens now! It is strange seeing all the stars from the previous decade being over 40 now, some over 50, since most of them don't seem to age much

  2. Cascade - the title spells intriguing to me. Enjoyed Blanchett in Hobbit, ofcourse.
Esio Trot - will be cute.
I often have to wait to catch BBC shows over internet. But they're so worth the wait.

    2. @Dixie-I saw you asked Fran where he was moving to. He's moving back to Ireland and he's going to be living in Tipperary.

    3. he is? Such bliss! Is he happy about it?

    4. I don't know all the details but I think this is for financial reasons and not necessarily a choice he and the SWMBO really wanted to make. Tipperary is very cheap to live in, whilst Kent England is expensive.

    5. Oh - thank you so much Anne! I would love to see Ireland or England!! I hope he keeps blogging. I'm just learning a thing or two. Also, Anne I saw your warrior princess - amazing work.
Dezz - PBS is my fave. I really must think about a another row with TV. (maybe.)

  3. A veritable feast today, Dezzy. The lovely Cate Blanchett who is always first-class in all her roles. And then there's ESIO TROT with the dulcet tones of Jude Law narrating. I shall look forward to both :)

  6. ESIO TROT Yes, Please! I bet that is going to be fabulous!

Know what was NOT fabulous? The #$&I* stupid Grumpy Cat movie. I sat down to watch that with my girls last night and seriously wanted to drown myself, or that cat, before the show was over. Worst. Movie. EVER!

    1. it will be a New Year's delight!
I've heard everybody hated Grumpy's film which made her even more grumpy.. don't know if that is good for her or not :) Most people hated Aubrey Plaza in the voice cast

    2. The voice was terrible, but that could have been overlooked- maybe. What really ticked me off what they kept pointing out stupid things like "Hey, we are on a Lifetime movie." "Hey, we sold 15 million Grumpy Cat items." If I watch a movie, I do it to escape reality for a bit. Not to be reminded that I am watching a Lifetime movie or that the stupid cat made millions of dollars. Just give me a good storyline. That's all I was asking for.

    3. poor Grumpy, I'm guessing she had no say in the script....

    4. I'm the only one who can make a grumpy movie work like a charm. Yep, that's right. Me.

    5. did you know that Grumpy cat has earned close to $70 million in last two years?

  7. I actually don't know much about the actor, but DAMIEN is a good, creepy concept for a show!

What COULDN'T go wrong with that?!
