UNITE OR BE DESTROYED
FLAMES OF WAR ARE UPON YOU
The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to the legendary dragon), the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo's frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen), the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide - unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

  1. I haven't seen The Hobbit yet. I know there was a lot of people complaining about the way it was filmed. Are they doing that with this one too?

    1. they're visually stunning, at moments even breathtaking, but they lack the depth, character building, warmth and magic that LOTR had. They're drawn out and feel like they were done without any love, just to be done

    2. PS your site keeps eating up my comments, so I haven't been able to comment there for a week or so

    3. I did hear it was tedious too.

Akismet decided it didn't like you and sent your comments to spam. I blathered on about that in a reply to your comment once I found and restored it. It should all be good now. Though why it "suddenly" was a problem is beyond me. Oh, here I go again...

  2. I haven't seen The Hobbit but I remember reading the book and being lost in the words not wanting to stop. It was a hard book to put down once you began.

  3. Agree, Desmond. The LOTR is a magical trilogy. The Hobbit has good moments, mainly with Morgan Freeman and Richard Armitage, but the rest of the cast is not captivating. I miss the strength of Aragon, the huge fidelity of Sam and the fellowship between Legolas and Gimli.

    1. I wouldn't agree that the rest of the cast is not captivating since Luke Evans and Lee Pace beat any actor who appeared in LOTR in charisma and talent. The problem is that the characters in HOBBIT don't have the friendship and chemistry that the characters shared in LOTR

    2. Ok. I have to say that I had never heard about Lee and he's amazing with an amazing voice.
As for Luke I still have some doubts. He "sells"himself everywhere. He's in opening stores, fashion shows, products releases and, honestly, I think all this a little bit odd because we don't see actors like Fassbender or Richard Armitage or James McAvoy doing this kind of marketing.

    3. but that is because Fassy and McAvoy aren't fashion icons, and Lukey is :) and when you have model charisma why not flaunt it.... There are so many actors who do this and still have depth in acting. And I also have to add that Luke is an amazing and warm person too. He never forgets his fans, does a lot of charity work and he's been a friend of this blog for many years now and never forgets to send us a nice word and thank you.
You should watch Lee Pace in Tarsem Sing's THE FALL and you will fall in love with his radiance (and with the film too)

    4. Unfortunatelly, it's impossible to find any movie/serie with Lee. Since you write about him with so energy, I started to look something but till now,.. nothing!
Well, as for Luke, I'll wait this Dracula Untold be release and I'll pay more attention to him. If you know him and think about him so nicely, I have to believe that he's a good person althought I don't think he's a GREAT actor. Just average but that's OK. It's enough for me.
I appreciate the fact that you always send me an answer. It's something really nice but only few people do.

  6. So, I have still only watched the first LOTR movie. I really want to see them all, I just can't sit for 3 1/2 hours watching tv though :(

    1. yes, the monumental lasting of those films often is a problem. I've watched LOTR movies at least ten times each of them, but I don't think I will do the same with HOBBIT flicks..... sadly.....

  7. Hey Dezmond,

Such a detailed, meticulous read. Might I add that Tolkien spent a considerable amount of time in the town I now live in, Leek, Staffordshire, England. Apparently, he observed the locals who helped inspire Middle-earth. I understand what he meant.

  8. i enjoy the idea of the hobbit as a trilogy, it's to hard to follow... as we are walking, next we are running and in the end... we are fighting. this journey should have had more heart, i am rooting for the dragon.

    1. yep, there was no heart, no soul... and we need some r'n'b and soul..... don't play it again, Sam...

  9. I hope this final film packs the emotional punch that is needed, and some of the magic of LotR is captured.

    1. epic is the word! And battles are usually the best parts of Tolkien's films

  12. I like it, but don't love it...
With LOTR it was epic, with the HOBBIT movies it is drown out till it dies...

  13. I've loved The Hobbit since my parents bought me a beautifully bound edition when I was in Grade 6. I'm looking forward to this one - but I wish these had the same 'oomph' as the LotRs :)

  14. I'm sure I will see this with my youngest son. And can you believe I've never seen any of the LotR movies?!

  15. I don't think the Hobbit should be compared to the LOTR so much, because let's face it, it is a very different story, yet equally as captivating. And I can't wait :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wait? What is so different about them? Beside the fact that LOTR had less boring dwarves and Hobbitses :)

      Delete
  16. Well, the Hobbit story is set before the LOTR for one. And people in general are constantly comparing the two.

That's what I think anyway. Don't mind me, Dezzy. Just me being me!.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think that they're more comparing the way it was shot not so much the story. Unlike LOTR which had perfect timing within scenes and perfect dynamics HOBBITS are more like Jackson's KING KONG - overly slow, long and monotonous which takes a lot from the magic that is supposed to be there.

  17. WHAT! ANOTHER HOBBIT MOVIE? Say it ain't so. Oh wait... I remember... the second movie ended with the dragon that talks too much... I bet he still has a couple of things he needs to get off his chest. Like: "I... am... fire!!!!"

    Pfffffffft

    1. I watched it a few months ago and I already forgot what happened in it.... I can't even remember the ending....

    2. The ending.... Just a big dragon talking too much. "I am fire.... I am death...."

      I'm so trembling.

    3. ah, yes, the part in the dragon's den made me fall sleep about four times..... and the sweet rattle of his golden coins really is like a lullaby

      Delete
    4. They should've given the dragon a female voice. No? Oh... I'm being a sexist again... How politically incorrect of. But he did talk and talk and talk.... ;)

    5. not a bad idea, ladies tend to love bling bling more than gents... and most of them have fiery tongues too
