SARAH GADON, FRANCOIS ARNAUD FOR HISTORICAL FILM 'THE GIRL KING' ON SWEDISH QUEEN KRISTINA! BBC'S NEW WWI SERIES 'THE PASSING BELLS' WITH JACK LOWDEN! SONY MAKES 'MEDUSA' ANIMATED MOVIE!

THE GIRL KING
HISTORICAL DRAMA ON SWEDISH LESBIAN QUEEN KRISTINA
One of the lovely new faces - Sarah Gadon (from WORLD WITHOUT END, THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN 2 and you will see her next to Luke Evans this Autumn in DRACULA UNTOLD) will star in historical movie THE GIRL KING which will, set in the 17th century, follow the brilliant, extravagant Kristina of Sweden, queen from age six, who fought the conservative forces that were against her ideas to modernize Sweden and who had no tolerance for her awakening sexuality. Malin Buska will play the queen, Sarah Gadon will be her lady in waiting and lesbian lover countess Ebba! THE BORGIAS' Francois Arnaud also stars!

DEZZY'S HISTORY LESSON
Crowned Queen at the age of six, Kristina of Sweden was thrust into a labyrinth of power and tradition, where a court of austere, Lutheran men pressured her to marry and produce an heir to fulfil her destiny. She caused a scandal when she abdicated her throne and converted to Roman Catholicism! She spent her later years in Rome, becoming a leader of the theatrical and musical life there. As a queen without a country, she protected many artists and projects. She chose her cousin Charles as her heir and organized an extremely lavish coronation for him!

 WAR WORLD ONE AT BBC
'CRIMSON FIELD' AXED, 'THE PASSING BELLS' ORDERED
The news over from the Isles today is that BBC has axed CRIMSON FIELD World War I series which won't be getting the second season, but BBC is preparing other series this Autumn based on the Great War. THE PASSING BELLS will be a five part series in which the conflict of the First World War unfolds through the eyes of two very ordinary young men, both of whom have enlisted in a war they expect will be over within months. Jack Lowden and Paddy Gibson will play the two young men for whom the war has little mercy, no matter which side they might be fighting for. Over five chronological years, we follow their lives as they grow up, lose friends and find love amid the horrors of the war. The story looks at all aspects of the war – from the families left behind to the strategic decisions by politicians and generals that led to unimaginable bloodshed and the tragedy of the trenches.
SONY PLANS ANIMATED MOVIE ON MYTHOLOGICAL MEDUSA
Sony Pictures Animation is preparing a new animated movie for us: Emmy winning Lauren Faust will direct MEDUSA a hilarious story of the infamous snake-haired mythological lady! It will be a clever, heartfelt animated comedy about a girl who's having the ultimate bad hair day. Scheduled for 2017 it will follow MEDUSA as a young human, who is overwhelmed with trying to fit a certain mold to please others. Her resulting popularity ticks off the wrong Goddess who turns her into the snake-haired monster. MEDUSA sets out on a quest to reverse this curse with the help of a goofy team of oddball and misfit mythological creatures who help her learn that what makes you different is, in fact, what makes you strong.

  3. I'm going to be seeing the play "Christina, the Girl King" onstage this fall at the Stratford Festival in Ontario. Glad to hear there's going to be a film too! Queen Christina is a lesbian icon! And I just loved Francois Arnaud in "The Borgias" -- a Canadian/Quebecois actor, you know.

  13. I'm taking my ex-hubby to a movie this weekend for his birthday. Gads, none of this looks familiar, or much interesting. Our first date - like years and years ago - was to see Ace Ventura. Aweful. Now, he wants to see a similar movie. I think he just wants to piss me off and see if I'll actually do what he wants on HIS day. Decisions, decisions . .

    1. methinks she did enjoy her life when she left for Rome... She had fun there, you know how the Italians are carefree and openminded for all naughtiness.... And I should start a history blog :)

  18. Medusa as a comedy might be worth watching (despite my disinterest towards animation), even if it is animated. Maybe it clicked because I saw myself in the mirror this morning.
