NEW 2014 SITCOMS: 'THE ODD COUPLE' WITH MATTHEW PERRY, 'THE MCCARTHYS' WITH TYLER RITTER, 'SELFIE' WITH KAREN GILLAN & JOHN CHO, 'LAST MAN ON EARTH' WITH WILL FORTE & 'WEIRD LONERS'

THE ODD COUPLE
MATTHEW PERRY & TOM LENNON
In our spotlight yesterday you saw some of the new comedy shows which will arrive to the small screens either this summer or in the Fall season, and today you can check out the second part of the spotlight focusing on other networks! Probably one of the headliners will be CBS's hilarious new sitcom THE ODD COUPLE which is actually a remake of Neil Simon's classic 1965 play! The comedy, reimagined for the small screens, will star Matthew Perry from FRIENDS and Tom Lennon from SEAN SAVES THE WORLD in the lead roles! Perry portrays slobbish messy Oscar Madison and Lennon is uptight neat freak Felix Unger. They are two former college friends who are simultaneously watching their marriages go down the toilet. Oscar lets Felix move in, which at first seems like a bad decision, but it soon becomes clear that they're able to cope better together than apart because opposites do attract!

THE MCCARTHYS
GAY SON OF IRISH CATHOLICS
Also starting at CBS this Fall will be THE MCCARTHYS following Ronny, the gay son (Tyler Ritter) of a sports-crazed Irish-Catholic family in Boston who decides to move out of the three-story  house the family all shares together and strike out on his own. Jack McGee, Laurie Metcalf, Joey McIntyre, Jimmy Dunn, Kelen Coleman also star!

TAKE A 'SELFIE'!
KAREN GILLAN AND JOHN CHO
Meanwhile, over at ABC they will take a SELFIE!  This new sitcom will star Dr. Who's Karen Gillan as a woman who is famous on Instagram but, after having a change of heart, hires a marketing guru (STAR TREK's John Cho) to teach her how to become less dependent on technology and live life offline.

WEIRD LONERS
RELATIONSHIPPHOBIC PEOPLE!
Fox will introduce us to the WEIRD LONERS a six-episode comedy about four relationship-phobic people who are thrown into each other's lives when they all wind up sharing a townhouse together and growing as humans. Zachary Knighton, Becki Newton, Nate Torrence, Meera Rohit Kumbhani are starring!

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH
 POSTAPOCALYPTIC COMEDY
Also airing at Fox will be THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, an extremely unique apocalyptic comedy with Will Forte portraying an average guy, Phil Miller, who in the year 2022, becomes the last human alive on earth and spends his days completely alone searching the earth for another human. Watch the hilarious trailer below:

  1. I'll try the Odd Couple remake, but Jack Klugman,Tony Randall were such sensations, I'm not sure I can buy Matthew Perry and Tom Lennon's version. I'll see.

It's about time we had a postapocalyptic comedy. I'm not into apocalyptic stories, but this one might work for me.

    1. I will give ODD COUPLE a go too, I love the two actors and multiplecamera comedies.

THE LAST MAN ON EARTH trailer is so hilarious :) I often fantasize about being the last being on Earth and what I would do in that situation :)

  4. Hmm. I may or may not watch these. I'll have to give them at least one episode to win me over. I guess I shouldn't expect every series to be the quality of DaVinci's Demons. Man, do I ever love that show.

    1. I find the second season of DA VINCI'S a bit chaotic. I still love it, and I still think it is the most epic show we've ever seen on TV covering all continents and settings... but I do think that this season was drawn out and that each episode needed more focus and a more rounded up plot, in this way the whole season has been one long episode without the much needed smaller climaxes.

  6. You had me at Karen Gillan...is she in a wig, or did her hair grow back that fast?

    1. probably a wig, or maybe the pilot was shot long before she did GUARDIANS?

  7. I wish the networks would give new series longer to establish themselves. You start getting into it, and then it's cancelled.

  8. I loved the original THE ODD COUPLE with Jack Klugman, and Tony Randall. Brilliant TV viewing!

I think Matthew Perry is very well cast, but just not sure about Tom Lennon. Time will tell I guess.

  10. three shows enter... two show leaves, it's a tough one... i dig many of the stars. the only one that makes me think i could watch is the odd couple... the problem, call is something else and name the people... something else. maybe the matthew and tom show.

  11. Okay, the fact that there would be a TV show called "Selfie" was disturbing enough. Now I learn it's about a woman who is "famous on Instagram?" With most of the population still not sure what Instagram even is, I'm not sure that's much better than being the most popular person in your Driver's Education class.

  12. The Odd Couple seems like it's been cast well.
I like the premise of Selfie, but I'm not convinced I'll like the movie.
And I'm intrigued by the Last Man on Earth.

  14. The McCarthy's aren't Irish, they're Americans. They don't count as one of us. We have a really good show, Mrs. Browns Boys, that deals with a family with a gay son. Ours is better than this one.

    1. I bet it is, dear, these are American views of what Irish is.....

    2. Well they've got it wrong and it pisses me off.

    3. they get everything wrong, everything that can be got wrong they will get it wrong...

  15. And to answer your question about gay painters. Yes, I have a friend named Tamsin and she is openly gay. She is very well respected within the gaming community. I painted a babe up for her and sent it to her for Christmas. I'm sure there are many others as it is a highly artistic and diverse community.

    1. The Irish one, I dunno. Doesn't appeal to me. My husband is Irish though not Catholic. And not to post off topic, but I love making him Irish Potato Pancakes. I grew up eating Jewish (grandfather's side), potato cakes.

Both are good but the Irish ones are more fun to make. I can shape them into hearts with cookie cutters.

    2. are those the same as latkas?

      Delete
    3. Latkas, yes, that's just what they are. My other grandfather was Polish Jew - we ate lots of things from his childhood.

Do you enjoy them? Does Serbia have their own version of a latka?

      Delete
    4. Though, I think we're spelling it wrong, I think there's an e at the end of the potato pancake. Latke. Either way, we ate these a lot as a kid but now I enjoy the Irish ones better because the recipe I have calls for leftover potato mash, and by gosh, I seem to always have mash in the house.

      Delete
    5. no, we don't have latkas... we eat potatoes baked or mashed... and I already shared with you how us Vojvodinians make macaroni with potatoes.... which are partly Hungarian too :)

I do love it when there's leftover mash! It can be used in so many lovely dishes. I usually make fritters with them or I put them in pastry dough

    6. Krumplis Tészta, I make that ALL THE TIME and then for breakfast, I'll just do the Hungarian Krumpli and add a bit of sour cream. Though sour cream prices near me are just so high sometimes.

Then I will bake the krumpli wrapped in dough but that's more from my Jewish side.

I love that my family, both sides, have strong ties to their foods. And I also love when my kitchen smells like Mamam's. Makes me happy and teary-eyed as well.

I forget if I asked already, but did any of your grandparents like to cook or bake?

      Delete
    7. it's my fave dish with paprika and onions! Sour cream is relatively cheap here, but the cooking cream and sweet cream are not.
No, nobody in my family has talent for cooking, even though my father was a cook. I don't remember that any of my grandmothers had ever made something for us..... and even my late father almost never cooked for us

      Delete
    8. That's one of mine too, Dezzy. And it's a great base for many lovely dishes.

Where did you get your interesting in baking?

      Delete
    9. PS: $1.50 for 453 grams of sour cream. Not even a full 500 grams. To me, this is too high, but I bought it because today I'm making homemade onion dip, and then over our staycation, various krumpli dishes.

  19. Judging by number of TV shows that don't cut it, I hope at least one or two of these sticks. I hope The Last Man on Earth does well, it sounds and looks like something I'd like. We'll see! As always, thanks!
