And something that you over in USA will be able to watch from January 15th in NY cinemas is German war mini series done in the vein of BAND OF BROTHERS. Titled 
GENERATION WAR the block- buster miniseries vividly depicts the lives of five young German friends forced to navigate the unconscionable moral compromises of life under Hitler. Level-headed, highly decorated officer Wilhelm (Volker Bruch) goes off to the eastern front with his sensitive younger brother Friedhelm (Tom Schilling). Deeply in love with Wilhelm is Charlotte (Miriam Stein), a young nurse who looks forward to serving in the Red Cross. Greta (Katherina Schüttler) is a talented singer who longs to become another Marlene Dietrich, while her Jewish boyfriend Viktor (Ludwig Trepte) fights for his 
life while hiding among members of the Polish Resistance!

GENERATION WAR will be released in USA this month in limited cinemas before it hits DVD market. The series have caused controversy in some countries where some critics have suggested that the TV series is providing excuses justifying German populace participation in the war. Others believe that the series tried to show how Germans were lured into Hitler's war in what was Germany's darkest era!

DeleteI'd watch "Generation War" if I had the chance but I know I would have mixed feelings while doing so.
ReplyDeleteit's true. Polish people hated it because it had some controversial scenes in which some Polish people were depicted in a wrong way. It's a very sensitive material
DeleteGeneration War might deal with sensitive material, but I think that part of our past no matter who does it will upset some. All the same the show sound intriguing i might have to catch it on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI always like to hear all sides. After all, we all remember how Kate Winslet's READER had put such a different perspective on the issue of ordinary people being caught up in happening larger than them.
DeleteSpeaking of Band of Brothers, that was one collection my husband wanted to try but the price was always so dang high for the collection. Not sure what it is now though.

No, no. I was still revising the other novel then. It's been two years writing this one. Took a lot of research and sorting out to finish it the way I wanted. But now I have two out of three novels done/almost done from the trilogy I have planned. :))))

DeleteNo, I'm going to query this spring. I did a crazy thing and wrote the books out of order -- second book first, first book second, so I had to wait to query. But no more!! Bring on the rejections!!! Whooo!

DeleteHmmm, the German perspective on the war would be a hard one to illustrate. World War 1 wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the Germans in WWII? I don't know if that is a perspective I would want to see. I'll be curious as to how they handle it.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting perspective because it shows how a nation can be manipulated through political speeches and media... kinda like what we have now in USA. Most of the world sees USA as modern Nazis who go around the world killing people, stealing their resources and terrorizing, but the people in the USA see it differently because of all the media propaganda and manipulation that they are exposed to. This is why such series and films can be very sobering to them.
