'DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW' DRAMA WITH REBECCA FERGUSON, SAM REID, OLIVER JACKSON COHEN, CHARLES DANCE! CONDOLA RASHAD IN FOX' ANCIENT EGYPT SHOW 'HIEROGLYPHS'! NETFLIX' 'MARCO POLO' EPIC SHOW! RUSSIAN WWII EPIC 'STALINGRAD'

DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW
REBECCA FERGUSON, OLIVER JACKSON COHEN, SAM REID
Here's a rather gorgeous cast for you: Enlightenment Productions will soon start shooting DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW period drama over in Serbian capital Belgrade based on the book by Shamim Sarif who is also directing the adaptation of her own novel. The cast is lead by Rebecca Ferguson (THE WHITE QUEEN, HERCULES THRACIAN WARS), Sam Reid (THE RAILWAY MAN, HATFIELDS & MCCOYS) and Oliver Jackson Cohen (DRACULA, WORLD WITHOUT END) alongside acting legends Anthony Head, Charles Dance and Trudie Styler. The film takes place in 1950’s Moscow and centres on communist Katya (Rebecca Ferguson), who secretly spies for the Americans in the Cold War arms race. When she lands her biggest assignment, stealing secrets from rising government star Alexander (Sam Reid), the last thing she expects is to fall in love with him. When Alexander unwittingly closes the net around his own wife, Katya decides to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect him - a sacrifice that Alexander only uncovers forty years later.

CONDOLA RASHAD JOINS
ANCIENT EGYPT SHOW 'HIEROGLYPHS' AT FOX
I've recently announced that Reece Ritchie is the first actor to join new Fox historical show HIEROGLYPHS, and now they have another cast member: Condola Rashad has joined the 13 episode series set in ancient Egypt, where fantasy and reality intertwined. It follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharaoh (Reece Ritchie), navigating palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and even a few divine sorcerers. 'Deadline' writes that Condola will play Nefertari, the Pharaoh’s half-sister with a rare beauty that intimidates even the strongest of suitors… and she knows it!
MARCO POLO SHOW AT NETFLIX
In other TV news, Netflix is preparing MARCO POLO epic series which was originally meant for Starz. To be released in all 9 episodes at once at the end of this year, it will follow the 13th century adventures of the Italian merchant traveller in a kinetic tale of high politics, masterful manipulation and deadly warfare. Produced by GAME OF THRONES' Dan Minahan, the show will soon reveal its global cast.

'STALINGRAD' WWII EPIC
 HITS US CINEMAS IN FEBRUARY
Your trailer for today is coming from Russia - their huge blockbuster STALINGRAD, which earlier last year became the highest grossing Russian movie ever, will hit USA Imax cinemas on February 28th! Russian entry for this year's Oscars, directed by Fedor Bondarchuk, is epic tale about the legendary WWII battle for STALINGRAD. One of the most expensive Russian films with the budget of $30 million is a 3D epic love story set during the devastating World War II battle for the Russian city of Stalingrad that lasted more than six months and ended with the German army surrendering in 1943. There is also a dramatic love story against the backdrop of the grand battle! Depicting the bravery of Russian people in the heroic city during the war, the movie stars Thomas Kretschmann in the lead role.

    1. not overly well, since it will have a very limited release only in some IMAX cinemas and only for a week or so. It broke records in Europe and also in China.

    1. It is really a visually stunning movie and people USA should watch it to learn more about the heroic battles of European people in WWII.

    2. Living in the USA during the "Cold War" we were taught that Russian people were cold, and didn't have emotions. Growing up and actually opening my mind to understand that they are people, not some organization bent to destroy us. Russians are proud and loving all the same. Sorry to rant.

    3. That's very ironic, having in mind that Slavic people are actually most famous for their warmth, emotions and friendliness. History is way too often written by media manipulation :( Similar case is with Serbs, who are depicted in US media as butchers and genocidal, while the truth is that in both world wars they were the only ones among their neighbours to fight against the Nazis and the Germans and even in the Civil War in the 90's they accepted more than 700,000 refugees (which is the second largest number of accepted refugees in history) and why would refugees flee to them if they were really genocidal? Again, Western media manipulation.
Stalingrad is known in Europe as a city hero, since they've lost almost a million people who fought to free their city from the Nazis. A million, and yet a fact unknown to most of the people in the west :(

  8. I am starting to get excited for the Marco Polo series. That could either turn out really well or really bad. Thus far, I've enjoyed every Netflix produced series. Have you watched House of Cards? I'm shocked by the end of every episode!

    1. I haven't, I only watch historical and fantasy shows, never any political or crime ones. MARCO POLO should be fun, given the fact the setting and the exotic aspect. They're shooting it in Malaysia. Starz wanted to shoot it in China, which would make it the first Western show shot there, but it was too expensive and they gave the project over to Netflix. Hope they do a great casting!

  9. Releasing all episodes at once sounds a little risky - it will be interesting to see how that works out!

  11. Loads of good things here today darling. Despite The Falling Snow will show people the beauty of your city and your architecture, As you know Ireland has no such grand ancient buildings and I've never really seen anything like that in real life. Also I do enjoy a good spy story, especially Cold War ones, something I actually know quite a bit about.

And Stalingrad really should be seen by all Americans as their WWII stories only cover their own small part in the war. Seeing what the people in the city endured and doing so with spirit will be moving to all peoples. I know you understand first hand what these horrors are like and you have come out the other side without bitterness and hatred.

    1. yes, dear, and the casting is so gorgeous, they picked out all of my fave faces :)

Yes, over in USA they think that the WWII didn't even exist outside their own involvement. And they think they're the ones who won it, even though millions of European lives have been given to secure the victory before they came to the stage. It is interesting how they all make a historical fuss about 2 thousand lives lost in a fallen building in USA, but yet, know nothing about millions lost in Stalingrad, Belgrade, or any other city in Europe. I was recently shocked how none of my American friends knew nothing about the Belgians who, back in the 19 century, brought the number of native citizens in Kongo from 20 million to barely 8 million through genocide and killing the enslaved black people. That's ten million that most of people around the world and in the USA know nothing about.
