"BIG SUR" TRAILER WITH JEAN MARC BARR, JOSH LUCAS! ANJELICA HUSTON, MILLA JOVOVICH IN 19TH CENTURY "THE WINTER QUEEN"! JULIA ROBERTS, MATT BOMER, MARK RUFFALO IN "THE NORMAL HEART"

Here's an interesting project for you and it's a period piece: Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk will helm a movie adaptation of Boris Akunin's international bestselling novel THE WINTER QUEEN. Milla Jovovich, Anjelica Huston and David Thewlis will lead the cast in the story of intrepid young police detective Erast Fandorin and a mystery that begins with the suicides of several wealthy young men throughout 1886 Russia and ends in an extensive plot for global domination. Fandorin's naïve wit and the suave yet volatile Count Zurov (David Thewlis) are his only protection from the ever more elaborate attempts on his life as he follows the conspiracy from Russia to England and back again; navigating unknown worlds with charm if not with ease. The enigmatic femme fatale Amalia (Milla Jovovich) seems to be somehow at the centre of it all, but can the saintly British aristocrat Lady Astair (Anjelica Huston), founder of a string of orphanages which have greatly benefited from the wills of the affluent dead men, really be trusted?

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
A project HOLLYWOOD SPY has announced more than a year ago is finally moving on: according to "The Hollywood Reporter" the adaptation of Larry Kramer's THE NORMAL HEART  will see the light of the day at HBO in 2014. Based on the Tony winning play, this
telepic will star Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer and Mark Ruffalo. To be directed by Ryan Murphy, the man behind GLEE, AMERICAN HORROR STORY and THE NEW NORMAL, the story of the film will take place in New York City during the early '80s onset of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Julia Roberts plays a paraplegic physician working with some of the earliest patients of the disease.  Mark Ruffalo will play writer and activist Ned Weeks through whose eyes we shall follow the rise of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984, and Matt Bomer, who is gay in his real life too, will play Ruffalo's boyfriend, a fashion designer who has AIDS, while Alec Baldwin will play Ruffalo's brother, a rich lawyer who has difficulties accepting his brother as a gay person.

BIG SUR TRAILER
The only trailer I have for you is a visually very striking one for BIG SURMichael Polish's big screen adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel which stars Jean-Marc Barr, Kate Bosworth and Josh Lucas, and depicts the consequences of the fame that the novel
brought to its troubled author once it finally was published years later. French star Jean-Marc Barr plays Jack Kerouac, a man besieged by sudden notoriety and unable to cope with its trappings, such as TV appearances, recognition and wealth! Kate Bosworth plays his
fiancee and the centre of the love triangle between Kerouac and his best friend Neal Cassady played by Josh Lucas. To premiere at Sundance Film Festival, the film takes place in Big Sur, California, where Kerouac visited his friend Lawrence Ferlinghetti, as well as San Francisco.

    1. I like it too, Bob, especially since I liked Fedor's Russian blockbuster from a few years ago - sf epic THE INHABITED ISLAND.

  3. The Jack Kerouac movie sounds interesting. Maybe it will function to introduce more people to him who don't know much about him.

  4. The Winter Queen looks fantastic. Wonderful cast they've assembled. And the settings should be beautiful as well. I think Angelica looks fabulous in that photo. You know Jack Nicholson broke that poor woman's heart so many times, but she's a strong woman.

I lost a friend in the first wave of HIV. We were in school together and he was soooo beautiful. He emigrated to New York to be a model in 1981. He came home to see me in about 1985 and he was very ill. He died about a year later. His horrible mother was unable to cope with his sexuality and would not have him buried in our village cemetery. He died in his flat, in Limerick and was buried there. I hope they do this story right, because it's too important to be done cheaply.

I think Kerouac was over-rated as an author. His work was important only because it reflected the thinking of the beat generation in America and for that, it does belong in the pantheon on literature. The film looks really good and I would like to see it. It has texture and mood and the music-I like it.

    1. You know, I've had that photo of Anjelica with me for quite a long time saving it for the opportunity to use it, but she appears in so little projects these days.... I'm glad I've finally managed to post the pic :)

So sorry to hear about your friend, darling. I've never lost anyone to HIV, it's not so widespread here, but I did finish a course for HIV educators back at college. I'm always deeply horrified by parents and especially medical workers who have prejudices of this or any other kind.

I've never liked the beatniks nor the jazz generation, Annzie. Their topics aren't appealing to me personally, I'm more of a realistic type of reader.

    2. I hope they do this story right, too. they do have an excellent cast. Especially Ruffalo and my Matt. :)

Aww...I think Jack is a brilliant, brilliant writer who is quite simply one of the most important American writers. The Beats and the Jazz Age writers are my favorite of all time. Their work is extraordinary to me. :)

  5. Such an artsy trailer. I'll probably watch Big Sur at some point. Never read any Kerouac before, but I like stories about troubled writers.

I do feel your pain on Julia. I love my Matt and it will break my heart to see him play sick.

    1. I don't think I will bare watching him ill either, Melsy. I've barely survived when they made my Kiss Evans small and tinny in CAPTAIN AMERICA.
