HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON 2013 APOCALYPTIC FILMS PART II - "OBLIVION" WITH TOM CRUISE & BRAD PITT'S "WORLD WAR Z"

You have probably noticed, by now, my little freaks, that we have survived the Mayan apocalypse and that we are (most of us) still in our non-zombie shapes. But Hollywood is obviously still obsessed with the
impending doom and is preparing tones of apocalyptic movies for 2013, so let us do a spotlight on them. You saw the first part yesterday, and here's the second one:

OBLIVION
Another one of the apocalyptic movies dealing with a destroyed Earth is science fiction epic OBLIVION which will open up in theatres next April starring that
crazy man Tom Cruise, stunning Olga Kurylenko, GAME OF THRONES' Nikolai Coster Waldau and Morgan Freeman. Directed by TRON:LEGACY helmer Joseph Kosinski, the story is set in post-apocalyptic Earth, where civilization lives above the clouds and scavengers illegally collect artefacts from the polluted and destroyed surface below. When one young scavenger discovers a crashed spacecraft planetside - and a beautiful women within - he rejoices at the find. Little does he realize that his discovery will lead him to a journey filled with romance, adventure and unimaginable danger.
DID YOU KNOW?
Having in mind that Tom Cruise's latest film JACK REACHER has been a shocking flop at the box office the question is whether OBLIVION will manage to return it's costly budget of $140 million.
Before the lead female role went to gorgeous Olga, it was the focus of a competition between Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and many others. While Kate Beckinsale, Diane Kruger and Hayley Atwell all auditioned for the second female role which later on went to an uknown actress.

WORLD WAR Z
Now this one will bring another of Hollywood's favourite looks upon the doomsday -  a zombie invasion, but if you thought you've seen all about zombie invasion in popular TV show THE WALKING DEAD, you ain't seen nothing, because WORLD WAR Z promises swarms and hordes of zombies attacking worldwide like mad ants! With the aim to
be one of summer 2013 blockbusters this zombie adventure has a dynamic story which revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. The cast of the epic film also
includes Matthew Fox, David Morse and James Badge Dale as Captain Speke, an American soldier who tries to warn the government that the threat of zombies is real, and the director is dashing Michael Forster from QUANTUM OF SOLACE.
DID YOU KNOW?
The whole film is based on the popular book by Max Brooks which became a worldwide bestseller. As you probably remember, the shooting
of the film underwent lots of problems - from all the weapons used in the scenes being seized by the Hungarian police, to Brad Pitt shooting some of the scenes in a Viagra factory and to tones of American cars and trucks being shipped over to UK sets to give the authentic look.

  1. I just don't care for the main actor. He's too much of a wank for me to be able to enjoy the movie.

    2. Pitt, but now that you mention it, I don't much care for Cruise either. Just not people who make me want to see their movies.

Now, if you put Wolverine in, I might change my mind.

      He's yummy.

    3. ah, yes, Pitt has lost quite a bit of his appeal after connecting himself with that crazy woman Jolie....

    5. methinks it all started when he was born :)))
I always remember poor Mimi Rodgers she was his first puppet wife.... and all the time he just wanted to marry David Beckham or Rob Thomas....

    6. For me it didn't start with Oprah, it started when he was a wank about divorcing his wife. By time he was on Oprah, I was already sick of his crap.

  4. I think the problem with Jack Reacher is simply that Cruise was miscast. It may have been a decent movie under another title, but the fans who could have made it a success know he doesn't resemble the character at all.

Oblivion likely won't break the box office, but I'm very interested in seeing it.

  9. Can't stand Pitt or Cruise. I'm sure WWZ will be a huge hit and I like zombies, but I saw the trailer for this weeks ago and it's more than I can stomach.

On a positive note, we got out for the first time since Tuesday of last week and it felt so good! The sun was shining and the streets are drivable. Five to six foot drifts in some places still, but the roads are good. Woohooo!!!

    1. twould be cool if zombie outbreak really started while millions of people are still in the cinema watching WW Z :)
The two of us would be among the survivors since we live in God forsaken places :)

Five to six foot, that's not that bad, we had up to 3 meters of drifts a month ago on the roads of Vojvodina :)

  10. I saw the trailer for Oblivion yesterday and at first I thought, hmmm, what a great storyline and then I saw the actors and thought, never mind, it just made the movie suck.

I'm no fan of Pitt as of late, although I still love him in Snatch, but I will be going to see WWZ and plan on reading the book too.

  12. Why didn't they ask Mel Gibson? What... we don't need another hero in Thunderdome? Really, haven't we seen enough CGI to say ooooooh aaaaaah another famous building going boom...?

    2. well Mel is such a sweetheart to work with, I'm guessing it's like being in heaven while working with the religious freak :) Especially since in his movies you star in Aramaic or Mayan language :)

No, plans, I hated this year and want to bury it and let Grumpy cat Tard piss on it.... Hope you're celebrating at some gala party?

  13. These two films look interesting, I have some reservations about World War Z because I really like the book and the film will be nothing like its source. Oblivion reminds me of Wall-E mix with Solaris and Enemy Mine.

Also, I don't think it was shocking that Jack Reacher didn't do well at the box office. Paramount didn't have big expectations for it since they didn't start promoting the film until about a month before its release date. It's relatively a small budget production for a Tom Cruise's film, $60mil to produce, it will make a tiny profit for Paramount anyway once they count the box office take here in the States and worldwide.

World War Z's trouble production concerns me just a bit though. There are already rumors that Marc Forster is no longer in control of the crew and the film's Director of Protography Robert Richardson is actually doing the directing himself. Not a good sign when a film's director is no longer in control. Pitt was the one who convinced his old buddy/ex-agent Brad Grey, Paramount's CEO, to hire Forster, so it should be Pitt's fault if the film fails at the box office.

    1. yep, Thomas, I have a feeling fans of the book won't like the movie and Brad Pitt doesn't really give an impression of a trustworthy producer or actor.
