"THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY" SECOND TRAILER IS HERE! PLUS A HUGE SPOTLIGHT ON THE WHOLE SAGA WITH EXCLUSIVE NEW PICTURES FEATURING CATE BLANCHETT, RICHARD ARMITAGE, IAN MCKELLAN, AIDAN TURNER, HUGO WEAVING

After almost nine months of waiting after the release of the first one, the second trailer for this year's biggest epic adventure THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is finally here announcing the long awaited film which is to open in cinemas December 14th this year as the first part of the trilogy which will also include THE HOBBIT: THE
DESOLATION OF SMAUG (premiers December 2013) and THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN (hitting cinemas July 2014 and will be made from the footage already made for the first two films which were shot back to back, but there will be some additional shootings as well for the final part of the saga). Differently from the first
trailer which served more as an introduction into the whole marketing campaign, the second trailer is much more action packed featuring lots of scenes of epic adventures, the epic journey, lots of fantastic creatures and cute animals, crazy dwarves and their leader Thorin, some sword
fighting between Gollum and Bilbo, and above all some magnificent and truly spectacular shots of delightful Cate Blanchett as elven queen Galadriel.
THE HOBBIT STORY
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey,
Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although
their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo
Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's precious ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know!
THE HOBBIT CAST
As you remember from HOLLYWOOD SPY's extensive spotlight on THE HOBBIT characters, the magnificent cast includes Cate Blanchett as the Elven queen Galadriel, Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins,
Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Luke Evans as Bard the leader of Men, Benedict Cumberbatch who will lend his voice to the dragon Smaug, Hugo Weaving as Elven king Elrond, Lee Pace as Elven king
Thranduil, Stephen Fry as Master of Laketown, Evangeline Lilly as Elven girl Tauriel, but the first part of the film will mostly focus on the dwarves: Balin (Ken Stott), Bifur (William Kircher), Bofur (James Nesbitt), Bombur (Stephen Hunter), Dori (Mark Hadlow), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Fili (Dean O'Gorman), Gloin
(Peter Hambleton), Kili (Aidan Turner), Nori (Jed Brophy), Oin (John Callen), Ori (Adam Brown), and their leader Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage).
THE HOBBIT TIDBITS
Overly dark and morbid Guillermo del Toro was supposed to helm the film, but fortunately, Peter Jackson took it over during the pre-production limbo. Actors James McAvoy, Matthew Goode and David Tennant were in the option to play Bilbo. MGM's bankruptcy, Peter Jackson's ulcer surgery and New Zealand union strikes are just some of the troubles THE HOBBIT went through. Barry Humphries, also known as famous Dame Edna (US audience remembers her/him from ALLY MCBEAL) will play a CGI
Goblin King, the ruler of the underground caverns in the Misty Mountains. Howard Shore who wrote the music for LORD OF THE RINGS will compose for THE HOBBIT saga as well.

    2. ooh, I love me those eyebrows :P they're so mysterious, I think Peter might have chosen him due to those two bushes :) Our Luke Evans, will have a horrid costume in the film, Flixy, judging from some set pics I've seen :(

It's a sliding banner :) has three pics within it :)

  20. Hi Dezmond ! sorry, I've missed this important post but I had to do on some far countries!
I've a lot to say about this "Hobbit" but I'll try to be short....
I don't like the Trailer, it's not "The Hobbit", it's something which looks like "the Hobbit", which smell like "The Hobbit" but it's not "The Hobbit" !!!
It's something different and P.J. uses(usurps ?) the name for doing a new story !
Why Galadriel ? what is this guy on a sledge ??
never see (read) about "that" in The Book !!!
I'm really afraid of what I will see on the screen!

    1. Seems like you had your own journey and an adventure then :)
He put Galadriel in the story because millions of people would not see THE HOBBIT without her :) Me for example. She's one of the most popular characters from the LOTR saga. Legolas will also appear in some way, but I'm not sure which way exactly.

  21. Ok Dezmond, I can understand your point of view about Galadriel, but it's ridiculous!
what's "millions of people"??? if they can't live without the vision of a beautiful woman in the screen, I scare for them!

What I understand, and what I presumed is that it's another $$ "money-maker" movie $$.
It's not for me (just for my little son!)

    1. it's true, Samwise, but you do know that films are never made for readers but for viewers. And Jackson did make Tolkien's books much more popular after he shot LOTR films.
I myself have never read HOBBIT, and in today's times, the film based on the book would be less successful with no female characters in it. This is why they've thrown in Lily Evangeline's Tauriel character as well.
