AUGUST 2012 INSPIRIING FILMS: "360" WITH ANTHONY HOPKINS, RACHEL WEISZ, JUDE LAW, "THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN", "HOPE SPRINGS" WITH MERYL STREEP, TOMMY LEE JONES, "SPARKLE" WITH JORDIN SPARKS, WHITNEY HOUSTON

I'm sure that in the sea of sf and superhero blockbusters this summer, you will find some time to watch a few smaller movies with deeply inspirational stories. Here's HOLLYWOOD SPY's selection:

WEAVING LOVE IN 360
First, here's an unusual drama by Oscar nominated director Fernando Meirelles (THE CONSTANT GARDENER). Titled 360, the film will open in cinemas August 3rd featuring a rather stunning cast
lead by Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins, Oscar Nominee Jude Law, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz and young Ben Foster.  Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's classic "La Ronde", screenwriter Peter Morgan and director Fernando Meirelles' 360 combines a modern and dynamic roundelay of stories into one, linking characters from different cities and countries in a vivid, suspenseful and deeply moving tale of love in the 21st century. Starting in Vienna, the film beautifully weaves through Paris, London, Bratislava, Rio, Denver and Phoenix into a single, mesmerizing narrative. If I got it right the film weaves together the stories of an array of people from disparate social backgrounds through their intersecting relationships.

TIMOTHY GREEN
Opening August 15th is THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN You can check out the interestingly intriguing trailer for this
enchanting, inspiring, and magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can't wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim, and their small town of Stanleyville, learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life's greatest gifts. The cast of Disney's drama also includes Dianne Wiest, Ron Livingston and rapper Common.

HOPE SPRINGS
Yet, another of the inspiring films hitting cinemas August 10th is HOPE SPRINGS in which Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones
play Kay and Arnold, a devoted couple: decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband. When she hears of a renowned couple's specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy. Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough - the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place.

SPARKLE
I'm sure you will agree with me that musical films are always great inspiration and on August 17th you will be able to check out SPARKLE in cinemas. Featuring the last role of Whitney Houston ever, and set in the 1960s, the story of the film follows three sisters who form girl group and soon become Motown sensations, but fame becomes a challenge as the close-knit family begins to fall apart. The lead role in the movie is played by amazing music star and huge talent Jordin Sparks. Another music star Cee Lo is also in the cast of the film.

  1. I saw a sneak preview for 360, loved it. Beautiful stories. I was actually more impressed by the performances of the film's lesser known actors.

It looks like an adorable movie with a very high moral compass. It looks like one of those movies that I'd be attached to right from the beginning. Very heartwarming.

  7. These are all good ones today. 360 has a great cast, my favorite being Hopkins. I've seen the trailer for Green before and it looks like a quirky film with a good message.

I'm interested in Sparkle as well because it has all that great Motown music and is set in the 60's,a rich period for that genre.

The post just went up luv.

    1. I like the cast too, always love Jude Law's work and Rachel is always nice too.
SPARKLE should be very inspiring to watch, eventhough, being from Europe, I don't find the African American music very appealing. I will watch it for Jordin Sparks.

    2. The music of the African American appealed to me on so many levels and their music saw me through many a dark period and also shaped me as a musician.

They were a people I could identify with. Abused, poor and treated like less than human yet out of them came music as complex as Ja . Their spirit in the face of harsh treatment shone through in the music of Blues. It was their music that gave birth to the musical forms that are the basis for my drum playing today. I feel I owe a debt of gratitude to these fine and great human beings who suffered so much and gave so much.

    3. yes, darling, I get that kind of appeal and I know that many people love jazz music and similar sounds, but not me. And here I mean the music itself (rhythm, instruments, melodies) not the messages and the meaning because those certainly are very much appealing.

  8. 360 has the director, the cast and my interest level but the reviews I've read so far haven't been very positive.

    1. I've also heard a few bad reviews, but those were probably from people who get their orgasms watching dark superheroes and such morbid and trivial, deeply evil things.
