THE TASTE OF MONEY
First something unusual from Asian film world: extremely slick trailer for South Korea's Im Sang Soo's THE TASTE OF MONEY movie. The extremely stylish thriller follows Young-jak , who is a private secretary of madam Paik, the centre power of Korean conglomerate, and who witnesses immoral private issues of her wealthy family. Meanwhile, he finds out that madam Paik's husband, Mr. Yoon is having affair with their Filipino housemaid, Eva. He reports what he witnessed to madam Paik, and now despaired madam Paik is greedily seducing Young-jak in order to keep him on her side . Young-jak is deeper into madam Paik's family issues when he finds out the brutally killed Eva. Lost between his morality and shortcut to successful life, he has to make the biggest decision he's ever made, to choose whom he will hang on to, in order to survive in this harsh world, where he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
STARRY STARRY NIGHT
Something quite different from what we are used to seeing in Asian film comes in Tom Lin's STARRY STARRY NIGHT. Something very warm and magical. Opening this summer at some of Northern American film festivals, the film brings the slightly fantastical tale of Mei, a 13-years old girl trying to deal with growing up, while still escaping to her own fantasy world when real-life problems prove to be too daunting to face. Mei finds a companion in Lee, an introverted young boy who just transferred from another school into Mei's class. When Mei's parents decide on a divorce, Mei runs off with Lee in search of a moment of untainted happiness and maybe even some romance.
CHINESE ZODIAC
Definitely one of the most anticipated Asian films this year is CHINESE ZODIAC which is very interesting because its lead star Jackie Chan has announced that this will be his last big action packed movie due tohis age and health, and he apparently wants to dedicate more time to his family. According to "Twitch" the 58-year old actor is the action choreographer, writer, director and producer for the film, and has spent seven years preparing and one year shooting in over ten cities in five countries. It therefore comes as no surprise that Chan called this 'one of the most important films' of his career. The globe-trotting adventure has Chan's character searching for the 12 bronze heads of the Chinese zodiac. The film has a rather interesting premiere date as it is due for release on 12/12/12.
"Starry Starry Night" looks charming and sweet. Hope I get a chance to see it some day!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Debs, I hope to see it too myself
DeleteStarry Night looks amazing, the part where she looks up at van gohg's starry night coming to life is truly beautiful
ReplyDeleteit is, isn't it? Seems like a genuinely warm and lovely film.
DeleteOh no, Jackie Chan's last action movie? I'll definitely see it! The Taste of Money looks really good too, love the art and costume style to it.
ReplyDeletewell he might shoot other movies, but not the big ones, at least he says so :)
DeleteI'm sad to see Jackie Chan leaving the silver screen, at least in action movies but I can see his reasoning. I'd rather see him leave while he's on top of his game. Plus, any man who leaves to spend time with his family, is a great man to me! =)
ReplyDeleteHe did shoot more than 100 movies so far, did you know that? I think he will still do it, but not huge movies which require months and months of preparation and shooting
DeleteI knew he had done a lot of work, mostly in China, before he came to the States. The work he does is taxing on his body. Not many people do their own stunt work like he does. There's a lot to be said for people like him.
Deleteyep, as he said for this particular film, it took years of practice, exercises and choreography to prepare all these action scenes of his.
DeleteCant go wrong with a new Jackie Chan movie lets be honest...
ReplyDeletehonesty is the best policy :)
DeleteMany actors say they are done only to come back time and time again. Connery is the only major one who has so far stuck to it that i can recall. Sure chan will do another. This one sounds like a huge one though, might be ond to watch.
ReplyDeleteI can't say I miss Connery much :) Wish Cruise, Roberts, Decaprio, Jolie would go the Connery way :)
DeleteI'm putting the Jackie Chan movie on my calendar. Too cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on Claire Maguire, I do indeed like her.
oh, glad you liked Claire, isn't she magnificent?
DeleteChinese zodiac seems to be the one. I will watch it. Except the librarian, the ancient/mythology treasure hunt never ceases to impress me.
ReplyDeletewe do love ancient treasures and mythology!
DeleteJackie Chan is getting old
ReplyDeletehe is probably above 55
DeleteHow old is Jackie?! He is always entertaining :D
ReplyDeleteprobably in his sixth decade :) But more flexible than ten times younger boys
DeleteI'll definitely be catching the Jackie Chan movie - if we're still around then :) Cool release date.
ReplyDeleteStarry looks swweet, and myohmy does Taste of Money look hot. Love those posters. Wow.
I see a few other exciting posts here I've missed over the last week Dezzy. I'll go catch up on my reading.
.....dhole
yep, the Mayans are threatening :)
DeleteBeautiful posters, yes? There are more amazing ones for that same film, but I didn't have enough space to post them all.
Reminds me a bit of the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon
ReplyDeleteyes?
DeleteThese posters are brilliant. I love the artwork and the colors. All of these films sound intriguing, but I probably will not get to see them on the big screen unless I go to an art house theater. Great previews!
ReplyDeleteI love the posters too :) very pretty. Glad you liked the previews
DeleteWow, another stunning poster w/ Van Gogh's STARRY NIGHT artwork. I think that film is my fave out of this three, Dez.
ReplyDeletemine too, Flixy!
DeleteMe too!!
DeleteAll three movies sound great tho. I am also looking forward to jackie's film as it is going to be his last action. I like him a lot when I was younger
