Now, you already know that
James Cameron is dedicated to the development of the second and third part of his record breaking fantasy tale
AVATAR, but now it seems that, when he finishes the two films, which will probably be shot back to back and released in 2014 and 2015 or maybe a year later, he might do
AVATAR 4 as well and he is quitting any other production work on other people's films and on his own documentaries until he finishes the saga. It was revealed previously that
AVATAR 2 will probably be set close to the oceans of Pandora, and it will be director's third film in more than 16 years! He is currently setting new visual effects pipelines since he wants the sequels to be revolutionary just like the original film was. This all means that Cameron won't do
BATTLE ANGEL ALITA after all. For more than a decade he planned to do a sf epic on the female warrior cyborg after he finishes AVATAR 2, but with the new sequels it seems that won't happen.

SPARTACUS, the producers have now added some much needed female characters, since, as you know, most of the female heroes, including Lucretia (
Lucy Lawless) and Illythia (
Viva Bianca), died in the second season. According to "Entertainment Weekly" the cast now has three young actresses: New Zealand actress
Anna Hutchison, who played a free-spirited temptress in "Cabin in the Woods", will play Laeta, the privileged wife of a Roman dignitary who becomes entangled in the struggle against Spartacus. Australian actress
Jenna Lind will play Kore, a loyal slave to Marcus Crassus
(played by
Simon Merrells), the Roman tasked to bring an end to Spartacus and his rebellion. And New Zealand’s
Gwendoline Taylor will play Sibyl, a beautiful young slave rescued from Roman cruelty.

DeleteYep, I cannot see SPARTACUS without Lucy and Craig Parker either. The only one remaining is Liam, and he is rather mediocre in his job :(

Tons more for spartacus as well, hopefully it will stay good, not sure though with everybody dead.
I agree cat and I can only imagine that he's gripped by this thing as an artist because it's financially risky to invest in a 4th before he knows what the numbers on this are going to be.

Deleteyou know, you didn't miss all that much. Although visually lovely (but nothing overly impressive), the story was deeply mediocre and generic, and it was obvious he stole the ideas from so many different books and films.
Just don't try to sell us your seeds, cat, we need no such kids growing in our gardens :))))

DeleteI reckon he's afraid to let go of the project given the fact that he already dedicated more than 10 years of his life to it.
I'll prob watch it one day, but yeah it sounded mediocre to me, glad to know I was right. And that is why he won't leave it, so much time and money he has to try and milk it for all it's worth now.

and plus it lasts for toooooo long... I think I almost fell asleep at least two times. Which is not that bad given the fact that I fell asleep six times during the first HARRY PLOPPER :)
DeleteDon't even mention Harry Plopper in my presence. Over rated as a book and not worthy of a movie. I didn't even bother going to the cinema to see it. Rented it and after a few minutes dismissed it and back it went to the store.

My favorite in book HBP and worst in movie is the same one.
I think that the bad young actors are what killed the film for me personally.

ReplyDeleteit's worth seeing for the visual beauty, but the story is something you can easily miss and live happily.
DeleteHowever, it does have a very nice message, which nobody in US understood, since it, in a way, talks about modern US colonialism and worldwide invasions of smaller countries and cultures.
I'm not surprised that Cameron will be preoccupied w/ Avatar, I'm curious to see how he'd bring that world underwater. That guy is obsessed w/ water, ahah.

it's true, the story of AVATAR was mediocre and deeply pathetic in writing, although it did have a nice political message, which, sadly, nobody actually noticed even though the film was out somewhere during US brutal invasion on Iraq.

DeleteI was quite impressed with the first Avatar film. It had great special effects but it was the story line itself I was more impressed with. It's going to be hard to top the first one.
