I'd like to announce that this Sunday, March 4th,
HOLLYWOOD SPY will bring you a huge spotlight on all the most interesting TV show pilots which will appear on
big channels in season 2012/2013. To give you a taste of that, here's one of the most interesting upcoming pilots: with the success of ABC's
ONCE UPON A TIME it seems we will be getting lots of new sf and fantasy shows, and probably the biggest among them will be CW's
THE SELECTION. Based on the yet to be released book saga from
Kiera Cass, the story is set 300 years in the future and follows a poor girl named America Singer, who is chosen by a special lottery to compete to marry a prince of a war-torn country and become the new empress. The cast already has its lead stars:
Aimee Teegarden is America, while
Ethan Peck (Gregory's grandson) plays the prince.

Although most of you didn't react all that well when I told you that
CBS is making an American version of SHERLOCK HOLMES show called
ELEMENTARY in which
Jonny Lee Miller will play the famous and legendary detective, who doesn't solve crimes in Victorian London but in modern New York, CBS is still going on with the project, and now "Deadline" reports that Holmes will have a female Dr. Watson: stunning
Lucy Liu. Holmes himself is here a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab centre in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with his sober companion Joan Watson (Liu), a former surgeon who lost her license after a patient died, while consulting for the NYPD.

mesmerizing couple
Rachel Weisz and
Tom Hiddleston. The film, which opens in US cinemas this Spring and was already released in UK, has two gorgeous stars as the main characters in the story of the privileged wife of a prominent judge who leaves her husband for a young pilot in the 1950s. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, she doesn't know what, or whom, to choose! The film has received great reviews so far and is being described as "timeless and nostalgic, classical and very modern, achingly emotional and serene" at the same time.

Lucy is over-rated in my opinion.

DeleteHaving her as Watson is kind of ummm strange. Not that it couldn't work, but still CBS is seriously just trying to rip off the british one. First show sounds like it might be interesting too, but who knows, it's cw so may be a tad too lovey dovey for me.

DeleteOh how I love Rachel Weisz! I saw her on the West End in London a few years back, and ever since I try to watch every single thing she does. (Not like a stalker though :)

Although I didn't think Starbuck being a female would work in Battle Star Galactica, but that turned out great. I guess I'll have to see it. Thanks for the heads up on these new flicks and series.

DeleteYou got me at 'Gregory's grandson' :D Ethan is pretty isn't he? Just like his grandpa. I've been following his career now but he's got lots to catch up with just to be half as good as Gregory. I might watch that show though if he's in it, too bad it's on cable once again!

Why don't they just call it "A show loosely based kinda sorta on the idea of Sherlock Holmes, but we think you're stupid too notice it's nothing at all like Sherlock Holmes so bugger off" Annezilla doesn't like this Dezzie!!

DeleteI will try to keep an open mind about Lucy Liu as Watson. I think the gender change to a female Watson is an interesting idea, but not with this casting. To me Watson is a good person and a caring doctor (even if he's sometimes been portrayed as a bit of buffoon), But Liu definitely does not send out friendly vibes and I also don't think she has the acting chops to make us buy a female Watson.
ReplyDeleteWhy do US TV networks and producers try to remake successful UK shows in "our" image. The US/Canadian "Being Human" is a recent example. Why not create great original US TV instead?
yes, Watson was always my fave since he is kind, nice and wise and Liu is more on the evil side :)

DeleteBrett was a very masterly Holmes. The Granada series with Jeremy Brett is one of the best adaptations of Sherlock Holmes ever.
ReplyDeleteHave you read the book "Bending the Willow: Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes" by David Stuart Davies. This book is a must read for fans of the Granada adaptation and/or Jeremy Brett.
