JOHN CARTER STORY
This sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars) is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he discovers a lush, wildly diverse planet whose main inhabitants are 12-foot tall green barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Dejah Thoris,
Princess of Helium, who is in desperate need of a savior. He will also encounter formidable alien creatures resembling the beasts of ancient myth and he will become reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet,
including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
JOHN CARTER CAST
Now check out the absolutely amazing cast: Taylor Kitsch (John Carter), Lynn Collins (princess Dejah sporting breathtaking costumes in the trailer), Mark Strong (Matai Shang a ruler with godlike status, you can see him in the trailer with stunning blue eyes), Willem Dafoe (Tars Tarkas, a 10-foot tall, four armed green Martian), James Purefoy (Kantos Kan, the captain of the kingdom of Helium's grand warship), CiarĂ¡n Hinds (Tardos Mors), Dominic West (Sab Than, a prince who believes he is entitled to
rule Mars), Polly Walker (merciless and tyrannical lady Sarkoja), Thomas Hayden Church (ambitious and vicious warrior Tal Hajus), Samantha Morton (Sola, Tars Tarkas's daughter, a soft-hearted princess of a violent race), Bryan Cranston ...
JOHN CARTER TIDBITS
This is the first live action film of amazing Oscar winner Andrew Stanton who brought us some of the most touching animated classics from WALL-E, to FINDING NEMO and A BUG'S LIFE. The number is not official, but it is rumored that this could be one of the most expensive films in history with the budget reaching almost $300 million which means that Disney needs to make it the biggest blockbuster in March 2012 when it premieres in order to bring back all the money! The original name of the film was JOHN CARTER OF MARS, but Disney opted for a shorter name since
films containing word "Mars" in the title, weren't successful at the box office so far. Some of the actors who were considered for the lead role instead of Taylor Kitsch include MAD MEN'S Jon Ham and Josh Duhamel. Robert Rodriguez was the first director to tackle this project with the idea of hiring, now late, Frank Frazetta as production designer. It is interesting that this film has been in development for the longest time in history - 81 years, since the first idea of a movie adaptation was born back in 1931, when there was a plan to make world's first animated film ever out of it! This is also the first live action film in which Pixar is involved!
Hi Dezzy - The trailer IS spectacular. And I loved when the guy said to John, "You are ugly, but you are beautiful." Excellent. =D
ReplyDeletehaha yeah the ugly crack was great. I soo hope this is as good as it looks and not one of those, "The best parts are in the trailer" movies.
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty good, why have I not seen commercials for this yet?
ReplyDeleteThat will be an interesting movie. (: Facebook Twitter
ReplyDeleteHi Dezzy, nice recap, I know you're excited for this one but I'm not sold on it yet. The supporting cast is indeed pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, I'm sure I'll watch this once it comes out to Blu-Ray.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a mixture of Avatar, the new star wars movies and a little Conan but still will want to see it.
ReplyDeletei want to exchange link.copy my banner link from my profile and send your banner link.
ReplyDeleteI am happy you are looking forward to this one matey, But it looks like it isn't for me. I await to be proved wrong.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend my friend!
It cost $300 million to make this crap? It looks like PRINCE OF PERSIA GOES TO MARS.
ReplyDeleteI can see this one flopping badly. To think that as a film property, JOHN CARTER has been in development for over 70 years... trivia fact.
Wow!! Taylor looks gorgeous and well, I had to watch that thing like four times so far. LOL This movie is going to seriously rock and yeah, after Mars Needs Moms, I could see Disney holding off on the Mars in the title. ;)
ReplyDelete@Shells
ReplyDeletethat seems to be a hit line from the trailer, everybody is mentioning it around the net :)
@Pat
the second trailer is so different from the first one which was elegant and subtle, while this one was action packed and extremely exciting. Looks like a mix of STAR WARS and AVATAR
@Dwei
ReplyDeletethey've been postponing the start of the marketing campaign for quite a long time, hope it will be aggressive from now on
@Pesos
it sure will
@Flixy
I thought you would be excited thanks to the cast
@Rgers
ReplyDeleteit does look super great
@Lurk

@Patrick
I've sent you the code for my banner
@Scottie
ReplyDeletefor me it's the film of the year, like IMMORTALS were this year :)
@Movies
I love it when people call something crap even before they've seen it. This film doesn't need a negative marketing from cynical fanboys
@Melsy
yep, you just can't stop rewatching the trailer. I kept trying to catch all the actors in the trailer, but I haven't seen Purefoy, Walker and Morton :)
Wow! Sounds right up my sci-fi alley! Thanks for being in touch with what's cool, so I don't have to be ;)
ReplyDeleteBTW, there's a little blogging present for you on my blog!
Looks interesting...but The trailer reminds me so much of Gladiator and Avatar
ReplyDeleteI think I need to change my shorts now. Love it.
ReplyDelete@Jenna
ReplyDeleteglad you like it :) I'm also amazed by the trailer and by the film and can't wait to watch it next year :)
I will pop over ASAP
@Novia
ReplyDeletethat's because it has that rich alien world like in STAR WARS and AVATAR :)
@Josh
he he that was my reaction too ;)
Dezzy; that looks good :)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to see it.
........dhole
You must, Donnzie :)
ReplyDeleteI just hope the story is not as predictable as AVATAR...good visual effect should be follow with good unpredictable story ;)
ReplyDeleteAVATAR really was predictable. I think it was made for mediocre moviegoers not for the ones with a more refined and demanding taste. It was lovely visually, but highly uninventive when it comes to script.
ReplyDeleteDemanding taste...that's a good line ;)
ReplyDeleteglad you like it :)
