The treat of the day is the first trailer for dark period thriller THE RAVEN which should premiere next March. Filmed last winter in Serbia, the film follows Detective Emmett Fields (our beloved Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery when a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in
the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack). But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story. Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for
his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.
And tomorrow at HOLLYWOOD SPY you will be able to read a charming guide through FAMILY AND ANIMATED Autumn/Winter 2011 films!
The Raven looks promising. I do love period murder-mysteries. They don't always work but I think John Cusack is well-suited to this type of role.
ReplyDeleteand plus you will be able to see Serbia's capital Belgrade which acts as Baltimore in this film :)
ReplyDeleteDid you know today is the anniversary of Poe's death? Coincidence? I think not.
ReplyDeleteThe Raven looks really brutal, but I'll probably still take a look at it.
yes, I knew about that, I heard from my darlings at Luke Evans fanclubs over at Tweeter yesterday that they are releasing this trailer today with that reason :)
ReplyDeleteA good old fashioned horror story! Looking forward to Raven for sure.
ReplyDeleteDepp as Seuss, there's something to check out.
Wow, look at Erin's hairy man chest!
ReplyDeleteThe Raven looks interesting, and i liked V for Vendetta so it being from the same director is a plus for me. It did seem to reveal a bit too much imo
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of Ben Whishaw, i am rewatching Perfume(i am going to finish it tomorrow as i forgot how long it is). I look forward to his presence in the next Bond movie
Oh my God I have got to see The Raven. Luke Evans is so incredibly versatile, he just becomes his characters while still maintaining this electric presence that is all his.
ReplyDeleteHow cool my Johnny is playing Dr. Suess. ;) I loved those rhyming tales when I was a kid. Sam I am loves green eggs and ham...
@Mary
ReplyDeletehey, Mary, haven't seen you in a while. Got that job? Hope all is well in your home.
Yep, THE RAVEN, should be your type of film :)
@Jessie
Erin likes Aaron Eckhart? :)
@Dirty
ReplyDeletealthough I'm not into overly bizzare films, PERFUME really was something special, because it had a very good atmosphere. And Ben played it real well.
@Melsy
spot on, Melsy, what you said about Luke is absolutely true. Always focused and yet always charismatic.
Green eggs? Mind you, Suess isn't that known outside USA, and I first heard about him when they shot GRINCH and CAT IN THE HAT :) so I don't know what green eggs are in his vocabulary :)
The raven does look decent, plus I like John Cusack's stuff, usually. So I will definitely give it a look. Although I'm not sure he'll ever top Hot Pursuit..haha
ReplyDeleteWell, The Raven looks very chilling indeed. Almost too much. I get scared too easily. :o :)
ReplyDeleteThe Raven looks good-interesting premise using Poe's stories. So it was Belgrade they used for Baltimore! Luke Evans was in Baltimore yesterday I think, wonder if he's still there?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about Depp and Dr. Seuss, though I like Depp, he has an air of "strangeness" that I'm not sure will work for the role. Dr. Seuss' characters,yes, but Dr. Seuss?
I like the look of The Raven, though I think I should read up on some Poe beforehand so I understand what the hell is going on :P
ReplyDelete@Pat
ReplyDeleteCusack really looks like Poe, as well, and I think you will also like Luke Evans, who's an amazing actor!
I've no idea what HOT PURSUIT is, but it sounds naughty, which I approve :)
@Emily
we shall hold each other's hands in the cinema :)
@Fabo
ReplyDeleteyep, cold streets of Belgrade were used last winter to act as 19th century Baltimore :) Belgrade is very convenient for shooting films since it has a very diverse architecture, from Modern buildings to some very old ones from different parts in history. It can act as Baltimore, and as Rome, and as Istanbul at the same time :)
I agree with you on Depp.
@Jamie
not sure reading Poe would help you with this one, but if you do read something from Poe,read my favourite work of his A CASK OF AMONTILLADO :)
Great post +followed :)
ReplyDeleteI like Berenice. :3
ReplyDelete@Bones
ReplyDeletethanks.
@Pesos
I wonder what exactly you like about her ;P
Wow on the Raven!!! i mark my calender for that.I really want to see that.The trailer is awesome
ReplyDeleteglad you liked the trailer, Novia :)
ReplyDeleteI, FRANKENSTEIN? I like.
ReplyDeleteAnother Bond movie you say? And with Javier Barden and Ralph Fiennes? Excellent.
I expected you'd like those projects, Josh :)
ReplyDeleteThe RAVEN looks great, doesn't it Dez? And look at that shot of Luke Evans running... man I wish I were able to meet him when he was at Comic-Con :(
ReplyDeleteah, sister, I wish I was there when he was running that scene at the streets of Belgrade :)
