JULIE & JULIA (great actors, bad direction) and didn't do much ever since YOU'VE GOT MAIL, she will now helm LOST IN AUSTEN. According to "Variety" it will be a big screen adaptation of BBC's television mini series from 2008, which followed a modern-day New York woman, who is a passionate fan of author Jane Austen. She somehow finds herself swapping places with the fictional Jane Austen character Elizabeth Bennett from "Pride & Prejudice". The film will be produced by famous director Sam Mendes, who is, as you know, currently shooting new JAMES BOND.
HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
As "MovieWeb" reports, John Collee (HAPPY FEET) will helm a movie adaptation of supernatural thriller THE SECRET JOURNEYS OF JACK LONDON. Written by Chris Golden and Tim Lebbon,
the book follows young Jack London, who, driven by the thrill of adventure and the promise of gold, sets off on a journey to the Yukon at the end of the 19th century where he faces obstacles such as raging rivers, dog-sled races and villainous prospectors, while discovering something much more sinister and mysterious waiting for him deep within the frozen woods. The latest one to join 2nd season of GAME OF THRONES is Rose Leslie (DOWNTON ABBEY) as Ygritte, a woman that Jon Snow meets beyond the Wall. "EW" describes her as strong-willed, witty, skilled in battle and survival in the wilderness, an unconventional beauty, skinny but strong with red hair.

The most talked about thing today in the film world has been the first trailer for THE AVENGERS which should hit cinemas next May. Not much is known about the plot of, what promises to be, next summer's biggest blockbuster, except that Iron Man, Captain America and Thor will be recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. to help save the world from annihilation. This of course means that Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Tom Hiddleston as Loki will all come back in this superhero extravaganza. Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo and Stellan Skarsgard are also part of the stellar cast.
Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't like Julie and Julia. That film has put me off Ephron who has, admittedly, made some terrific movies. Dare I say - I really liked You've Got Mail but I'm a sucker for Tom Hanks films.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a fan of Nora' Julie & Julia either. I am interested in Lost in Austen. The Jack London project sounds rather cool. I was never a huge fan of his writing, but I love reading about his adventures.
ReplyDeleteThe Avengers rocks! I so cannot wait for this movie. Chris Hemsworth is brutally hot as Thor. :)
I'm kind of curious to see what's waiting in the woods for young Jack London.
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda excited about the Avengers. Though, in the trailer I was half-expecting a Transformer to come barreling in--seemed like that type of filming style. Hee hee. :-)
ReplyDelete@Dan
ReplyDeleteI wanted so much from JULIE AND JULIA, since I adore both Meryl and Amy Adams, who were both outstanding and mind-blowing in their roles, but the film just didn't have a direction, a vision which is often the case with movies helmed by female directors (Campion, Ephron, Bigellow, Hardwicke...)
@Melsy
ReplyDeletehey, Melsy, hope things are better today? You got me scared a bit yesterday.
I'm also not a London fan, but we could always use adventure in cinemas :)
Chris really does rock as Thor. He totally steals the screen and the scenes from the others :)
@Luanne
ReplyDeletesomething spooky I reckon, hope not just some wolves :)
@LC
OMG, I totally had the same TRANSFORMERS vibe :)

ReplyDeleteTHings are better today, sweetie. Mom is home and on an antibiotic. Can you believe a deep infection was causing all of this? Yes , Chris totally steals the show as Thor. I love him and I hope he gets to be shirtless. I'm such a lecher where he's concerned.
ReplyDeleteHave some faith the Avengers will be good after all Whedon is doing it, and almost all his shows were great. But I won't hold my breath, Trailer looks great though.
ReplyDelete@Pat
ReplyDeleteyep, expect the best, be ready for the worst :)
@Joshua
ReplyDeletebecause the world is ruled by mediocre people and there is no originality nor creativity :)
@Melsy
oh, glad to hear it's nothing dangerous!
How did your job interview go?
REady for Thursday? :)
oooh! i loved the lost in austen miniseries thing! i hope this is done well!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're excited about The Avengers. I know I am (yawn).
ReplyDeleteLee
Tossing It Out
The Avengers looks mighty fine. I hope they don't spend too much time on showing off the big names though. I hope they have an actual story (gasp!).
ReplyDeleteI haven't read LOST IN AUSTEN but the premise sounds interesting. I'm not a big fan of Julie & Julia either apart from Meryl's performance, but LOVE You've Got Mail!
ReplyDeletesounds interesting :)
ReplyDeletegreat post :
I am looking forward to LOST IN AUSTEN and the AVENGERS looks great!!! I have Thor in my living room, okay dvd. Can't wait to watch it...
ReplyDeleteHope life is treating you well ;D
The Avengers trailer rocks! I like that they're still being kind of secretive about Ruffalo's Hulk. It's going to be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about The Avengers.
ReplyDeleteI've read most of Jane Austen's books, but I have yet to watch the modern day movies based on her writing. I'd like to, though.
Damn, that's some good Avengers goodness.
ReplyDeleteWell, don't shoot me but I LOVED Julie and Julia and I am very interested in Lost in Austen. It probably won't be as good as the series, as shorter versions rarely are, but then again, the series could have used a bit of improvement so I will just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteLooks really cool. I wanna see it. Following your blog!
ReplyDeleteI just can't watch anything with Scarlett Johansson in the same way EVER again...naughty little minx
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't screw up that Jane Austen movie!
ReplyDeleteBut that Avengers movie looks awesome!
@Vics
ReplyDeleteI knew you would be the one to have watched the series :)
@Arlee
actually, Lee, it's yawn for me too :) I don't like superhero films ever since DARK KNIGHT has ruined it for me...
@Lyndy
like you will be able to follow the story with Chris and Chris on the screen :))
@Flixy
ReplyDeleteI wanted to love JULIE AND JULIA soo much, since I adore Meryl, Amy and Julia Child, and the story is amazing, but it just had amateurish, pointless direction which ruined great plot and great actors. A crime against cinema
@Damon
glad you like it
@Ella
ah, for a second I thought you really have Thor in your living room ;)
@Jamie
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that most fans aren't really excited about Ruffalo getting the Hulk role. Most of them prefer Bana or Norton
@Medeia
you will probably like it :)
@Lurk
knew you would like that one :)
@Phylly
I'm sure you will like it, when it gets to cinemas :)
@Justin
ReplyDeletethanks for following my site, I will pop over to yours ASAP
@Scott
what did she do this time? :)
@Clarissa
we shall keep our fingers crossed!
The Avengers trailer looks fun...maybe I'll watch it later...maybe.
ReplyDeleteWhat could be Jack London's deep, dark secret? Can't wait to find out!
ReplyDeletei loved Julie and Julia !!!!!!!! ....and this new one seems to be interesting....thank you so very much for sharing the information with us :).. you have become a great movie guide for me....i feel updated and educated ..thanks ...
ReplyDeleteAvengers! assemble!
ReplyDeleteand with that genious, billionaire, playboy, philanthroper joke RDJ confirms to be best ironman hahaha
AVENGERS!!!! Excellent.
ReplyDeleteI'm an Austen fan, so I can't wait for that one.
Also, best movie line ever. "And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous, green rage monster."
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of Jane Austen. I mean, I just don't get why women across the world worship her books. Can it because that is the first form of chick-lit to have been invented and set the tone for all that followed like I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT or anything starring Katherine Heigl?
ReplyDeleteTHE AVENGERS looks kinda like a Transfomers movie, though with greater charcter development, which isn't to hard a feat to pull off I suppose. Still, being the silly male I am, can't wait to see it. Movies like this to me are like the way expensive handbags are to girls.
Another Marvel movie? Meh...
ReplyDelete@Novia
ReplyDeletewe might give it a try
@Debra
hope it's something delightfully naughty :)
@Flying
be welcome, always here to keep the world informed :)
@Tony
ReplyDeleteI know he has lots of fans, but I can't stand him :) He's the reason I probably won't watch the film
@Josh
you're an Austen fan? I'm a bit shocked right now, Joshy.And yep, boys will love THE AVENGERS
@Pesos
meh indeed :)
Whyfore the surprise?
ReplyDelete@Movieonmymind
ReplyDeleteah, you can imagine how appalled, flabbergasted and shocked I was when after spending my childhood and high school reading Russian, French, German and Serbian novels I came to English literature college where they told me, to my disbelief, that Austen is a classic. I think an angel loses its wings everytime someone says Austen belongs to classics and serious literature. To me, it's not even debatable, it's plain silly. It's like calling Daniela Steel a classic in some 50 years.
@Josh
ReplyDeleteI think I have high standards for you :)) And read the above comment too :)
I would never, in my entire life, put it in the Classic category. Like other things, I think it's the language that draws me to it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't either,but it seems that most people in UK and USA consider her a writer in the rank of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Balzac, Shakespeare ... total craziness :)
