1ST TRAILER FOR MICHELLE YEOH'S "THE LADY"! DJIMON HOUNSOU IS ANGEL OF DEATH IN "PARADISE LOST"! CALEB LANDRY JONES IN "BYZANTIUM". ABC TO MAKE "JEKYLL & HYDE" SHOW

After his bad directorial work on THE BORGIAS (which basically became a nice show after he left its helm), Neil Jordan is going back to his vampires (he did INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE)
and is, as I reported before, preparing a horror tale BYZANTIUM. As you remember Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan will play a mother and a daughter, both vampires who hunt for their victims together, but now they have the male lead: Caleb Landry Jones will play a teenager dying from leukemia whose struggle with mortality affects the mother daughter vampire duo, and in effect, the daughter, trapped forever in the body of a teenager, begins to question her own immortality. You've seen charming Caleb as Banshee this summer in X-MEN:FIRST CLASS.

SHORT HOLLYWOOD HEADLINES
The director of Disney's famous UP, Bob Peterson, is helming a new animated film which will be set in the modern world in which dinosaurs have never actually gone extinct. The untitled film will premiere in 2013. ABC, the channel which will probably have the
best Fall season this year with great new shows is also preparing JEKYLL & HYDE TV series, according to "The Hollywood Reporter". Based on the famous horror tale, it will follow a doctor who begins experiencing bizarre side effects from an experimental eye treatment that greatly alters his personality. When he falls asleep, he becomes the opposite of his anti-social self, a fearless daredevil that can confront anything. A new face to join Bradley Cooper as Lucifer and Benjamin Walker as archangel Michael in huge epic PARADISE LOST is Djimon Hounsou who will play Abdiel, the angel of death.

Today's trailer of the day is the first one for political drama THE LADY in which amazing Michelle Yeoh portrays Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and pro-democracy icon who led the opposition against the Burmese military junta that arrested her in 1989, and spent 15 years of the last 21 years under house arrest.
The film will also depict her personal struggles since she had to choose whether to lead the political battle or to fight her husband's (always amazing David Thewlis) cancer battle. The film, which premieres later this year, is directed by famous French director Luc Besson (THE BIG BLUE, THE FIFTH ELEMENT).

  1. The trailer didn't really show anything but by the short summary, it looks like it will be a great movie. She's a talented actress.

  2. it's kinda a teaser with that scene which leads to her first speech in front of thousands of people. Quite a powerful scene.

  3. Michelle Yeoh as Aung San Suu Kyi pretty much cast itself, but i'm sure she'll be great.

  4. it's true, Edmund, if I decide to watch the film (which is highly unlikely since I don't watch political films) I'd watch it just for Michelle.

  5. If I see it it'll be on DVD because they kids say I get to worked up to see this kind of thing in the theater.

    I don't watch political films either, since they are usually used as propaganda

    @Lyndy
    it really is a tease :)

  7. if dinosaurs still roamed the Earth could I have one as a pet?

  8. I don't usually like the vampire stuff, but I kind of like the story line for Byzantium. I like the idea of a teenager questioning their immortality, and with that actress playing the part it could be believable. :)

    sure, if you don't mind getting a T-Rex ;)

    @Luanne
    they might even bring some deeper issues into the story

  11. The Lady sounds like something my girlfriend would want to watch. I'll consider showing it to her later.

  12. i'm with l.g.- vampires- ugh! enough already!
    BUT byzantium does sound like it could be good!

    and the paradise lost cast sounds quite amazing! i've never actually read that book!

  13. I'm interested in Jekyll and Hyde! The Lady looks like it might be worth checking out~

  15. Byzanitum sounds different!! I never watched the Borgias maybe I was lucky not to see it at all!!

    Hope you are well my friend!!

  16. I believe the story will put more focus on the poignant love story between Aung San Suu Kyi and her late husband. The synopsis itself described the film as an epic love story NOT an epic political drama.
    It also is the story of the peaceful quest of the woman who is at the core of Burma's democracy movement. A devotion and human understanding set against a background of political turmoil which continues today.

  17. @Sylar
    glad you think so!

    @Debra
    Thewlis had a lot of great performances so far!

    @DWei

    I did try reading PARADISE LOST at college, because I had to for an exam, but it was extremely difficult especially for a non native speaker of English. Which is strange since I had no problems with Shakespeare :)

    @Kenneth
    it's the age of remakes :)

    @Ella
    both projects could be interesting if done well!

    it will be a huge film with stunning aerial battles and lots of winged angels :)

    @Scott
    it wasn't a bad show after the sixth episode, but before that it was deadly boring. But it could never reach the quality of THE TUDORS

    @Jaccsy
    I hope it will be as you say, I'd prefer the love drama to the political drama :)

  20. Jekyll & Hyde series? Awesome. But I hope they don't make it too much like The Incredible Hulk.

  21. I think it's possible that in the show the change would be just mental, not physical as well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was thinking more along the lines of the struggle between the Jekyll side and the Hyde side; one trying to keep the other contained. Could become too cliche.

  23. Byzantium sounds like an interesting spin, but I am so sick of vampires! I just don't get this obsession with blood suckers. Let 'em stay buried. However, I've always loved Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and it's been done to death too... but not to the extreme that Dracula has been. And I'm not into political films either. They always have an agenda, and they're not usually ones I agree with. I'll probably watch Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde though.

  24. I also have some vampire fatigue...but this one sounds interesting.

  25. I've been anticipating Byzantium ever since i first heard about it. I think it has a lot of potential, and it seems like it could do something original with the vampire genre.

    And i might see the Lady, as i don't have the same aversion to political dramas that you have

  26. The Lady looks fascinating. Definitely an intriguing story that I want to know more about. The Jekyll show could be good.

  27. Byzantium could be interesting... :) And a good Jekyll/Hyde story might work for me!

  28. There was a time not too long ago Luc Besson would have hired Milla Jovovich to play Aung San Suu Kyi. Thank goodness they got divorced.

    Twixt THE LADY and THE IRON LADY, seems there's a lot of ladies around in the movies this winter. Whaere are the men!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I definitely want to see how a Jekyll & Hyde show turns out. The Lady sounds like an intense, and amazing story.

  30. Another vampire movie?? I guess this trend isn't over yet. Which is okay by me!

  31. @Doralynn
    I totally agree with and share your dislike of vampires... there are too much of those bloodsuckers especially in YA films and books :(((

    @Jessie
    join our club :)

    @Dirty
    it could possibly be a drama instead of the plain old horror

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Mary
    JEKYLL could possibly be a nice little show if done right

    @Donea
    glad you like both projects :)

    @Movies
    he he ... my first impulse was to laugh about your Milla comment and then I kinda got jeepers creepers :) It's sad how some husband use too much of their wives in films

  33. @Chrissy
    glad you like both projects, Chrissy

    @Pieter
    glad you think so :)

    @Kelly
    I wonder when will mutants take over?

  34. Glad to see Michelle Yeoh in a role like this... she's beautiful and strong, just like the lady she's portraying. Thanks for highlighting that Dez.

    ReplyDelete
  35. she really is beautiful and strong and refined, and that's why we love her.

  36. Byzantium looks and sounds amazing, which since I love vampires was bound to be a given. ;) And I am loving Djimon as the Angel of Death. He is a tremendous actor who should work more than he does.

    I will definitely be seeing The Lady. I greatly admire Ang San Suu Kyi and think Michelle will be fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not a huge fan of Djimon since he always seem so full of anger and arrogance in his interviews, but I did notice one thing - he got very old quite suddenly, have you noticed all the grays in his beard? The only thing I like about him is his Calvin Klein photo shoot :P

    I knew you would like THE LADY movie :)
