"XERXES" IS NOW "300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA"! GREAT POSTERS FOR "FRIGHT NIGHT" WITH COLIN FARRELL & TONI COLLETTE! NICOLE KIDMAN & MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY IN "THE PAPERBOY"! JEFF BRIDGES IN SF FILM "THE GIVER"

 According to "Deadline" a highly anticipated prequel to legendary epic 300 previously titled XERXES has changed its name into
300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA. Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel and shot in the same style as 300, the prequel will be set a decade before the original film following the events and battles which actually made Persian ruler Xerxes so powerful. Since Zack Snyder won't be able to take the helm being preoccupied with his MAN OF STEEL Superman film, Warner Bros. is deciding between Noam Murro and Jaume Collet Serra (ORPHAN, HOUSE OF VAX) for the new director. Strange choice I must admit.

It seems that the cast for THE PAPERBOY is getting stellar, after Nicole Kidman has joined Matthew McConaughey and Zac
Efron
. The film will follow two reporters who are investigating the story behind a Death Row prisoner. Nicole will play a mysterious lady who writes letters to Death Row inmates. I personally don't understand the sudden resurrection of Jeff Bridges in Hollywood, but he will star in sf film THE GIVER,  set in a utopian society where all the memories of human history have been erased with a young boy being assigned to be The Giver of his community, which means he has to bear all of his community's past experiences and emotions, in case a time comes when they will be of use.

Check out the first rather gory character posters from the remake of FRIGHT NIGHT which is coming out this September. With
quite a stellar cast the film follows a popular high school kid Charlie (Anthon Yelchin) whose troubles start when a new neighbor (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right, which everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an
unmistakable conclusion: the guy is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself using the help of his girlfriend (Imogen Poots) and of a crazy magician (David Tennant).

  3. I can't do the scary movies. Even those posters are creeping me out.

    I'm looking forward to The Giver. We've been waiting a long time for that movie to get made.

  4. The Paperboy sounds like a good watch. I'm getting really excited for the 300 prequel, although I'd feel more reassured if they settled on a director. Hopefully, the studio doesn't settle on some schlub.

  5. if I got it right, I think it's a mix of horror and a comedy. I don't like horrors either.
    THE GIVER, which is an adaptation of a novel, has quite interesting plot.

    I'm quite surprised with these two directors in the competition, since I've never heard their names before, and one of them is a totally unknown person to me. I thought they would go for someone big, but then again Zack Snyder was an unknown before 300 too :)

  7. Dezzy - Those posters of FRIGHT NIGHT are scary. I don't like scary movies. A big ole fraidy cat, that's me.

  8. I loved the old Fright Night and cannot wait for this new one. I am a sick, twisted individual sometimes. ;) David Tennant looks wicked hot with that shotgun. Rrowr! LOL

    I have not heard of the two candidates for director of the 300 prequel. I hope they choose someone edgy and interesting. Xerxes deserves the very best. ;)

  11. Interesting. Not really my choice in movies but I always like to keep up with what's going on in the entertainment industry and this is the best place to come!

  12. It's not every day that you see a woman wielding an Amazonian Labyris. Nice.

  14. 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA should be good.
    I like the premise of THE GIVER too.

  15. I still have no interest for 300 sequel/prequel no matter what they're calling it.

    Btw, as I won't be able to see Henry at Comic Con, I might queue up to attend the Fright Night panel to see Colin, though I'm not nearly as excited to see him as I am to see Henry :(

  16. Urgh... Those posters for Fright Night remake look really ugly :(

  17. I, too loved the original Fright Night~
    Jeff has the voice and a few recent awards that give him the edge~

  18. Jeff Bridges is a good actor. I can see where he might be a good fit for The Giver role.

  20. Hmm, Xerxes sounds really interesting. I wonder if it's going to have us root for the bad guys this time. Woot! David Tennant as a crazy magician. Hah, this is going to be a collectors item for me.

  21. Using '300' in its name makes me NOT want to see it. I hate it when films have to rely on the success of another film to help the marketing....

    Fright Night looks fun actually and bless Tennant...:-) Coming out after Dr Who was always going to be hard!

  22. Good to see David Tennent getting a movie role.

  23. The original fright night has not dated well so this could be good and 300 the early years is the one for me.

  24. @Shells
    I'm not into scary movies either, Shells, they give me creeps :)

    @Melsy
    didn't know you were into Tennant, Moe :) And yes, 300 prequel deserves someone big and talented, since the original film was such a revolutionary movie in the cinematic history.

    @Dirty
    I sometimes like Nicole (like in MOULIN ROUGE, BIRTH, THE HOURS, DOGVILLE) and sometimes I think she ruins a film (AUSTRALIA), but I'm always willing to watch her work!

  26. @Lyndy
    yes, THE GIVER does have an intriguing plot, and it's a book, by the way, so you might want to read it before the film comes out :)

    @Flixy
    what happened? Henry is not coming? I thought you said you're going to see him. Or is he too busy because he will be seeing me? :PPP

    @Jaccsy
    oh, please, Jaccsonville, they are quite interesting :))

  27. @Ella
    I haven't seen the original but it must be good since I see many people love it :)

    @Lee
    glad you like the news on THE GIVER, Lee!

    @Flying high
    well it hasn't even started shooting, so you will have to wait quite some time for it to appear in cinemas :)

  28. @HiFi
    if I remember correctly, prequel will follow both Xerxes and some Greek general or a soldier, so it will follow two storylines, which means you will have a good guy to cheer for as well :)

    @Custie
    I'm also a bit surprised that they've decided to use 300 in the title. And you Brits really like Tennant, don't you? :)

    @Michael
    You Brits really like Tennant, don't you? :)

    @Lurk
    yep, the prequel is the one for me too, Lurk :)

  29. Very interesting. Not sure about Fright Night -- would depend on my mood.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am curius as to why they are changing the name. I like Xerxes better.

    fright night should be good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm not so sure I'm too happy about a Fright Night remake. It seems like a waste of time and money - they can't remake that 80s classic and make it half as good. But, oddly, seeing those posters I'm interested to see what they've come up with. After all, it's a great story.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hmm...some interesting movies you've got here! I probably won't go see FRIGHT NIGHT, though. If the posters are gory, it doesn't speak well for the movie. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, i forgot to mention i read The Giver in middle school...didn't like it much to be honest

    And the posters for Fright Night i don't find particularly scary, but maybe that's just me

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah for David Tennant being in something kick ass...even if it is a remake.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Actually looking forward to seeing "Fright Night" and seeing what they've done with the update.

  36. @Mary
    yep, it's not a film to take your grandson to :)

    @Budd
    I don't know, maybe they want the fans to see the immediate connection with 300. I like XERXES better too.

    @Dan
    I'm not overly attracted to the film either, but I guess a film with Toni Collette just can't be a bad one :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Emily
    yep, we don't like gory, although we did like 300 and SPARTACUS despite the goriness :)

    @Triper
    it must be

    @Dirty
    I think they were going for humour in the poster not so much for the scariness :)

  38. @Josh
    ah, yes, Josh likes David Tennant and Dr. Who :)

    @Markus
    who knows, maybe it turns out nice!

  43. Fright night seems like it may be awesome
