"DRAGONRIDERS OF PERN" AND "THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES" TO BE MADE INTO FILMS! BRADLEY COOPER IS "THE CROW"? RUFUS SEWELL JOINS "ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER"!

Just few days ago I mentioned that famous classic THE CROW also awaits its remake, and now they already have a possible lead star. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the director of the remake, is apparently in talks with Bradley Cooper to take the role of Eric Draven, a rock star who is murdered along with his girlfriend, the night before their wedding. One year later, a mysterious crow resurrects Draven to seek vengeance on those responsible for his death. As you remember, Brandon Lee, the star of the original film, died during the shooting of the film.

SHORT HEADLINES Rufus Sewell has just joined ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER in which he will play the main villain, the leader of the vampires. *Although Disney has dropped sf epic OBLIVION last week (a film about a lone repair man who is the last man left on desolate Earth) its director Joseph Kosinski (TRON LEGACY) is now in talks with Tom Cruise to take the lead role and produce the film. *Paramount will adapt THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES, Ray Bradbury's sf story about human attempts to colonize Mars. In the story, the resistance of Martians against human invaders leads to a nuclear war. *Young Nico Tortorella, will join Stephen Sommers' ODD THOMAS film adaptation as a local cop
and the member of a satanic cult, in the story which follows Odd Thomas (Anton Yelchin) a young cook from a little town who can talk with the dead.

Now here's a lovely piece of news for all of us dragon loving people :) Bestselling saga DRAGONRIDERS OF PERN by writer Anne McCaffrey, about a group of warriors who use their fire-breathing, telepathic dragons to battle a terrifying airborne threat to the exotic planet of Pern, will be adapted into a huge epic film. Screenwriter David Hayter (X-MEN, WATCHMEN)  has already been hired to write the script. First published back in 1968 this popular fantasy saga has had twenty two novels so far!

  3. Martian Chronicles might be interesting--so the Earthlings use the nuclear weapons? At this point Martians might be hard to believe but who cares?

  4. I'm not sure who started with nuclear weapons, Humans or Martians, but apparently it was pretty nasty :(

  5. Wait - Bradley Cooper as The Crow? I remember that about Brandon...so sad. Hopefully successors don't experience a similar fate.

  12. I son loves dragons, born under the sign, too. It looks fascinating! I am intrigued by Rufus...
    Bradley, needs to go dark to do this one. Hope no issues during shooting...scary!

  13. i remember the Crow, it was one of the best goth movie ever! too bad Brandon had to die, from a gunshot if i remember correctly? would love to catch the new version of it! :)

  14. man, i loved the crow when i was a teenager... i can't remember much of it now, though. slipshod memory! yikes! anyway... it's kind of sad they are remaking it. isn't it? brandon's death almost made the film a sacred thing. it seems wrong for anyone else to play the role... i'm sounding weird now, aren't i?
    anywho-
    i think odd thomas is sounding really good! and i love dragons, have heard of the novels, but never read them. but epic dragon film? YES PLEASE!!!! :)

  15. The Crow was a great film. Loved it. I am not sure that Mr Smooth Cooper would be dark enough for the role. Nothing I have seen him in leads me to this, he always plays the joker, ladies man. Not a troubled rockstar. hmmmm

    Thanks for the News dezzy!

    dragons are always fascinating and Rufus is also always fascinating :)

    @Levian
    yes, he had an accident with a gun :(

    @Vics
    it really is kinda a sacred thing, I would never remake it or star in it myself.

    @Custard
    he does have a trace of something dark in a crazy sense in his eyes, I just hope he can do a serious role without being funny.

  19. I'm super ready as well, Jaccsy, especially if they give me a role of a wise dragonmaster :)

  20. Wow!!! that picture of Bradley Cooper is sooo droolable.
    That Dragonsong looks like a fine fantasy. 22 novels,quite a lot.

  21. I can't believe they are remaking The Crow and with Bradley Cooper? WTH? No for me Brandon will always be Eric Draven and there will never be another.

    On the other hand, anything with dragons get me excited and Anne's series is wonderful. Rufus Sewell is going to be an awesome head vamp. Can't wait to see this film.

  23. @Novroz

    @Melsy
    everybody is against the remake but they are still doing it :(
    We do love us some dragons and some Rufus :)

    @Shells

  25. LOVIN the idea of the Dragon books coming to the movies. About time too is all I can say.

  26. @Clarissa
    'tis true, I wouldn't either!

    @Michael
    it really is about time, after so many decades!

  27. I don't know about Tom Cruise, but I'd love to see the Martian Chronicles. I'm surprised niether that nor Dragon Riders was made into film before.

    ReplyDelete
  28. it seems that our favourite sf genre is finally coming back to big screens along with dragons.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm with Melissa B on both counts. WTH w/ Bradley obsession... he's not the only leading man out there, Hollywood! Sheesh, and yeah, no one can top Brandon Lee.

    As for Rufus, well Dezzy already knows how excited I am. You're right though Dez, I'd rather see a more romantic storyline but I'll take whatever I can get as Roof doesn't get many roles. Btw, are you sad about Zeta-Jones checking into a mental institution?? I had no idea she had bipolar disorder. I hope she gets better soon, I'm excited he's gonna be co-starring w/ Gerry Berry :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I didn't hear that about Zeta? Is it true? How horrible. I must check it out immediately. Poor girl really went through some tough times with Michael's illness.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I forgot to mention it yesterday...There were rumours that Cillian was asked for The Crow...but I guess rumour stays as a rumour :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. he could fit the role but I don't think he should do it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dezzy, here's the latest news on Zeta-Jones' condition: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/04/catherine-zeta-jones-bipolar-disorder-new-movie-justin-bartha-rebound.html Sounds like she'll still be filming 'Playing the Field' which is great news, I'd love to see her in that, but I also wish she'd get better.

  34. I know, Flixy, I read all about it since yesterday. She went through so many bad things with Michael in last few years, and I feel sorry for her suffering. But she did something that makes her such a great and outstanding person - she didn't hide this, she went to the hospital openly wanting to show that having psychological problems isn't something to be ashamed of! I adore her more than ever.

  35. The remake of The Crow is idiotic at best. Nobody can beat out Brandon Lee's performance, and there really isn't a good reason to remake it anyway. The Dragonriders of Pern movie however, is an interesting and exciting idea. I'll be keeping my eyes out for this one.

    ReplyDelete
  36. yep, down with crows, and up with dragons :))

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was scanning through the older news when I saw this!!! They are finally making a Pern movie? I have so dreamed of seeing McCaffrey's dragons on the screen. Her work is what inspired me to become an author. Ooooo, time to do a Google search...

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's been quite an inspiring saga, hasn't it? :) I just hope that they will make it big and epic and not something forgettable.
