GEORGE LUCAS USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO BRING CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD STARS FROM THE DEAD. NEIL BLOMKAMP TO DIRECT NEW SF FLICK "ELYSIUM". DJIMON HOUNSOU WANTS TO BE "BLACK PANTHER"

Since Marvel is planning a number of small budget films with their less popular super heroes, Djimon Hounsou has expressed interest for playing BLACK PANTHER in a movie adaptation. He has already given his voice in the animated series, which has sparked his interest in the character. Black Panther or T'Challa is the super genius warrior king of the African nation Wakanda, the most technologically advanced nation on Earth. Beside having panther-like senses, he is also a trained gymnast and acrobat and is resistant to any magic.

According to "Deadline" it seems that actor Sharlto Copley and director Neill Blomkamp will work again after their success in sf hit DISTRICT 9. Their new collaboration will be another sf film called ELYSIUM. The only known thing about the project, so far,  is that it will take place on a distant planet in the future and, like DISTRICT 9,
will feature social and political themes embedded in a sci-fi action movie setting.

Now this is weird - according to "The Daily Mail" George Lucas has been gathering the film rights to some of cinema's most famous deceased movie stars of Hollywood's golden years and plans to use digital effects to feature them in a film with actors and actresses of today. One of his collaborators, Mel Smith, has accidentally revealed that Lucas "has been buying up the film rights to dead movie stars in the hope of using computer trickery to put them all together in a movie, so you’d have Orson Welles and Barbara Stanwyck appear alongside today’s stars". How strange is that? It's not like going retro worked for his STAR WARS saga :)

  1. I would love to see Djimon Hounsou leading his own superhero movie! He was great in his smaller roles in Gladiator, Constantine, Push, etc. GIVE THIS MAN A SPANDEX COSTUME!

  2. yep, and plus he has a very high dose of natural arrogance about him which would be great for such a role :)
    PS you can see Djimon totally without any suit, if you Google him in Calvin Klein campaign :))

  3. Hounsou would be good as a superhero.
    And very very weird of Lucas mixing old footage with new. Though I guess it worked in Forrest Gump!

  5. I love Djimon Hounsou! He's been so wonderful in the roles I've seen him in.

    I'm not afraid to admit that I hated District 9, and I will absolutely NOT see any more films with that duo.

  6. love the idea of a Black Panther movie and Djimon leading, I know Wesley Snipes was gunning for the role years back, Djimon definately being a better choice.

  7. Dezmond: Something tells me I better wait until I get home, and not to Google "Djimon Calvin Klein" from work... ;)

  11. The George Lucas idea is not that weird. They've been doing it with commercials. And remember the Steve Martin film Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid? I'd like to see some of the old great film classics redigitized and colorized (Oh Blasphemy!)--things like the great old musicals and some of the epic silent films--heck, they could even dub in a talkie track. I'll be anxious to see how Lucas approaches the idea. Hope he doesn't make it silly, although some comedy could be fun.

  14. Oooh, nice photo of Mr. Copley, Dezzy... thanks! I LOVE D-9 so this Blomkamp-Copley reunion is definitely good news to me. Elysium sounds like an intriguing sci-fi. I'm so there!

  15. I've heard of using digital effects to do that; it seems like an interesting concept to me, although I wonder what the actors would have thought about being digitally brought back to life . . .

  16. So Lucas is preparing to destroy yet another movie and many famous icons in the process? Great.

  17. Things like this are possible. We might have actors we don't know are fake, in movies now. I'm not saying we do. Have you seen Lemmeny Snickets? The baby in that movie was fake - cg. Most didn't know it.

    This should be pretty cool.

    @Summer
    I'm not sure what to think about DISTRICT myself. Didn't really like it. But, then again, I never like the films that fanboys like :)

    @Agent Sanders
    ah, yes, Snipes didn't get that one, I wonder why :)))))

    @Kristen
    freaky indeed

    @Flixy
    oh, believe me that was the only normal pic I could find of him, he isn't a photogenic man generally :)

  21. @Eagle
    that was exactly my question - how would the dead people feel about it???

    @Alex
    well, he did it with STAR WARS why not go further with the havoc :)

    @Draven
    yep, I'm also guessing it's totally possible. I'm not concerned with the technical aspect but the ethical one. Welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY by the way :)

  22. There are so many classic movie stars I adore. I'm on a classic movie marathon right now, watching one after another. Even if it's not the real thing, I'd love to see the movie greats digitalized.
