TIM BURTON'S AND JOHNNY DEPP'S "DARK SHADOWS" PROJECT MOVES ON WITH A NEW WRITER
I remember that whenever I've published something on Tim Burton in the past a lot of you mentioned in your comments that you would like him to just quit all his plans and finally start working on his version of "Dark Shadows". Well good news for you: according to "Deadline NY", Tim Burton has hired Seth Grahame Smith to write the script so that they might start shooting the film in January 2011. If you remember, Seth Grahame Smith is the author of the bestselling novel "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" which will be adapted into a film by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and now he will work with Burton again on "Dark Shadows" with a new and unique approach to the material. "Dark Shadows" was cult supernatural TV show from the 60's full of vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies as the main characters. In Tim Burton's adaptation, Johnny Depp is supposed to play the vampire patriarch Barnabas Collins.
I LOVE TIM BURTON!!! But I am getting SICK of Johnny Depp being in EVERYTHING he makes!
ReplyDeleteI have the symptoms of the same sickness, Aspiring X :)
ReplyDeleteNice! Both of these guys are favorites. Don't know how you could ever get sick of them working together.
ReplyDeleteI was in high school when the Dark Shadows show was all the rage. I watched a few times, but I could never get into it. Now's the time for a remake to capture the Twilight crowd. Barnabas Collins was a hot commodity for all the fan mags during the show's run. I'm not really excited about the movie, but I usually like Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.
ReplyDeleteDez, what'd you think of the movie Ed Wood? That would probably be one of the top movies on my list of movies about optimism and positivity.

Tossing It Out
Well, that's just good news on all accounts! Timur's doing the USA version of Black Lightning as well, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. I generally love the work of both, but they are starting to go a bit the way of Ridley Scott and Russel Crowe ... not terribly bad, just a little tired. Will this one have Helena Bonham Carter as well?
ReplyDeleteYEA! But I'll refrain from getting my hopes up too much until the film actually starts shooting, because this really doesn't mean much right now. I guess I better pick back off where I left on the series, Barnabas (the character Depp will play) had just arrived when I took a little break.
ReplyDeleteStill hooked on Mr. Depp, however.
ReplyDelete@Arlee
ReplyDeleteI actually never really watched ED WOOD. I watched CRY BABY, EDWARD SCISSORHAND and other of those early Depp movies but never really got their appeal since they were made more for the American audience with all the social elements, music, settings ... so I never checked ED WOOD. I must do it sometime :)
@Alex
yep, Timur can be seen in all the possible upcoming projects :)
@Matthew
ReplyDeletewell, Matthew, I really wouldn't be surprised if Helena scores at least some supporting role :)
@Answer
yep, you know how things work in Hollywood - it might and might not happen in the end :)
@Robert
he is very popular these days. I like him, but I do think that he plays Jack Sparrow in all of his movies.
As long as Helena isn't Victoria Winters... I'm getting a bit tired of the duo as well, but I'm excited for Dark Shadows.
ReplyDeleteI read that Tim Burton loves working with Johnny Depp because he enjoys watching him make a fool of himself (of course in a good way). I think the two of them together are AWESOME. Bring it on!!!
ReplyDelete@RaShelle
ReplyDeleteyep, that could be one of Burton's main reasons to work with Depp :)
Tim is married to Helena Bonham Carter...highly like, if she wants in. She might be Angelique..
ReplyDeleteI use to race home, from school to watch this...I think I was in 5-6 grade. All of the kids in the neighborhood were watching it. We were hooked. I agree Twilight spin off!
I think Tim and Johnny must have a great friendship! If you notice Adam Sandler hires people he is friends with in his work... So does, Clint Eastwood.
Oh, Ellie, so this show was really really popular back in its days? No wonder that you are all so excited about the possible adaptation for the big screen.
ReplyDeleteConsidering what Tim Burton did for the 'Batman' movies, I'll bet this take on 'Dark Shadows' will be Oscar-worthy! Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteI also liked Burton's BATMAN, unlike these new versions :(
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for anything Tim Burton or Johnny Depp do, especially together.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the news got you excited, PTM ;)
ReplyDeleteAnother Burton-Depp cooperation. With "that" kind of movie/story.
ReplyDeleteIs it really news anymore? :))
I guess it's not :) but I have so many of their fans among my readers, I just have to follow every new update about them :)
