IT'S OFFICIAL: ANDREW GARFIELD IS THE NEW SPIDER-MAN!
OK, people so it's finally official: after the hot speculations in recent few days that the final candidates for the role of Spider-Man in the new reboot were Josh Hutcherson and Jamie Bell, Sony Pictures has officially announced that they've decided to give the role to a relatively unknown young actor Andrew Garfield. According to producers Garfield was chosen because of the rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity in his personality and they were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire viewers and make them laugh, cry, and cheer. As they admitted themselves, the producers were floored by Andrew Garfield's glorious screen test. Although he wasn't noticed by the general audience young Andrew Garfield has played in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", "Lions for Lambs", "The Social Network"... And he is British :) I'm not overly excited, and I think he looks like a younger brother of tennis player Andy Murray, what do you think guys?
Have published the news too. I've seen him in a couple of films and I can certainly say he's very talented, but I haven't seen him playing a character like Peter Parker yet.
ReplyDeleteyep, Jaccsy this is the hottest news item today :) although I must admit the last two weeks have been very poor in interesting updates :((((
ReplyDeleteYep, I also think we will have to see him before judging him, although I can say I don't find his physical appearance charismatic enough for the role.
Not liking this. Spiderman is suppose to be geeky and cute, not Rico Suave. Why can't they just stop experimenting and get someone that actually looks the part.
ReplyDeleteJudging from the physical look, I must agree with you on this one, Diva. And by the way, I'm planning a poll on the best geeky actors in the near future, I think you'll like that one :)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Dezmy he surely will put some muscles for you by the time the camera rolling :P
ReplyDeleteit's not his muscles that need charisma, Jaccsy, but his face :) but as I said, maybe he's charismatic as an actor, I will have to see him perform.
ReplyDeleteI think they should just leave the Spider Mans alone, honestly. But... who am I? I'd probably see it anyway. hahaha.
ReplyDeleteyep, Kristin, they could've just made a movie with some new super hero :)
ReplyDeleteWell this is a shock. I agree, Dez, that he doesn't seem to have the physical attributes (he looks sort of tall and gangly) for the role, but I suppose that's a minor consideration. It surprises me that him and Jamie Bell, both very talented British actors, would be considered as opposed to an American like Josh Hutcherson (who may get tapped to do Cyclops anyway), but I guess that is not unusual these days. After all, it worked fine for Hugh Laurie!
ReplyDeleteHe looks tall for Peter Parker.
ReplyDelete@Tgoette and Alex
ReplyDeleteyep, from a possible movie with Jamie Bell as Spidey and Michael Fassbender as the villain, they went to a flick with Garfield and who knows who as his nemesis.
now that is one cool-looking suit. someday, i'm gonna have a tailored suit for myself. it's a dream...
ReplyDelete:)
I'm a fashion designer, Ed, maybe I could design something dashing for you someday :)
ReplyDeleteOh, wow--so this is the new Spiderman? He looks the part! Tall, gangly, nerdy--while still being movie star attractive when he has to. He says Spiderman to me much more than some of the other candidates being floated about. I think he'll be able to successfully disappear into the character in a way some of the others wouldn't have.
ReplyDeleteHe does not look Peter Parker to me. I don't pay attention to Spider Man after Iron Man.
ReplyDeleteIt might turn into a Superman reboot gone wrong.
ReplyDeleteHe better hide that accent. We might as well cast Hugh Laurie at Spider-man.
@Sammy
ReplyDeleteah, I think you're the first one agreeing with the idea of Garfield playing the role :))
@Ocean Girl
Iron Man has become awfully popular in USA.
@Powdered Toast Man
oh, yes, nobody remembers the Superman reboot anymore, as if it didn't happen at all :)
when i get the money for something hand-stitched, i'll check with you. left to myself, i might end up getting a lining like a spiderman's suit. it's sad that i think that really might be cool:)
ReplyDeletewho knows, Ed, maybe it might :) maybe you look good in super hero tights or spidery pattern unlike Robin Williams :)))
ReplyDeleteIt's curious to cast a Brit for the role of Spidey, but hey that's always all right in my book :) Andrew's also in the Red Riding trilogy that got decent reviews in the UK, I posted the trailer a while ago (http://wp.me/pxXPC-OO) He seems tall for Peter Parker to me, as a few people have mentioned, but who knows. I'm not as keen anymore about this franchise as other comic-book adaptations, but his casting actually intrigued me.
ReplyDeleteNew Spiderman? I liked the old what's his name. I thought he did a good job. What happened?

@Flixy
ReplyDeleteyes, it is quite peculiar, and yes it's also alright in my book :) although I don't like this particular British lad.
@Arlee
they decided to do a reboot and freshen up the franchise.
It will be interesting to see how he does. I'm not too familiar with him.
ReplyDeletehey, Michael, welcome to HOLLYWOOD SPY, hope we will be seeing you here often :) And to admit the truth, I'm not familiar with Garfield at all, I haven't even heard of him before he got this role.
