Sony Pictures TV will make a
miniseries based on
Robert Harris' bestseller "
Pompeii". The project was originally meant for the big screen with Roman Polanski as a director, but it will now become a TV miniseries described as both a love story and a thriller, with the historical, apocalyptic backdrop of a city on the precipice of destruction and characters who are totally relatable to a contemporary audience. "
Pompeii" shall focus on an aqueduct engineer named Marcus Attilius. He finds himself fighting time to keep the military and trade ports on the Naples Bay alive. He doesn't realize that he's also up against one of the deadliest forces of nature.

ReplyDeleteI do, Michael, in last few years we've got a number of good TV series and shows, and 2011, is especially promising when it comes to new TV projects - especially the ones connected with history, fantasy ...

ReplyDeleteIt is amusing because just yesterday one of my clients recently visited Pompeii and we enjoyed a lengthy discussion regarding his visit and the history of Pompeii.

I work in Native American Preservation (I have a degree in history and native studies). Sometimes I oversee digs, help with events, review historical sites, and once in awhile we advise production companies. My uncle is co-owner of a southern production company and he blows work our way.

OMG, that sounds very intriguing. Your job must be very active and interesting. And plus you could get us a role in a movie :)) I could play a nice Native American character, if you give me a long wig :)
ReplyDeleteOopsy daisy, I really did forget Ben, I've just never taken him for a British actor, he seems so American for some reason. Hope you could find enough strength in your wounded heart to forgive me :)) I'm planning a poll with British Gents as well, so maybe you'll find some of your favourite actors of a little bit more mature age on that list.
So far I have not personally been employed to advise any of the movie companies (they leave this for the more experienced members) and sadly the majority of the films have been documentaries. We did take part in We Shall Remain as nonprofit, which was really fun. We do a lot of nonprofit work because education is the key to our culture's survival.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of my family members have played in movies, however only as extras...lol....no famous people in my family. But my little boy MAY be an extra in an upcoming film called Timberwolf. It just depends if he can stand still for 8-10 hours and I seriously doubt he will. I will post if he is accepted.
And yes Dezmond, you would make a fine warrior...

Cool Dez, I'm so excited for this project, I'm always fascinated by Pompeii even before I visited the site a couple of years ago. So is Ridley still headlining this then? Anyway, I'll keep checkin on updates on this one as well as Coriolanus... in fact, I just spotted the news on GB just now, so I'm heading over to that post.
