Michele and Kieran Mulroney who were hired by Warner Bros. to write a "Sherlock Holmes" sequel have mentioned in their interview for "Collider" that Brad Pitt could be playing Professor Moriarty in "Sherlock Holmes 2":
Well, of course, we're gigantic Brad Pitt fans. I think he's a brilliant actor and a particularly brilliant character actor. And certainly the role that you're talking about of Professor Moriarty is a big character to bite off. I hope Brad likes it. Let's leave it at that. To be political, we should say nothing.
So what do you think about this? You know I'm not very interested in the movie since I can't stand Robert Downey Jr, but I know this movie has a lot of fans out there among you.
Oh man! I left Sherlock Holmes wondering about this one. I thought it was brilliant that they never showed Moriarty's face throughout the whole film -- although we did hear his voice. I can definitely see him playing that character, although Pitt typically isn't the villain. But I think he'd definitely bring complexity to Moriarty's character which would be a must, since the first Holmes movie was most certainly that. It will be hard to make a sequel that could live up to the first movie's cleverness, both in plot and characters.

ReplyDeleteYes, Ritchie is supposed to do the sequel before he starts doing his version of EXCALIBUR :) The sequel is scheduled for 2011.
He could do it! And I do enjoy Downey's performances. I can understand people not clicking with him - or any actor for that matter. It's what makes us all unique!

ReplyDeleteI would be absolutely thrilled if this happens. Moriarty definitely needs to be played by someone worthy and it would be very tough for a lesser known actor to pull it off.
