ROLAND EMERICH'S "FOUNDATION" ADAPTATION TO BE SHOT IN 3D

Following James Cameron's smashing box office success director Roland Emmerich has decided that his upcoming Issac Asimov adaptation ”Foundation” will be shot in 3D. Here’s what he said recently: "The “Avatar” technology applies to “Foundation”. It has to be done all CG because I would not know how to shoot this thing in real. Probably now all big movies have to be 3-D. It's not only the effect of 3-D, “Avatar” has just shown that if you do a movie in 3-D, you can ask for more money and that's the trick. I was on the set of “Avatar” and I saw how it worked and I really thought, 'That's the ultimate way of making movies.
"Foundation" is based on Isaac Asimov's "Foundation Trilogy," which centers on a society that has figured out how to predict the future based on a method called psychohistory and sets up a foundation devoted to scientific research to protect itself and ensure its survival.

  9. I'm more interested in a story for this adaptation. I already expected it to be in 3D and with a lot of CGI. No big revelations there. :)
Foundation novel(s) are some of the most famous works of SF literature. In my opinion, more famous because of their author and their "age", then because of their quality. But still very good. I read them a long time ago, so I don't remember all the specifics. What I do remember is that story consists of several short(er) stories/novels set in different time eras, and with different characters. But connected through some underlying story.
It would be difficult to make a movie script out of those stories.
I wouldn't be surprised it they do something similar to Asimov's previous adaptation - I, Robot film (with Will Smith). In that film they just used Asimov's work as basis for their script. They didn't actually adapt any particular story/novel.

  10. I think that's exactly the point - using Asimov's work only as the basis and inspiration, like Rodenbery's STAR TREK.

  11. Well, I've read the novels, of course - and my opinion is similar to Markos - but I rather like it, it certainly has something that makes it unique. Although, it could be term of psychohistory, which itrigues me the most - since I'm a student of psychology and all - and it makes it different than any other SF novel. Although, I must admit that by the end of the series, books were making slight downfall in quality. I don't expect something out of this movie adaptation, since it won't be like Foundation at all, but that's cause I'm a bookworm and fantasy freak, so... :D
