ROMAN EPIC "THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH" STARTS FILMING

The future Roman epic "The Eagle of the Ninth" has officially begun filming today in Hungary. Directed by Kevin MacDonald and starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland it describes the strange disappearance of the glorious 9th legion in the mountains of Scotland. Young centurion (Tatum) is sent from Rome to inspect the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. With the help of his British slave (Bell) he crosses the Hadrian's Wall and goes into the dark highlands of Caledonia to confront it's savage tribes and retrieve the golden eagle of the Ninth, the lost emblem of the missing legion.

  1. Saw that you're a fan of Katharine Hepburn's The Lion in Winter. Kindly head over to my blog and vote for your favourite KH films and performances.

    Thanks.

  2. Not of Katharine Hepburn's but of Patrick Stewart's and Glen Close's :)
But I'll be honoured to check out your blog ;)

  3. I couldn't recognize Tatum on this poster. He looks a little too clean-shaven and serene. Not the image of him I'm used to see nowadays. :)

And these Roman-British movies and stories are becoming increasingly popular in a last couple of years. First King Arthur, followed by Last Legion, and now not one but two upcoming movies.

  4. I must admit that the poster is fake :) and it's not my own handicraft :)) I found it somewhere on Google :)
Although I have a notion that this will not be a big movie (in production and in success) it will surely bring some joy to us lovers of epic movies and historical adventures.

  5. It seems that Roman sub-genre of historical films in Western cinema has now shifted away from Rome itself. We won't see much of Emperor(s) or Senate in these movies.
But it would still be Roman Time/Era, and these films can still be interesting and beautiful to watch.

  6. Yep, I guess we won't, but we've seen all of it in the groundbreaking cult TV show ROME which was predominantly set in the imperial capitol itself.

I think Donald is playing an emperor here, or am I mistaken?
