THE BIBLE CONTINUES, the sequel to their famous THE BIBLE hit series, which is arriving to the small screens this Easter Sunday coming from  executive producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey with the epic story picking up where THE BIBLE left off, exploring the aftermath of events following the Crucifixion.

The series focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest, and the start of a whole new religion that would dramatically reshape the history of the world. Jesus (Juan Pablo Di Pace) dies on the cross at the hands of the Romans, deserted by even his most loyal followers. Another lavish Asian project that you can expect to watch soon is Chinese epic TV series EMPRESSES IN THE PALACE which is the first Chinese series to be broadcast in mainstream paid TV cable network in the US! Netflix will turn its epic 76 episodes into six 90 minutes long English language mini series episodes. With Sun Li playing the lead role and Chen Jian Bin as the emperor, the series follows a young woman born of Eight Banners family who marries the Emperor. After surviving through many murderous scandals and betrayals, she prevails as the most powerful woman in the Emperor's harem, the Empress dowager. In the process, she transforms from a kind-hearted, clever girl to a power hungry, manipulative woman.

I almost forgot to show you the trailer and photos for new historical TV movie THE ARK, but it is still not too late since it airs this Monday evening at BBC One ahead of the Easter celebrations! There was some buzz around the project last week when it was revealed that the Biblical story will not have animals in it because the producers deemed it would make the movie less serious and more childish. Kinda ridiculous, isn't it? Now, here's an unusual pairing: 'The Hollywood Reporter' writes that Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal will take the lead roles in NOCTURNAL ANIMALS, big screen adaptation of Austin Wright's book. Published in 1993 it tells of a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. The book then tracks two stories: the story in the novel, titled NOCTURNAL ANIMALS which tells of a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly; and the story of Susan, who finds herself recalling her first marriage and confronting some dark truths about herself. Tom Ford is directing, with Joaquin Phoenix and Aaron Johnson also being wanted for roles.

'READY PLAYER ONE' SF FILM
Another of the upcoming book adaptations will be Steven Spielberg directed READY PLAYER ONE, based on Ernest Cline's popular sf novel set in 2044 and, as 'Deadline' reports, following the story of a virtual reality game creator who offers up his entire company to the best player who can find an Easter egg in one of his many virtual worlds via a game called OASIS. A teenager named Wade Watts decides to take it on after millions have failed over many years. The key to winning the game is a plethora of pop culture clues from the 1980s. Whomever figures it out and wins the game, without having their avatars killed in the process, takes over the entire OASIS empire.

We're sticking to the world of TV comedy pilots today, people, since it is still a dry period in Hollywood: 'Deadline' reports that Adam Brody will lead untitled new sitcom at CBS coming from MODERN FAMILY producer Dan O'Shannon. The story will revolve around a group of friends and family at three different times in their lives. Adam Brody will play Andrew, a guy who sees the best in everything. Even at 40, when life’s twists and turns have taken a bit of wind out of his sails, it only takes the reappearance of his childhood crush, Holly, to awaken his love of life and belief in happy endings. Tyler Labine and Kelly O’Sullivan have already been cast!

WHOOPIE GOLDBERG IN NEW ABC SITCOM 'DELORES & JERMAINE'
After Ian McKellen, Derek Jacobi, Melanie Griffith, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, another of the acting legends to hit the world of sitcoms is Whoopie Goldberg who will star in ABC's new comedy DELORES & JERMAINE. Jermaine Fowler stars as a millennial with big ideas, but very little drive, who moves in with his estranged grandmother (Goldberg), a strict, football loving, former D.C. cop who needs his youthful enthusiasm in her life as much as he needs her old-school parenting.
MARK ADDY JOINS 'SUPER CLYDE'
Another of CBS's sitcom pilots SUPER CLYDE has added Mark Addy to the cast! Charlie  McDermott plays a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who finds his calling. When Clyde gets a really unexpected windfall, the inheritance from his long-dead eccentric uncle, he decides that his money will be his secret super power, used only for good. Addy will play his careful sidekick and his late uncle's butler!
VANESSA LACHEY IS 'NOT SAFE FOR WORK'
Gorgeous Vanessa Lachey will take the female lead in NBC's sitcom pilot NOT SAFE FOR WORK an office comedy centring on best friends Dale (Michael Cassidy) and Georgie (Christine Woods) whose relationship is upended when he starts dating the “perfect” woman, Drea (Lachey), the perky local morning news anchor who is self conscious about maintaining her image.

Not much to share with you today, people, it is an extremely slow movie news week, but 'Deadline' reports that one of our favourite of TV faces, lovely Christopher Gorham has landed the lead role in PO, a family drama from director John Asher. He will play a recently widowed man who must learn to cope with becoming a single father to his 9-year-old autistic son, PO (Julian Feder). Production will start in April, which is Autism Awareness month. Gorham's five year long gig in COVERT AFFAIRS series has ended this January when the show was cancelled.

Yet, another one in the whole line of upcoming series which will follow Knights Templar is KNIGHTFALL! History will make scripted series produced by Jeremy Renner and as 'Deadline' reports it will chronicle the actual events leading up to and following the persecution, downfall and burning at the stake of the Knights Templar on Friday the 13th, 1307. More than 700 years later, Friday the 13th is known as a cursed day because of this event.

CRUSA- DERS AND TEMPLARS
 I also informed you last summer that Spike TV will produce mini TV series  THE CRUSADERS  set during the Third Crusade, after the fall of Jerusalem to Saladin’s armies, which will follow two very different knights who journey from Scotland to the Holy Land for very different reasons. History has also announced previously their work on KNIGHTS TEMPLAR focusing on their origins. That one will bring the true story of three brothers, all knights, during the first Crusade, as they make the long journey through the Holy Lands to recapture Jerusalem, ultimately bringing rise to the Knights Templar. I'm not sure if that project is still on.

'VERONA' EPIC MOVIE TO

GIVE 'ROMEO AND JULIET' A '300' STYLE REIMAGINATION

Speaking of historical projects, here's one with an unexpected twist: William Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET will get a 300 re-imagining  since Sony Pictures has bought the VERONA script from Neil Widener and Gavin James. With VERONA as the famed town in which the star crossed lovers fell in love with each other and died, the movie re-imagines the love story, set in a world similar to Zack Snyder's stylized action epic 300. The movie will be produced by Joe Roth who is currently working on THE HUNTSMAN and ALICE IN WONDERLAND II! As you might remember the latest ROMEO AND JULIET movie was two years ago and it was dreadfully uninspired even though it had a stunning cast lead by Douglas Bouth, Damien Lewis, Hailee Steinfeld and Tom Wisdom!

Since Hollywood seems to be obsessed with English Medieval times, two new projects set in the period have been announced, joining Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR. Jonathan Liebesman (NINJA TURTLES) will helm MAN AT ARMS working again with producer Basil Iwanyk with whom he did CLASH OF THE TITANS. The story follows Sir Lancelot as an older man who is bent on making amends after his love for Guinevere (and hers for him) ended up destroying Arthur’s Camelot.

Jeremy Lott who worked on the script for the above mentioned MAN AT ARMS is also writing HOOD for Sony, in which Robin Hood story is described as 'Fast and Furious' meets 'Mission: Impossible'! Meanwhile, Lionsgate has entered the Robin Hood race with ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS which is described as an edgier take on the famous hero who takes from the rich and gives to the poor. It is written by Joby Harold who wrote Ritchie's KING ARTHUR. The third project is Disney's NOTTINGHAM AND HOOD, which will be more adventurous and fairy taleish! 

'HOUDINI & DOYLE' TV SHOW

TEAMING UP SHERLOCK'S AUTHOR AND THE FAMOUS ILLUSIONIST

Meanwhile, Fox and British ITV will team up to produce HOUDINI & DOYLE historical series, a supernatural crime drama inspired by the unlikely real-life friendship between Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and illusionist Harry Houdini! In the ten episode series, the two of the great characters of the 20th century, Houdini, master magician, escape artist and paranormal debunker, and Doyle, creator of the world’s greatest detective and a paranormal aficionado, grudgingly join forces to investigate crimes with a supernatural slant. Although they’re both rich, famous and brilliant, they’re the original odd couple, with Houdini believing in nothing, Doyle in everything.

But will it be even more interesting if I tell you they're bringing first female dwarves or dwarvesess :) into the movie? Latest news from Hollywood say that Sheridan Smith and Alexandra Roach along with Rob Brydon have joined the cast and will all play the dwarves. Charlize Theron will reprise her role of evil queen Ravenna, with gorgeous Emily Blunt also joining the cast (as the new villain) alongside Jessica Chastain (As Huntsman's love). THE HUNTSMAN starts hunting April next year!

In today's TV news, Miramax will turn THE BROTHERS GRIMM into fantasy TV series! To be penned by Ehren Kruger who wrote the godawful film of the same name from 2005, the series will follow the swashbuckling adventures of brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, who discover startling mythology and supernatural stakes behind the folklore sweeping 19th century Europe.
ANNA- BELLE WALLIS JOINS 'KING ARTHUR'
Speaking of tales and legends, the latest one to join Guy Ritchie's THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE: KING ARTHUR is Annabelle Wallis (she played queen Jane Seymour in THE TUDORS) who will play Maid Maggie next to Charlie Hunnam's Arthur, Jude Law's  tyrant Vortigern, Eric Bana's Uther and Astrid Berger Frisbey's Guinevere in the new story in which Arthur runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur

Now, here's something exciting I've announced a year or so ago, but now we have the first photos from the sets: you can take a peak at the new French historical TV series VERSAILLES with all its lavish costumes and wigs! French television will air the epic TV spectacle this Autumn but the whole show is being shot in English language with mostly British actors (which the French aren't too happy about, but the idea is to be able to sell the show worldwide)! Similarly to THE TUDORS which depicted the English throne, VERSAILLES will follow the extravagant lives of the crowned heads at the French court! 

GEORGE BLAGDEN IS LOUIS XIV
With delightfully charming VIKINGS star George Blagden leading the cast as the 28 year old French king Louis XIV, the ten episode $30 million worth VERSAILLES series produced by French Canal+ is written by CRIMINAL MINDS producer Simon Mirren. The story of the sweeping historical saga will revolve around the early years of the reign of Louis XIV, the grand and self-proclaimed "Sun King", when he ordered the vast and vastly expensive Palace of Versailles be built to house his court away from Paris and its intrigues in order to centralize the state around himself.

ALEXANDER VLAHOS PLAYS THE GRAND DUKE  OF ORLEANS

Most of the series was shot in the VERSAILLES itself, including its dungeons and the spectacular Hall of Mirrors! Beside George Blagden as the king, charismatic Welsh actor Alexander Vlahos from BBC's MERLIN is portraying his brother and rival Grand Duke Philippe d'Orleans with whom he had a complex relationship! Dominique Blanc plays Anne of Austria. The rich and extremely expensive 17th century costumes are done by French designer Madeleine Fontaine who worked on AMELIE and A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT. Now, I was mostly disappointed with CW's ARROW and THE FLASH series (nice casts, boring, dated stories) but I know that many of you love to watch them, so you might be happy to hear that CW is preparing a spin-off series which will will see a group of heroes battling against a major DC Comics villain. Dominic Purcell, Brandon Routh, Wentworth Miller, Victor Garber and Caity Lotz will reprise their superhero roles from the original series. Dominic Purcell will again take his role as Mick Rory, a pyromaniac who finds an outlet for his obsession with fire when he teams up with Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and becomes the villain known as Heat Wave. Brandon Routh will be The Atom while Victor Garber is Firestorm. It is not sure whether Caity Lotz will reprise her role of Black Canary or some other hero. Two other male and one female characters will also be in the show.

JAMES FLOYD IS WARRIOR PRINCE
Casting continues over at ABC for their new historical series OF KINGS AND PROPHETS! The latest one to join the cast is James Floyd! The biblical drama which follows a battle weary king, a bitter prophet and a resourceful shepherd on a collision course with destiny, will see him play Ish-Boseth, the youngest warrior son of the first king and queen of Israel Saul and Anohim (Ray Winstone and Simone Kessell). I've told you earlier that the series, to be shot in South Africa, will also have Maisie Richardson Sellers playing his sister, young princess Michal, while Oliver Rix will be David, the second king of Israel! Meanwhile, Mohammad Bakri will play Samuel, last of the Biblical judges who hears and speaks for God!

TO AIR LIVE 2ND SEASON EPISODE

Over at NBC, one of their most popular sitcoms, which broke records last summer, is returning tonight with the second season with the announcement that it's penultimate second season episode will air live on May 5th with separate live productions for both coasts! Starring Brent Morin, Chris D'Elia, Rich Glassman, Bianca Kajlich and Bridgit Mendler, UNDATEABLE is a most delightful sitcom about a group of close-knit friends living in Detroit, helping one another figure out their lives.
