success or massive flop when it opens in cinemas May 24th! There are many factors which could possibly influence its fall in theatres: 1. most people are not really thrilled with a hip hop version of famous Genie (Will Smith seems to be the most mediocre choice for this role). 2. they gave lead roles to utterly unknown generic young stars who look like they came out of Hannah Montana or High School Musical. 3. the trailer gives an impression of a very cheap, kitschy movie more suited for Disney Channel than cinemas. 4. they gave the helm of a family adventure  to Guy Ritchie, a director known for bizarrely brutal and violent movies, who

  1. I think this will do okay, they need to focus less on Will Smith and more on the story. The visuals have been spectacular.

    1. Yes, but it seems like the whole focus IS on Will! And why isn't he blue on all the posters, isn't that blackwashing of a Genie? :)

  2. I wouldn't go to see this in the theatres but I might rent it at home if there was nothing else to watch.

  3. I'm definitely going to see this movie, although I'm afraid it will be very bad. But hey I can be wrong!

  4. The only poster I like is the one in the middle, with the flying carpet.

The actor playing Aladdin seems to lack any charisma, so the attention goes to Jasmine, the princess. She looks good and nicely clothed.

This musical fantasy is actually a remake of the 1992 version. I usually find remakes as quite pointless.

    1. That's the Asian one!
I think the whole movie looks too much like a Bollywood film, especially the costumes.

  5. I think it will be a huge letdown, for all the reasons you mentioned. I do have a standing date to see it with my girlfriends though, so even if it sucks, at least I’ll have spent the time with my friends.... so not a complete waste.
