   'THE SCYTHIAN'
 WARRIOR OF THE WILD STEPPE
The Scythian has hit DVD market around Europe
Entertainment from dear old mother Russia, today, spylings, as I have a number of their 2018 fantasy movies to present you with! First up, a rather nasty and dark trailer for THE SCYTHIAN! These are times when one civilization is replacing another. A new era is about to begin in Central Eurasia. Scythians, the proud warriors, are all but gone. The few of their descendants have become ruthless mercenary assassins, the "waves of Ares"! Lutobor is a soldier with a difficult task at hand. He becomes involved in internecine conflicts and sets off on a perilous journey to save his family. His guide is a captive Scythian by the name of Weasel. Lutobor and
The Scythian is also known as The Last Warrior
Weasel are enemies. They pray to different gods but must embark on this journey together. They brave the wild steppes, moving toward the last haven of the Scythians, to what seems to be their inevitable demise.

   'FRONTIER' AKA 'RUBEZH'
A TRIP TO WORLD WAR 2
Equally imaginative story awaits you in a rather interesting mix of reality, fantasy and history. FRONTIER (aka Rubezh)  follows Michael whose perfect

DON'T LEAVE THE CIRCLE
The spy has informed you about  Russian fantasy movie "Gogol: The Beginning'' last year and now here is its sequel GOGOL, VIY. It again follows famous Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, who, at least on film, suffered unpredictable violent epileptic seizures, but during such seizures he would get visions from the dark world. This time, a serial killer has already murdered eleven women around a village, rumours spread by the

villagers claiming the killer is a dark horseman. Gogol is ordered to investigate the murder cases, instead of going there to solve it, he's beginning to suffer macabre visions more and more during his investi- gation, then he suddenly learns the next victim would be his girlfriend, Liza. But he doubts his ability could stop what's going to happen. He then accidentally meets a witch hunter, Khoma Brut, and together they ask witch Ulyana to summon the evil spirit Viy to help them stop the coming murder. Meanwhile, the third part of the movie saga A TERRIBLE VENGEANCE is out in Russian cinemas this August.

  2. I'm not familiar with russian contemporary movies, but the ones of my childhood are unforgettable: best action, best actors, highest authenticity.

I think the russian movies displayed on your post (The Scythian, Frontier, Gogol) won't dissapoint.

    1. The Spy often updates the readers with Russian movies, they've been on the same level with Hollywood or even above in most cases. Their war movies are especially amazing. And their historical series too.

  3. Russian movies always look so good. Almost makes me want to start learning Russian. Almost. I had a hell of a time using my French in Paris. I have a newfound respect for those who come here with English as their second language. I was stressed every time I had to talk to a native, wondering if I was sounding like a complete idiot to them or not.

    1. I learned Russian for about six years, lovely language. I adore their culture and literature. Unlike love for war which is incorporated into the culture of most Western countries, Russian folklore has a deep connection with love towards nature and respect towards mother Earth.

  4. They look intense! We probably won’t get any of them here.
