HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON "FOR GREATER GLORY" HISTORICAL EPIC WITH ANDY GARCIA, PETER O'TOOLE, EVA LONGORIA, CATALINA SANDINO MORENO, OSCAR ISAAC

One of the films I've mentioned a few times before is finally getting its premiere June 1st in American cinemas. In the summer filled with super heroes and dark
action and fantasy movies, FOR GREATER GLORY (originally titled CRISTIADA) is a welcomed change since it brings an epic tale from history teaching us how a fight for a right cause can always be inspiring. With a rather stunning selection of famous actors in the cast which includes eight times Oscar nominee Peter O'Toole, Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria, Bruce Greenwood, Nestor Carbonell,  Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno, Oscar Isaac, Eduardo Verastegui, Santiago Cabrera... the story of this stunning and touching epic drama revolves around the Cristeros War from the 1920's which started after a rebellion over the Mexican government's 1917 attempt to remove the influence of the Catholic Church and secularize the country.
 STORY OF THE GLORY
What price would you pay for freedom? In the exhilarating action epic FOR GREATER GLORY an impassioned group of men and women
each make the decision to risk it all for family, faith and the very future of their country, as the film's adventure unfolds against the long-hidden, true story of the 1920s Cristero War the daring people¹s revolt that rocked 20th Century North America. Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia headlines an acclaimed cast as General Gorostieta, the retired military man who at first thinks he has nothing personal at stake as he and his wife (Golden Globe winner Eva Longoria) watch Mexico fall into a violent civil war. Yet the man who hesitates in joining the cause will soon become the resistance's most inspiring and self-sacrificing leader,
as he begins to see the cost of religious persecution on his countrymen . . . and transforms a rag-tag band of rebels into a heroic force to be reckoned with. The General faces impossible odds against a powerful
and ruthless government. Yet is those he meets on the journey - youthful idealists, feisty renegades and, most of all, one remarkable teenager named Jose - who reveal to him how courage and belief are forged even when justice seems lost.
GLORY TIDBITS
The film is directed by Dean Wright (in his directorial debut, he is known as a visual effects expert who worked on LORD OF THE RINGS
and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA) and the music is composed by the best among the best - Oscar winning composer James Horner (TITANIC, AVATAR)!

  1. So, who's the winner? The Catholics or the government? As far as I'm concerned, they're still together in Mexico.

  5. I'm looking forward to seeing this film, in part because it stars many of my "compatriots", Andy Garcia, Nestor Carbonell, and Oscar Isaac, and the great Peter O'Toole. A part of history I knew nothing about too, always worth knowing more.

  6. I was never a fan of westerns honestly, just not my thing. I didn't even like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

    1. well, this isn't really a western, but I see your point. I don't like cowboy films either, but this is Mexican history.

  8. This looks amazing and such a hugely talented cast. It is a powerful story and not one that gets remembered a lot considering how violent and encompassing it was. I think that's because the world was still recovering from WWI.

  10. The closest movie theatre to seeing this is 5 hours away for me! Not showing this movie at all anywhere in Canada and it is not showing in entire US states. Really a crime that a meaningful movie comes out and so many haven;t even heard of it and/or can;t get to see it near them. Somebody or something does not want people to see this movie.

    1. I think that even getting a distributor for USA was hard for the producers. It's a wonder it even got into US cinemas even though it has an attractive cast :(
