HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON "JACK THE GIANT KILLER" EPIC FANTASY WITH NICHOLAS HOULT, EWAN MCGREGOR, IAN MCSHANE, BILL NIGHY, STANLEY TUCCI

You've probably noticed that the trend of getting famous fairy tales adapted into movies is very dominant currently in Hollywood. We've already seen ALICE IN WONDERLAND, MIRROR MIRROR, RAPUNZEL, HANSEL AND GRETEL are ready to premiere next year, while a number of other projects on SNOW WHITE, CINDERELLA, LITTLE MERMAID are waiting to get into production or to get into cinemas. Definitely one of the more adventurous treats of this kind will be fantasy epic JACK THE GIANT KILLER ready to hit the big screens next year.

 THE GIANT STORY
Based on the famous fairy tale JACK AND THE GIANT BEAN, fantasy movie JACK THE GIANT KILLER tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway
between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life
to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend, and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
THE GIANT CAST
Directed by Bryan Singer with a screenplay by Darren Lemke and Christopher McQuarrie and Dan Studney, the film stars Nicholas Hoult (WARM BODIES, X-MEN FIRST CLASS) in the lead role of young Jack. Eleanor Tomlinson (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, THE
ILLUSIONIST) stars as the brave princess Isabelle who is blasted to the land of the giants when the beanstalk spouts. British superstar Ewan McGregor plays Elmont, the head of the elite royal guard. Ian McShane (THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH, PIRATES OF THE
CARIBBEAN) stars as King Brahmwell, the princess' father, who is none too thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy, while Bill Nighy and John Kassir star as Fallon, the two-headed leader of the giants. Nighy plays the big head and Kassir plays the smaller head.
Stanley Tucci appears in the film as Lord Roderick, an adviser to the king with designs on usurping power. Australian star Daniel Lapaine (MURRIEL'S WEDDING) will play Jack's dad.

THE GIANT TIDBITS
The film was originally supposed to open this June alongside Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS and this year's biggest animated adventure BRAVE, but since that would be too risky and since the first trailer was faced with the bad comments from always shallow and irresponsible
fanboys, Warner Bros. had decided to push the premiere of Bryan Singer's fantasy epic to March 2013. Aaron Johnson was the first choice for the role of Jack, while Juno Temple was supposed to play the princess. Lily Collins also screen tested for the role, but ended up
playing Snow White in another fairy tale MIRROR MIRROR. The film features a number of truly horrid hairdos, from the one on Nicholas Hoult to the one on Eddie Marsan.

  2. I don't see why the fanboys are whining, doesn't look too bad. What exactly are they fanboys off? Never new Jack and the beanstalk had fanboys..haha

It may be the latest trend but hasn't this one been on the cards for like years, even before this trend started?

    1. I meant the movie fanboys, cat, the general ones, those who get turned on by Nolan, Fincher and Tarantino and who love to trash everything else. The forces of evil in the film industry. The ones who never gotten over their puberty.

Yes, this one has been planned for many years before.

    2. haha oh the general ones. Yeah they are pretty pathetic still basking in their teenage angst years. I like some of Nolan's but they aren't as grand as everyone always makes them out to be. Tarantino, I never got the appeal, all of his movies seem to be the same thing over and over again.

    3. I think an angel loses its wings everytime one of the fanboys says Nolan was snubbed at the Oscars. WTH? It would be the same as expecting TWILIGHT to be an Oscar contender.

    4. Sometimes I don't know why the film industry pays attention to the opinion of silly fanboys. I suppose it's money and the idea that those people are the targeted demographic. I rue the day they ever made Twilight. It's spawned so many horrible movies, like The Hunger Games.

    5. Yeah that is why they pay attention, all about the money. For the fanboys are the ones in their mommy's basement with their 50 internet message boards and I love twilight blogs going on and spreading the word on how awful a movie is because it doesn't star their favorite twilight person. So all the bad pr could get around and the studious don't like that.

    6. @Annzie
yep, the Twilight crap brought teens as the main target and as the main public opinion source, which is scary beyond description.

    8. Yeah letting teens decide it pathetic. And I wish they would all get drenched in rotten tomatoes or get food poisoning to keep them away a while..haha but they like their little site.

  6. I was wondering if we were going to have another Pixar film (which IMHO isn't bad at all) but this looks promising too. The cast is chock full of great actors.

    2. Promise not to laugh Dez, but my favorite person in this is Bill Nighy...why you ask? Well...he was in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Pirate Radio. That's my kinda comedy right there!

    3. I've never seen any of those, Elsie, but I do like Nighy's craziness. He was nice in LOVE ACTUALLY especially the ending with his manager :)

  7. As a collector of fairytales (Don't laugh! Yes, laugh!), I'm keeping my fingers crossed they haven't tried their best to completely destroy my book-based memories of this story.

    1. so, which would be your fave fairy tale?

    2. The Little Prince. It tells me all I need to know about us people. The first fairytale to make me blue as a child was The Little Match Girl. Any fairytales you know that I should know about?

      Delete
    3. I'm ashamed to admit that THE LITTLE PRINCE is one of the very few classics I've never read :(
Well, I always preferred Russian and Serbian fairy tales, they are much more fantasy oriented, with lots of magical creatures and such symbols. But it is interesting that most ancient people around the world have their own versions of many of the popular fairy tales, and those are very old versions, which is very intriguing.
THE GOLDEN APPLE AND THE NINE PEACOCKS would probably be my fave Serbian fairy tale which you probably haven't heard of :)

  9. Ewan as a knight on horseback. Oooh 'twould be nice to be the horse I think. I do wish they'd stop getting me excited about films like this and then push them back another year. Doesn't it cost them more in the long run to do this. How can they keep the buzz about a film up for another year?

    1. I like the way you're thinking, sister :) Don't we just love that fancy hairdo on Ewan?
I think they will work on the special effects more, and hopefully they will also release some nice character posters and similar. Warner will probably play some new trailer of the film before playing THE HOBBIT in cinemas.
